You Still Have All My Heart

Big Girl

“So, what did you want to tell me?” Cassandra asked Jason.

“Oh, right, I just wanted to tell you that I’m having a party tomorrow night and I wanted to invite you and Jordan,” he told her with a smile.

“I’ll tell her about it and see if she wants to go,” she told him.

“Cool and if she doesn’t want to go could I still have the chance of seeing you there?” he asked her awkwardly.

“Maybe, depends on if I’m feeling up to it,” she replied.

“Well, fingers crossed that you’ll feel up to it,” Jason told her while crossing his fingers.

“Is that all you wanted to tell me?” Cass asked him.

“Yeah,” Jason told her, “you go and tell Jordan and just text me if you can go.”

“Kay, bye,” Cassandra told him and walked over to where Jordan was lacing up her skates.

“So, what did he want to talk to you about?” she asked her friend.

“Oh, he’s having a party tomorrow night and invited us,” Cass informed her.

“Do you want to go?” Jordan asked her.

“Well, parties are always fun right? Do you having something important to do tomorrow?” Cassandra asked her friend.

“I actually don’t. Tomorrow’s my day off,” Jordan told her.

“Wanna go shopping for an outfit to wear at the party?” Cass asked.

“Sure,” Jordan said. “But you should tell Zack about the party,” she told her friend seriously.

“I’ll tell him after we’re done ice skating,” Cassandra sad with a smile.

“I’ll tell Alex then too,” Jordan said.

They finished lacing up their skates and helped each other onto the ice. They had a great time just skating and talking. They weren’t the best skaters so falling was inevitable but when they did come in contact with the ice they always laughed it off and even pulled the other down with them.

After skating for an hour or so Cassandra’s feet were starting to hurt. She hobbled her way to a bench and started to take her skates off. She wanted to make sure that she didn’t have any blisters on her feet. Jordan followed her out of the rink and sat down with her. She just watched as her friend took off her skates rubbed her feet. Cassandra hissed in pain as her fingers touched the side of her foot. She took off her socks and sucked in a breath when she saw a bright red blister on her foot, it had even started to bleed a little. She lightly put her foot down and decided to check her other foot. Thankfully, it didn’t have an blisters on it.

"It doesn't look that bad," Jordan told Cassandra.

"It hurts like a bitch though," Cassandra told her friend.

"You're not going to start crying, are you?" Jordan asked her friend.

"No, I'm a big girl!" Cassandra joked.

“So, you're done skating?” Jordan asked her friend.

“Yeah,” she replied, “I don’t want to make this any worse.” She pointed towards her foot.

“Understandable,” Jordan said with a smile. She started to take off her skates as well.

“You don’t need to stop skating,” Cassandra told her friend when she realized what she was doing.

“It won’t be any fun without you,” Jordan told her friend with a smile. “I’ll go and ask for a couple of band-aids,” she said. She got up and walked up to the counter. She came back a minute later and handed Cassandra the band-aids.

“Thanks,” Cassandra told her friend while taking the band-aids from her. She put them on her foot and made sure her flip fops didn’t rub against the blister. When she saw that it didn’t, she asked Jordan if she was ready to go.

“Yeah,” she said standing up. They waved to Jason and then walked out of the building.
They got into the car and were about halfway home when Cassandra’s phone started to ring.

“Could you pick it up for me?” Cassandra asked Jordan since she was driving. Jordan looked at the phone and saw it was Mr. Knowles and clicked the talk button and put it on speakerphone.

“Hello?” Cassandra said loud enough so that it would reach the phone.

“Honey?” her father asked through the phone.

“Yeah, dad?” Cassandra asked her dad, “what do you need?”

“I’m swamped in work right now and I was wondering if you could drive your sister to a birthday party in a couple of minutes,” he told her.

“Yeah, it’s fine. Where is it?” she asked her dad.

“It’s at the ice skating rink on Hillen Road. You know where it is right?” he asked her.

Cassandra laughed a little bit, “yeah I know where it is.” Jordan also started giggling a little bit.

Apparently they weren’t too successful hiding their giggles because then her dad asked her, “what’s so funny?”

“Nothing dad, it’s just that Jordan and I are just coming back from there,” she explained.

“Oh, well isn’t that a coincidence. Is Jordan with you?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Cassandra said.

“Hi Mr. Knowels,” Jordan said so that Cassandra’s dad knew she was there.

“Jordan, what have I told you these past seven years? Call me Viktor,” he told her.

“Yeah, sorry. I keep on forgetting,” Jordan told him.

“It’s fine. Just try and remember for next time? We’ve known each other for almost eight years now and that is far too long for you to call me Mr. Knowles. You’re like my third daughter,” he told her while laughing a little at the end.

“Aww, thanks,” Jordan said smiling.

“Well, I gotta go. Thank you so much Cass. Have fun girls,” he said into the phone and then hung up.

“So, ready to go ice skating again?” Cassandra asked Jordan.

“Sure,” Jordan told her friend. “Isn’t your sister old enough to stay at a party alone?” she asked.

“Well, she nine right now so maybe? I’ll ask her when we pick her up,” Cassandra told her friend. She drove to her old house and knocked on the door. An older lady answered the door.

“Hi Mrs. Hughes, I’m here to take Kelsey to her party,” Cassandra told her.

“Of course, come in,” she told Cassandra and her friend. When they walked in Mrs. Hughes called for Kelsey to come down the stairs. “She kept on talking about how excited she was for this party,” the woman told them with a big smile.

“Cassie!!” they heard at the top of the staircase. Cassandra looked up and saw her little sister clutching a present to her chest.

“Hey Kels,” Cass told her sister with a big smile. The little girl ran down the stairs and hugged her sister.

“What are you doing here?” she asked her big sister.

“I’m here to take you to your party,” Cassandra explained.

“Yay!” the girl exclaimed.

“So, are you ready to go?” Cassandra asked her. Kelsey nodded her head vigorously.

“Awesome, let’s go,” she said.

“Kay,” the little girl said happily. “Hi Jordan!” she exclaimed when she saw the other girl.

“Hey, Kelsey, how’re you doing?” Jordan asked.

“Goooood,” the girl said while giggling.

“You can go now if you want,” Cassandra said to Mrs. Hughes.

“Oh, really? Thanks,” she said. She then crouched down so she was Kelsey’s height. “It was pleasure playing with you today Kelsey,” she told the little girl.

“Yeah, come again soon!” Kelsey told her.

“I will,” she told her. She stood back up and said goodbye to the girls and left.

“So, are we ready to go?” Cassandra asked once again.

“Yup!” Kelsey yelled.

The three of them walked out the door and went into the car. Once they were all buckled up Cassandra asked, “Do you want me to stay with you or can you be there by yourself?”

“I’m a big girl! I can be there by myself,” Kelsey told her.

“Really? Okay, then I’m going to leave. I’ll give one of the moms my number so in case you need me you can call me,” Cassandra told her sister.

“Okay,” Kelsey said with a smile.

They arrived to the rink and walked in. They walked over to where all of the balloons were and Cassandra talked to the birthday girl’s mom while Kelsey talked with her friends.

“So, I’m going to leave her here it it’s not too much trouble. Here’s my number in case you need anything,” she told the mom.

“That’s fine, wait what’s your name again?” she asked.

“Cassandra Knowles,” she replied.

“Kelsey’s sister okay, thanks. I’ll see you again at 8, Cassandra,” she said with a smile.

“Thanks again,” Cassandra told her. She said bye to Kelsey and she and Jordan were on their way out. They got back into the car and Jordan asked her where she wanted to go.

“What about your apartment?” Cassandra suggested.

“Sure,” Jordan said and they were off.
