Amor Vicissitudine

Octo.

“So, Sicily, what do you do, exactly?” I inquired to her profession and she chuckled, sipping at her water,

“I’m a dancer. I work for the San Diego ballet.” Ooh that explains those gorgeous legs, “I also help Jaime with his music. If he ever needs a female voice I try my best to make the lines sound pretty.” Aw she sang too? So multi talented and so crazily beautiful.

No. I can’t get attached to her. Tony you remember what happened last time you got close to a girl, you can’t let that happen again,

“So Tony, what pulled you into music?” She rested her elbows on the table and let her left hand droop, lazily in the crook of her right arm. Her right hand was supporting her head as it rested in her palm.

I seriously have to stop noticing these little things,

“When my dad died I really had nowhere else to go so I just started listening to different types of music and it kind of sucked me up.” I made a hand motion like my hands were picking something up that was very goo-like, “I fell into guitar and I’ve loved it ever since. Tried drums once but you know, keeping a steady beat with those things is hard-“

“Don’t I know it.” She interrupted me with what sounded like a grumble, covering her mouth with her hand,

“Does someone play drums too?” I chuckled and she shook her head, just kind of baffled that I heard her,

“What?” You know what silly little Mexican girl, “Oh, yeah. I mess around with them when I can but you know, Jaime doesn’t have a kit handy so I can’t play as much as I’d like to.” She just kept getting better and better.

NO. Tony STOP. Don’t get attached to this girl!

“So, you got a favorite band?” Small talk. Yeah, maybe I can get to know her without getting too overly ooey gooey over how perfect she was,

“I’m not really sure. I listen to a lot of music but you know, I like what I can afford so Jaime’s old Thrice CD’s are overriding my room right now.” Sicily likes Thrice? Oh my God,

“No way. That weirdo got me into them too.” I chuckled and Sicily laughed at the statement.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. Ugh I don’t want to answer the phone. It buzzed again, harder this time,

“You gonna get that?” I rolled my eyes and nodded,

“Ugh, if I have to.” I laughed and got out of my chair, walking outside, “Hello?”

“Hey, fucktard.” Nooooooooooooooooo… My mind seemed to drag the word on forever.

Jaime was calling me. That was his usual greeting toward me when he called me,

“What do you want, moron?” I sighed and he just laughed at me,

“You better be treating my sister to a nice dinner.” Oh my God he’s stalking me,

“How did you know?”

“I passed Chipotle and saw you two in the window. Good choice my friend. You just better not screw Ci over. You do and you are dead meat. You hear? And I’m not even joking.” Oh my God he was so scary. I’d never seen him get this mean about anyone,

“I’ll try not to. And Jaime?”

“What.”

“She might be one lucky little ballerina.” I laughed,

“Tony, you screw her tonight you will get a nice hard slap tomorrow at the studio.” Well, looks like I’m gonna get smacked,

“I can deal with that.” I shrugged and kicked some dirt off of my sneakers, only making matters worse, “Well I gotta go. Sicily’s waiting for me inside.”

“Okay, have fun eating you two!” I hung up the phone and slipped it in my pocket before walking back into the restaurant,

“Who was that?” Sicily had taken a bite of her burrito and was now talking through a mouthful of food,

“Your ridiculous big brother.” I chuckled and Sicily nodded, setting her burrito down on the plate,

“Geez, was he stalking us? He does that all the time.” I nodded,

“Hey, you wanna head back to my place? I think a good way to end tonight would be a nice movie, in my newly cleaned apartment.” I smiled and Sicily laughed,

“Sure.” She stood up, grabbing her purse before turning around to me, “Am I driving? I didn’t see your pretty little car anywhere.” I nodded,

“If you don’t mind me tossing my bike in you car-“

“Truck.” Oh. Well that’s interesting,

“Then I don’t think you’ll mind if I toss my bike in the back then?” She shook her head, “Then let’s go.” I stood from the chair I was sitting in and walked with her out to where I’d had my bike locked up. I grabbed it from the rack and walked over to an old Chevy truck.

As Sicily started up the truck I tossed my bike in the back and walked around to the passenger’s side, slipping into the worn leather seat and getting as comfortable as possible.

The sun had yet to even start to go down so all of North Park was illuminated by it’s hot glow. Not that I was really complaining, San Diego was so beautiful by daylight,

“Okay, where am I going?” I gave her directions as we went through the streets, eventually having her pull up in front of my apartment.

Movie night plus sex equals one happy little Tony.
