Walking Backwards

VIII

“How dare you,” I raised my thin finger in an accusing manner as my voice becomes angry and shrill. “I can’t believe you would do that!” I did the best I could to pull a hurt look over my face.

“Huh…” Edward looked up at me shocked and confused. He looked around to see that the rest of the student body was just as confused as he was, if not more.

“Well, what is her name? I mean c’mon you must know that much.” I heard some people gasp. I was tapping my foot impatiently on the tiled floor. Some people were whispering about how they had been right, we had been dating the whole time. “Don’t give me that look; I know you’ve been cheating on me,” I grinded my teeth together and folded my arms over my chest, as if I were upset.

“W-What are you talking about Jacey, we… we aren’t even dating.” Edward was now standing up, his palms placed firmly on the table.

“What… you are denying everything we did that night…” I scratched my shoulder while looking away feigning to be embarrassed and hurt at the same time.

“W-What…” Edward’s mouth hung open as more people were turning in their seats to get a good look at us, at the drama that I was creating.

“Are you saying that you don’t remember the night we shared… hot… and sticky… it was so sweet—the best I had…”I licked at my lips as I looked Edward straight in the eyes. He was looking dumbstruck, unable to reply. “When… you—you don’t remember you said it was good for you too and… you were so quick to grab… and none of that meant anything to you?” I wanted to laugh; I wanted to take a picture of this so I could remember this moment for the rest of my life.

“Jacey Jewlz Payne what in the world are you talking about—I don’t know what—are you sick or something?” Edward’s eyes were bulging wide with shock. Girls were giggling while guys were giving each other high fives and yelling things like way to go Edward. I even had the attention of Edward’s family.

“I am definitely not sick, just because you can’t remember the night we had hot chocolate chip cookies does not mean that I had forgotten, you should be ashamed of yourself Edward Cullen.” Before sitting down I saw Alice smiling, Emmet had to turn his head to keep from laughing as well as Jasper. I sat down, smirking up at Edward.

I ate one of my chips while Edward stood there, a palm on his face as he shook his head back and forth. The rest of the guys were groaning to themselves that I had been talking about cookies instead of what they were thinking. I can’t help it that everyone was so damn perverted.

“I don’t get you sometimes…” He sighed as he sat back down.

“Hmm…” I said playfully as I licked some cheese from one of my chips. I still felt like laughing, I would remember this forever. The look of embarrassment on Edward’s face was just too much.

“You even had me going,” he admitted as he laughed softly.

“Aha, I told you I would get revenge.” I smirked as I pointed a chip at him. He just smiled and shook his head.

“Yeah, you did. But uh, where did you even come up with that?” He sat his face in his hand while staring at me.

“Oh yeah, in middle school I went around saying that I was having hot lesbian sex.” I paused as he raised a thin eyebrow. “I would wait until people got the wrong assumption and start to think about lesbian sex for a moment or so, and then I would tell them by hot lesbian sex I obviously meant cookies.” I munched on some more of my nachos.

“So… you’ve never…” He was looking for a way to ask without it being too blunt or intrusive.

“Nope, pure, clean… just like pine sol.” I giggle as he chuckled a bit.

“You come up with the strangest things.” He closed his eyes and shook his head more.

“I can’t help it. When it rains… I just get so… playful I guess you could say.” I smiled at him while looking into his liquid topaz eyes. “Besides these people need something to spice up their life,” I push my empty tray that only had a little bit of cheese left away. “And I just so happen to have those spices,” I pat my trusty messenger bag.

“Oh, you do?” He eyed me then my bag, smirking.

“Yeah, I have a book of a hundred different sex positions; I was wondering which one you think would be best.” I grinned as he almost chocked on air.

“Did your mom drop you on your head or something,” he asked laughing softly. I couldn’t help that my bottom lip quivered. After a second I pushed forth another smile.

“I guess you could say that.” I got up grabbing my things. Oh no, don’t you do it Jewlz—don’t you dare get upset. No, no, and no you are going to stay happy today. Don’t do this today.

“Where are you doing?” He asked quickly as he had seen the flicker of emotion that sparked on my face.

“To class, I’m done eating.” I walked to the trashcan to throw my things away.

“Did I say something?” He asked as we got into the hall.

“I don’t know, did you just say something, I’m pretty sure that you did.” I smile up at him playfully.

“No, I’m serious.” He leaned against the wall.

“Forget it, just where were you all week?” I crossed my arms over my chest.

“My family and I went up to the mountains,” he shrugged his shoulders.

“Sure,” I sigh while rolling my eyes. “You don’t know how horrible it’s been here.”

“What, did you miss me?” he leaned towards me smirking.

“As if, it’s the sun,” I threw my hands up. “I swear sometimes I just want to stab it.” I pretended to stab something in my hand.

“Awe, poor Jewlzie,” Edward rolled his beautiful eyes.

“Hmph,” I pout, “Oh I know.” I run to the class room and pull out my i-pod and my docking station and set it on the desk. I turn on a random song by DJ Satomi. I sing and dance along as Edward leans against the door, smiling at me.

“You know if the teacher catches you with that he’ll take it away,” Edward hadn’t taken his eyes off of me as he walked to his seat.

“Welp, I doubt that. I’d give him my infamous puppy-dog pout.” I smile while continuing my dance-a-thon. The song finally ends I pack everything away. I always arrive to class ten to fifteen minutes earlier before anyone else does. Everyone stays in the lunchroom to chat, but I figure it’s a waste of time so I leave. I stretched back over my chair. I popped my elbow and Edward looked at me.

“What you never pop your bones?” I ask.

“Whatever,” he smiles.

“That’s what I thought mister disappear-for-a-week-in-the-woods.” I laid my arms on the desk.

“Mountains,” he corrected me.”

“Do they not have trees?” I asked.

“Well… yeah,” he answered simply.

“That’s what I thought.” I smirked triumphantly.

“So, how’s Vincent?” I could detect the faintest bit of dislike in his voice.

“Good, I guess.” I answered truthfully.

“You guess?”

“Well, he’s been busy with work so I don’t see him that often.” I was picking at my nails.

“Oh,” Edward looked out the window. Things became quiet as we sat there, not really knowing what to talk about.

“So, uh, whatcha doing this weekend?” I asked suddenly.

“Nothing…” He replied.

“Sounds very interesting… I think I may do that as well,” I leaned back in my chair.

“You’re going to fall,” Edward stated.

“Not if you don’t make me,” I snap and watch him carefully especially since last time he was the one that made me fall. “So, do you want to hang out this weekend?”

“Hm, ionno.” He replies with a goofy smile on his face, I hate to admit but even that I found highly attractive.

“Trust me; there won’t be any hot cookies—of any kind.” I smirk.

“I’ll see.” He gives a short laugh.

“Oh, so you have to ask daddy D?” I ask while toying with a pencil that I got out of my bag.

“Daddy d,” Edward looked at me quizzically.

“Yeah, daddy dearest, duhh,” we both laugh.

“I’ll come over Sunday,” he smirks at me.

“Okies, don’t get any wrong ideas now.” I wink as he laughs at me. The rest of the day passes without anything interesting. I poke more fun at Edward about lunch and then talk to Mikey, he found what happened hilarious. He said that Jessica was speechless because she didn’t know what to think.

Jessica came up to me and told me she was going to tell me off because I had told her that Edward and I wasn’t dating, but then she felt stupid when she realized I was playing a joke on Edward. So, I was lucky. She also wanted to confirm our Monday date. I can’t wait… No, I could actually wait longer.

Then there was PE which we all know I love. It was boring since we were now trying to jump over those hurdle things? They just don’t know how clumsy I am, so I wasn’t surprised that I fell over almost every single one. I remember hearing Mike cackling, and then he did the same thing. Ha, that’s what he gets! Laugh at me, that should teach him.

I was so happy when the buzzard sounded. I changed and almost raced out to the car, thank god it’s Friday! “Hey Jewlz, wait up,” Mike called out to me. I got back out of my car and looked at him as he slowed down to a walk.

“What’s up Mikster,” I smiled up at him as he reached me.

“So, you and Edward aren’t dating, right?” Mike asked kind of like he was a bit shy.

“Uhm, no why,” I leaned against my car.

“Well, I was wondering if you would like to uh, go to that spring dance with me.” Mike had a half-hearted goofy smile plastered onto his face which was probably due to nerves.

“Mike I already told you that I’m not going—if I were I would have said yes but I don’t like going to dances. Plus, I’ve seen the way you’ve been looking at Jessica, why don’t you ask her?” I smiled up at him as a small blush creeps to his cheeks.

“Because she’ll say no,” he scratched at the back of his neck.

“Well, I said no so now you’re prepared to ask her, right?” I patted his arm. “Be a bit more confident and don’t worry about it.” He nodded and smiled. “I’m serious, bro, just go for it and if she says no it’s just a dance anyway.”

“You’re right,” he ruffled up my hair. I slapped at his hands playfully.

I rolled over as I heard some obnoxious knocks from downstairs. I ignored it for a while, because really who bothers other people while they are sleeping? That’s just ridiculous. I yawned and hugged my pillow tightly and the knocks continued.

“Grawr,” I growled as I rose from the bed like a zombie rising from the grave. “Who dares wake me up at the wee hours of…” I looked at the clock. “One in the afternoon, too early,” I groan as I get out of bed—tumble is more like it. I growl at the floor as I pick myself up and untangle myself from the covers.

I slowly walk down the stairs in my pajamas which consist of a black tank-top with Thumper on it and a pair of boi shorts with a red heart on the hip. On the third step up, I slip over a speck of dust and roll the rest of the way down. “Owie,”I whimper while sitting up and rubbing my butt. The knocks became more frantic and urgent.

I get up and open the door to come face to face with Edward… Oh, today must be Sunday, I completely forgot. “Gah… what are you doing here… this early in the morning?” I ask dramatically while yawning and shoving my hand through my tangled mess of hair.

“Are you ok, I hear a loud thud?” He was staring down at me as if looking for some kind of wound or something.

“Yeah, I fell from the heavens, now answer my question.” I rub my eyes as trying to remove the sleep.

“You wanted me to come by, so here I am. I thought you’d be up by now, I guess I was wrong.” He smirked at me.

“Grr, please come in.” I move to the side so that Edward can walk in. I shut the door behind him and then walk to the kitchen to look for some kind of breakfast.

“Sleep well,” he asks as he watches me make myself a glass of orange juice.

“I was sleeping just fine.” I reply as I sit down after making myself a bowl of fruity pebbles. “I had a good dream.” I smiled while taking a bite of my cereal.

“Oh, what about?” He leaned forward, interested.

“I was…” I smirk to myself. “Having hot cookies with…” I look around the room as I try to think of someone to say. “Carlisle,” I say with a straight face while bringing the spoon to my lips. Edward looked genially surprised.

“Sex… with Carlisle?” He asked with wide eyes.

“Yes, best dream sex like… ever. I mean I’ve had a few,” I wink. Don’t laugh Jewlz, keep it together, don’t smile either! I had to mentally remind myself over and over.

“Uh…” He mumbled while looking away from me.

“I had one with you once… that was pathetic.” I laugh inwardly. “It was so small.” I bit back a laugh as I seen how offended Edward was getting. I was literally biting the inside of my cheek.

“Hm,” he scratched the back of his head as he scrunched up his face. I couldn’t help it, I died laughing again.

“I’m sorry… I couldn’t resist.” I had to set my spoon down so I wouldn’t accidentally make a mess during my laughing fit.

“That was all a lie… right?” he asked hopeful.

“Yes,” I say, now able to catch my breath. “I’m not all into the whole wet dreams thing.” I smile, still a bit giggly.

“Could’ve fooled me,” Edward smirked.

“I’m not a whore, sheesh.” I take a sip of orange juice through a straw.

“I know, Jewlz.” He smiled sweetly this time.

“So, are you hungry, I mean I wasn’t really thinking when I made me food. If you want anything you can grab it from the cabinets and such. Sorry for being so rude,” I smiled, feeling a bit bad for being a terrible hostess, I did invite him over and I didn’t have anything ready.

“No, I’ve already ate.” He smiles, but I saw a strange spark in his eyes as if he had meant something else. I could only guess what that could be.

“So, what do you have planned, tough-stuff?” I take a bite out of my cereal.

“Whatever you want,” he shrugged his shoulders.

“Hmm… what I want. I would love to have hot yummy melty soft cookies with a vampire.” I say nonchalantly. Completely oblivious to what was sitting across from me.

“Huh,” he choked, bewildered by my statement.

“Oh c’mon, I’m joking. Geez, Mr. I-Have-No-Humor, we all know that vampire’s aren’t real. Mickey mouse killed them all.” I smirked. Poor vampires, I wish they were real though. That would be kind of interesting.

“You are such a loser,” Edward was laughing to himself.

“Oh of course,” I got up and washed my bowl and spoon. A few moments of silence pass. I was sneaking looks at Edward but I would then look away quickly. I guess we could watch a movie or play a game or something since later on it would be storming.

Hmm… I look at him again. He is really handsome… now that I really thinking about it. Oh, do I hear someone getting turned on? Oh god brain, shut up. I think he’s handsome, not freaking screw him in the pew at a Catholic church during a session. Gosh… though… oh don’t even go there. I’m an insane pervert I swear… I shake my head and laugh inwardly as I walk back over to Edward.

“So uh… how are you?” I ask, trying to shatter the silence that had befallen the kitchen.

“I’m good, you,” he turned in his seat at the table to get a better look at me. I saw his eyes travel up and down my body.

“Oh, I’m good.” I smile back at him and shift on my feet a bit uncomfortable. “If you don’t mind I’m going to get into something a little more appropriate so you don’t get any nasty thoughts, mister pervert-man.” I walk to the door of the kitchen.

“I’m not the pervert here,” he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Are you insinuating that I am?” I pretended to be shocked and hurt by the assumption.

“Now why would I go and say a thing like that,” He rolled his eyes as he asked sarcastically.

“Who knows, must be my ultra-sexiness going to your brain.” My smirk widens as I stick out my hip.

“You wish,” he laughed more.

“Well, make yourself at home.” He follows me as I head to the living room and start going up the stairs.

“Don’t trip,” he teased and I could hear the smugness in his voice. Of course he would say something like that I don’t know why I would be surprised.

“Oh great, thank you for jinxing me,” I yell back down the stairs. I enter my room and change into a large off-shoulder pink shirt that says Taking back what once was mine going down the front. I put on a pair of faded jean capris, and socks that had left and right written on them. Except I put them on the opposite foot.

Everything is so much more interesting when they are backwards. I walk down casually, making sure not to trip because how embarrassing would that be? I sat on the couch next to Edward and propped my feet up on the coffee table.

“I never thought I would say something like this, but you have your socks on the wrong feet.” He looked up to my brightly smiling face.

“Oh, are you sure? Maybe I just have backwards feet syndrome.”

“Sure you do, that would explain why you trip over everything.” I gave him a little glare which made him smirk more.

“There’s a storm approachin’ maties,” I was pretending to sound like a pirate as I closed one of my eyes as if it were missing. Even though Edward was shaking his head I could tell that amused him.

“Yes, I know.”

“Good, so let’s see what can we do… I could give you a makeover,” I tried on my valley girl accent. “Just kidding,” I giggled.

“What would you like to do?” he laid his arm on the back of the couch.

“Hmm… well we could play a game like strip gold fish.”

“Strip… goldfish?”

“Yeah… you’re right, I would get confused.” I tapped on my chin as Edward chuckled. “We could always…” I gave up. “Gah, I can’t think of a single thing to do!” I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Jewlzie…” he was shaking his head more; I had that effect on him.

“Well, let’s you see you come up with something.” I folded my arms over my chest, he shrugged his shoulders. “See, there. Fine.”

“So, when is your birthday?” He asked out of the blue.

“May tenth,” I answered, and looked at the ground thinking. I don’t like my birthday…

“What’s wrong,” he asked curiously.

“I’ve never had good birthday experiences,” I answered truthfully, still not looking at him.

“Why’s that?” he asked, scooting a little closer to me.

“Just… it’s not important.”

“If it gets you upset, it is important,” he said sternly, reaching over and moving a piece of hair behind my ear.

“I always seemed to uh…” I was trying to think of a good way to say this. “I just… seem to get hurt more during that time.”

“What do you mean by hurt?” he was looking at me with a hardened expression.

“Just stuff, you know,” I look up into his worried eyes. “Now, let’s turn those frowns upside down and just have some fun.” I smile weakly.

“No, tell me.” He insists.

“No, what’s done is done.” Not like you would be able to do anything about it… or would care to try to do anything.

“Fine…” he let out a frustrated sigh while sitting back.

“Listen, I know I keep saying this but I promise I will tell you everything later… sometime soon, I just need more time.” I chewed on the bottom of my lip.

“I see,” he smiles and I give him a quick hug. I know it must be frustrating but every time I get close to telling him I get scared, I just don’t know how to come about it, and I know I am going to have to eventually. Things just have to be right, I have everything under control.

“Why is there never anything to do when you really want to do something?” I asked no one in particular. Edward shrugs his shoulders and I sigh. “Well, we could watch a movie…” I scrunch up my nose. “Unless you want to play rummy,” I turn to him after looking around the room.

“Either is fine with me,” he is so boring… Yes a gentlemen but I wish he would give me some input!

“Rummy it is,” I hoisted myself up and walked over to the entertainment center. I remember Vincent setting a deck of cards up here. I reached and tried to get the card. “Er… just… come to me.” I was standing on my tip toes.

I felt someone behind me as they reached over and grabbed the deck of cards. “Is this what you were looking for?”

“Oh shove it, I had everything under control.” I pouted.

“To me it looked like you wasn’t able to reach, midget.”

“I am not a midget!” I huffed, pouting more as I turned my head away from him. “C’mon,” I motioned over to the table. We sat down. My first hand sucked so I lost. The next game I won, and this was the third hand—the one which would decide who would win. “You are going down,” I smirked across the table.

“We’ll see, won’t we?”
“Hmm…” I sat my cards down face down and got up.

“What are you doing?” He looked at me suspiciously.

“Not being perverted now, but I really want some cookies and there’s a bag of Oreos calling my name.” I had him walk to the kitchen with me because he might cheat! I saw them on the top shelf peering down at me. I was almost on the verge of tears as I tried to reach, how unfair is the world? “Why does everything have to be so freaking high,” I mutter to myself.

“Need some help,” I turn around to a smug Edward.

“Yes,” I puckered out my lower lip. “Stupid,” I said childishly as he walked over to the cabinet chuckling. He easily got the bag down and handed them to me. “Thanks,” I skipped off to the living room table. “Now, with this bag of smex, I shall crush you,” I bellowed as I held up my bag of cookies.

“Sure,” he was smiling at my childish antics.

“Gosh, I actually won.” I got up and did a series of dances, making up my own victory dance.

“I could’ve sworn that I had you…” Edward was sulking.

“Hehe, well you didn’t.” I danced a bit more.

“Don’t brag so much,” he rolled his eyes. I smiled and giggled. I looked at the clock. Five-forty-five, time does fly doesn’t it? I had beaten Edward two out of three times, hell yeah with a bag of cookies in my hand, I felt like the queen of Earth.
“Can you put these back up,” I smiled sweetly as I held up my bag of cookies.

“What, can’t reach?” He smirked as I frowned.

“No, no I can’t. I may be short but hey I beat you twice in rummy.” I boasted triumphantly.

“Hmph,” he took the bag out of my hand and put them on the top of the shelf and then pushed them to the back of the cabinet, so that way next time I wanted them… it would be bloody difficult.

“Oh, now that’s just wrong…” I looked at him reproachfully, like a mother would look at her son who had just broken her favorite vase.

“What,” he asked innocently.

“You know what you did mister,” I smirked. “You lost to a girl in cards, that’s what.” I strutted around the room victoriously.
