Not Your Angel

The Song.

The three Frans’ sat down in the living room. It looked like Robert’s smile was permanent; he was beaming with happiness over having his son back home. Milan was more vary, but she held onto Amari’s hand tightly.
“Why did you come?” Milan asked him – for all she knew he had decided to find them again.
Amari narrowed his eyes at her but his lips still held the playful smile that seemed to be his new trademark, it was better than the angry frown he used to have before. “Well, I thought you could explain that to me. You see, I was heading towards New York when I suddenly changed course and headed north-west. I had no idea where I was going until I got here and saw you in the stairs.”

Milan couldn’t help but giggle a bit, Robert was surprised by the sound because ever since she made Amari leave she had been a little depressed but she seemed like her old self now when he was near her.
“Dad made me use the ‘twin telepathy’,” she used air-quotes to show how little she put in it.
“Hah, so you finally believe it now?” Amari had always meant the twin telepathy was real ever since he discovered it at age nine when he got his foot trapped in a bear trap and called for Milan in his head.
Milan smiled sheepishly, “Not yet.”
He rolled his eyes at her.

“How have you been Ami? What have you been doing?” Robert asked and changed the subject quickly before they stared bickering.
Amari shrugged. “Roaming the country; I was starting to get tired of it so I would have found you even if Milly hadn’t called for me.”
Robert smiled. “You are welcome to stay for as long as you want.”
“Thank you dad,” Amari said and started to say something more but suddenly Milan started pacing in front of them.

“What is it Milly?” Amari asked her and stood up to stop her.
Milan looked up at him with sad eyes. “I have to ask you Amari before you move back in; have you changed? I am sorry but I can’t let you stay if you haven’t”
“Milly, look at me,” he said and held her face between his hands. “Look at me and tell me if I look the same as I did when I left.”
“You don’t, but I won’t walk around on needles being afraid you will snap,” she told him sincerely.
“I have changed Milly, for you. You have no idea how much I have missed my sister,” He said and hugged her closely.
Robert got tears in his eyes because of them, and Milly would be crying if she had been capable of that.
“I think I’ll go to bed so you two can catch up,” Robert put his hands on their shoulders and gave them loving smiles.
“Good night dad,” They said at the same time and grinned at each other.
Robert was chuckling as he walked up to his bedroom.

The two twins sat back down on the couch.
“Why did you call on me anyway?” Amari asked.
Milan shrugged. “Aren’t I allowed to miss my brother?”
He raised his eyebrow at her and she sighed.
“A coven of vampires moved to town and dad meant that we needed more protection and that I would be stronger with you by my side.”
Amari closed his eyes and took deep breaths. Milan got suspicious that he still had anger issues.

“How many?” he wanted to know.
“There are four of them at school but I suspect that there are more off them, even a shape-shifter is with them,” Milan told him.
“Then it’s settled, I’m going to school with you,” Amari said with a serious look on his face.
“What? Amari, no. They won’t harm me at school when there are so many witnesses. You have to stay here and look after dad,” Milan ordered.
He shook his head. “Nope, not happening sis.”
Milan sighed heavily.

“Besides, I never actually graduated high school,” he said and yawned.
Amari had to drop his senior year because that was when his temper got out of control.
“How long is it since you last slept?” Milan asked after noticing he yawned, she never did.
“About two weeks.”
“You can borrow my bed,” she smiled knowing she could go a night without sleep.
“Okay, but one condition, we find something funny to do tomorrow. I’m guessing dad just sit in his office and write,” Amari got easily bored.
“We can hang in Montpelier. Maybe catch a movie and I can show you where the school lies,” Milan preferred to be out in the woods but she might as well show him around.

“It’s a date. Now good night,” Amari said and headed up stairs.
“You don’t know which room is mine,” Milan said and started to follow after him.
Amari held his hand up to stop her. “I came a few minutes before you did earlier and explored the house. You’re room looks just the same even if it is a different house; messy and untidy.”

Milan smiled and said good night before she found her book bag and did her homework and then she found her note book and started writing lyrics for a new song. She worked on it the whole night, it was the first time in years she had written a text she was pleased with.

Milan was a talented musician; she played the piano and the guitar and she could play drums as well but Robert sold her drum set when she saw fifteen because she played on it none stop. She sang as well, but mostly to herself but Robert as well. She remembered holding concerts for him and Stina when she was younger, Milan would sing and Amari play an instrument. Music was one of the many things they had in common.

She sang the song in her head until sunrise when she went to make her father breakfast, she always did on Saturdays. She put it on his nightstand and left him a note telling him she would be out with Amari the whole day.

Amari was up, thankfully, because he was exactly like Milan, impossible to wake when he slept.
“So where’s your car?”Amari asked when they headed outside.
“I don’t have a car, I walk,” Milan said and walked a head off him.
He caught up with her quickly. “Are you kidding me? Everybody have to have a sweet ride.”
Milan laughed and linked her arm with his. “Don’t worry Ami, it’s only twenty-five minutes of walking, but if we get in the woods we’ll make it in five.”

Amari grinned as Milan pulled him into the woods and took off like a bullet – in her high heeled boots – and he raced her. Amari was the strongest out of the two but Milan was the fastest, without doubt. She led the way and soon enough the forest thinned out and Milan slowed to a jog as she walked out on a road again. Sun hit their faces and they smiled at each other when they saw the glow radiate from their skin; it didn’t make humans stare more than they did already did. The sun made Milan and Amari look like healthy teenagers with a beautiful skin.

Milan found a record store she used to visit. Amari loved it and they spent hours there discussing the music, and ended up buying five CD’s each because they couldn’t agree on what was better; Bombay Bicycle Club or Two Door Cinema Club. Milan liked Bombay Bicycle Club and Amari the other, but they sounded almost the same.

“How are things going with your music?” Amari asked when they left the shop.
Milan walked in the direction of the high school. “I wrote a new song last night.”
“What is the title?” Amari was fascinated by his sister’s voice, it sounded like an angel. Pure.
“’Lift Me Up’. You gave me my inspiration back.”
“Sing it to me,” he commanded.
“No,” Milan said.
“Yes,” Amari argued but couldn’t help but smile, he had missed their constant bickering.
“No, forget it,” Milan crossed her arms over her chest and walked faster.
“C’mon,” He batted his eyelashes at her and made her burst out in laughter.
“When we get home,” She said and stopped. “This is the school.”
“Cool. Let’s go home,” Amari pulled her arm, he wanted to go home and hear her sing.

Milan rolled her eyes. "I really haven't missed your impatience," she said and turned away from the school.
He smiled and followed after her but stopped dead in his tracks when he spotted a shop taken out of his heaven. "Why didn't you tell me about this?" he asked her and crossed the way without waiting for the cars to pass; he almost caused a accident. "This is perfect, exactly what we need."
"Ami, be real," Milan said and gave the car he was stroking so lovingly a disbelieving look.
"I'm real, just as real as this sexy thing," it was his dream car. Amari was a man who enjoyed life at its tops. "I have to have this."

Milan got dragged inside the big car business. Amari went straight to the counter where a smiling man stood behind a computer.
"How much for the Ferrari 458 Italia?" Amari asked and stared the car dealer straight in the eyes.
The man's mouth fell open but being a professional he closed it quickly. "I think it's a little out of your league, young man," he said politely.
"How much for the car?" Amari asked again, his voice a little more threatening as he placed a black amex card on the desk.
It looked like the man's eyes would pop out of his head and Milan was about to drag Amari out of the place when the man spoke.

"I'm sorry. My name is Darryl Rogers, let's take a look at the car," Darryl had worked with selling cars for twenty years, never had he managed to do a sale with such an expensive car.
"That won't be necessary, I had one just like that one a few months ago," Amari said and held up his card.
Milan stared at her brother weirdly. Where the hell did he get so much money from.
"Very well then, Mr.?"
"Amari Frans."

"I can't believe you just bought an Ferrari!" Milan exclaimed as they raced down the roads in the jet black sleek car.
"We are special Milly, that's why we have to ride in style," He said increased the speed.
Milly wasn't scared, even if they drove off a cliff she would survive. "Where the hell did you get the money anyway?"
"I haven't just been loafing around, I bought some stocks and it turns out I'm rich," Amari grinned.

"But a Ferrari? It drags a lot of attention," She frowned.
"Chill sister, you know I love attention."
I was afraid so... she thought and stared out of the black tinted window.

They rode in silence until Amari pulled the car to a stop in the driveway. he got out and walked next to Milan inside. Robert was in his office writing. Amari sat down on the piano stool and patted the space next to him.
"Come on, Milly, sing for me," he smiled at her.
She smiled back and sat down next to him. She didn't need the lyrics or the notes she had written the night before; she had it all memorized.

"This road is anything but simple
Twisted like a riddle I've seen high and I've seen low
So loud, the voices of all my doubts
Telling me to give up, to pack up and leave town

Even so, I had to believe
Impossible means nothing to me,

So can you lift me up,
Turn the ashes into flames
Cause I have overcome
More than words will ever say
And I've been given hope
That there's a light on up the hall
And that a day will come
When the fight is won
And I think that day has just begun"
