Fantasys don't last forever

Eight

“She came back?” Leah questioned.

It was late now. Eventually I had come back from hanging out with Anthony. Sam had left but Leah was still in our room. I tried to seem as normal as possible. I tried to appear as if nothing was wrong with me, but Leah was my best friend. She knew that I was thinking about something without me saying it.

Eventually I caved. I told her about everything that had happened when I went to go get ice cream with him. I told her about Joy, and how she came back. I told her how she was practically throwing herself at him, while I was standing right there. I told her how while she was there it felt as if Anthony had forgotten about me. He was busy talking to her; he almost acted as if I didn’t exist.

I nodded my head but continued to stare at the TV. The movie “John Tucker Must Die” was on the screen. I had seen it about a hundred times but for some reason I was more interested in it today than I was at any of time.

“Well I’m sure it’s nothing. Besides it’s not like they can hang out all the time anyway she doesn’t go to school here and he still has to go to class” she reassured.

Leah made since. We didn’t go on fall break for another week and a half. That means that we still have classes to go to. Since she didn’t go here she was going to have to find someone else to hang out with, rather than Anthony.

Yet I was still unsure about all of this. I still wasn’t completely comfortable with her being back.

“But I still can’t figure out why she’s here” I muttered.

“Neither can I” Leah responded.

It fell silent. The only sound that could be heard in our room was the sound of the TV. Neither Leah nor I spoke about the subject as the movie continued. We hardly spoke at all. There were a few comments exchanged between us every few minutes but other than that it was silent.

The silence became too much for me. I stood up off the bed and grabbed my things for a shower. I figured that I needed to sleep on it. I was probably over analyzing the situation. A shower would help me to relax and sleeping would just be good for me right now.

Leah and I walked into the cafeteria for breakfast. Lately we have been eating and going to breakfast more than we did before. We started off doing it for Sam. We didn’t want her to have to go by herself. We knew that the guys would be there but it wasn’t the same.

Besides we needed to spend as much time with her as possible. In exactly a week and a half, we won’t be able to see her again for a long time. We would still be able to talk to her over the phone and text her but it wasn’t the same as when she was here. Hearing someone say that they were going to do something crazy and seeing someone do something crazy are two different things.

I saw Chris and Sam sitting at our regular table. I furrowed my brows together when I noticed that Anthony wasn’t there but I shrugged it off anyway. He was probably either at the pool or at the weight room.

“Hey” Leah greeted as she sat down next to Chris.

“Hey” he responded before drinking some of his orange juice.

I sat down next to Sam who simply smiled at me. Surprisingly she was only eating waffles and sliced apples today. Normally she would be eating something strange or eating something in bulk. Today, she was eating normally and healthy. Her hormones must not be as crazy as they usually are.

I glanced down at her stomach and smiled. She wasn’t showing yet since she was still only more than a month along but I knew that she would soon. Now that I think about it, she’s almost two months now.

Sam noticed me staring at her stomach. She rolled her eyes and scooted closer to the table. I couldn’t help but laugh at her actions.

“I would rather you talk about it than staring at it. I’m not even showing yet and your eyes are already glued to the thing inside of me” she complained.

Leah gasped and covered her mouth. “She can hear you, you know. You shouldn’t be calling her a thing” she scolded.

Sam rolled her eyes and ate a slice of her apples. “Well what else am I suppose to call it. I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet and I’m not going to call it a shim. And what makes you think that it’s a girl”

Leah playfully glared at her from the other side of the table. “Well it’s better than it” she retorted.

“Okay, okay” Chris spoke. “Can we please not talk about she, him, it while I’m eating. I would rather not think about the mini monster growing inside of the big monster”

Sam picked up an apple slice and threw it at Chris. Chris stuck his tongue out at her and Sam followed suit. Leah and I rolled our eyes in sync. Sometimes these two were both extremely immature, but I loved them anyway

This only made me wonder what Sam’s child was going to be like. Would it be feisty and immature like her? I couldn’t imagine what the child of Sam and John would be like. What made it worse was that I might not be able to see this child when it comes into the world.

Sam glared at me and Leah before eating another apple. Leah playfully stuck her tongue out at her before eating a piece of Chris’ bacon. Chris glared at her before sliding his plate closer to him. He continued to eat his food before he looked at me.

“You seem pretty calm after what happened yesterday” he spoke.

I rolled my eyes knowing exactly what he was talking about. He was talking about Joy. Then again I already knew that he knew she had come back. He had known about her before I did. Not only that but he was Anthony’s roommate. It would surprise me if he didn’t know what was going on.

I rested my head on my right hand. I sighed and started tapping my fingers on the table. “Why wouldn’t I be?” I questioned. I knew that he didn’t believe that I believed what I was saying. How could I, my boyfriends ex-girlfriend was here and I don’t know why. From what I heard yesterday, he doesn’t know why she’s here either.

Chris didn’t bother to saying anything after that. He knew that I didn’t want to talk about it, and I was glad that he did.

Sam on the other hand, was being her usual stubborn self. She looked back and forth between me and Chris. After the fifth time, she spoke up. “Okay what happened yesterday?”

“Sam, it doesn’t matter” I explained. Even I knew that Sam wasn’t going to stop just because I said that it doesn’t matter.

Sam then looked over at Leah. “I know that you know what happened, so can you just give me a summary of what happened or the main idea”

Leah shrugged her shoulders. “Joy came back” she plainly stated.

Sam gasped once the words left her mouth. Chris scoffed and I rolled my eyes. She’s such a drama queen sometimes. “I can’t believe it, she came back that little….wait….who’s Joy?” she questioned.

We all couldn’t help but laugh at Sam. It actually made me feel better about the situation. This is why Sam was my best friend. She was real, funny and knew how to make me feel better without even realizing it.

The laughter died down after a few minutes. Sam was still confused about what was so funny. Sometimes she could be such a stereotypical blonde.

“Joy is Anthony’s ex-girlfriend” I finally explained.

This time Sam reacted the way that she wanted to the first time. Her face showed that she couldn’t believe what she was hearing and not in the shocked kind of way either. She looked at all of us for confirmation. We all nodded our heads to show her that we were serious.

“What the h—”

“Think of the young one” Leah interrupted.

Sam glared and ran her tongue over her teeth. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Who the heck does she think she is showing up like this? An ex is an ex for a reason” she spoke.

“Doesn’t she know that he’s clearly moved on?” she said while pointing at me.

“Sam just drop it” I said.

“But—”

“Please” I interrupted.

Sam rolled her eyes and put another apple slice in her mouth. She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms over her chest. I nodded my head an uttered a small thanks. I didn’t want to think about her. She was nothing more than another person to me. That’s all she’ll ever be. I’m not going to treat her any different than I treat anyone else.On second thought, maybe I should treat her like I treat London, since there friends and all.

“Hey where’s Anthony anyway?” I asked Chris.

Chris looked up at me with a pancake hanging from his mouth. I smiled and shook my head. Sam simply rolled her eyes, while Leah smacked him on his arm. The pancake fell out of his mouth and he continued chewing.

He sat up and cleared his throat. “He went to the weight room”

I couldn’t help the smile that made its way across my face. I knew he would be in the weight room. I hate to say that I know him well but I guess I do.

My smile quickly fell though once I realized what was going on. He was at the weight room. This meant that he was stressed. He always worked out whenever he was stressed or if he had something on his mind.

I stood up from the table deciding that I should go see what’s wrong. I didn’t want anything to be bothering him. I wanted to see if there was anything that I could do to help him.

“I’ll be back” I said as I walked away. I started walking towards the door when I heard someone speak up from behind me.

“Give him a big wet one for me!” Sam called.

My mouth fell open but I quickly closed it. I rolled my eyes and continued walking. Sometimes she was a bit too much. Sometimes they all were.

But I love them anyway.
