Maybe I Wasn't Enough

Pushing It All Away

"Bye mom!" I called as I closed the big wooden door behind me. I quickly ran across the street, and knocked on the door. "Hey Izzy. Mike'll be ready in a second." Vic said, motioning for me to come inside. I nodded, and plopped down on the sofa, and Vic did the same.
"Hey, Vic? What would you say if Mike and I skipped school for the day, and hung out here?" I asked. "Well," Vic began. "I would laugh at you for skipping school when you've only been here for three weeks, and think for a while before agreeing that it would be okay." He said. A smile formed upon my lips. "Thank-" "But, you have to leave for a while. Take Mike with you. Our mom will be here for about an hour or so." I thanked him, before pulling him into an embrace and running up the stairs into Mike's room. "Mikey!" I yelled. He smiled, as he slipped his shoes on. "Izzy!" He yelled back. "We're skipping, today. But for the time being, I'm taking you shopping." I said. Mike groaned, and I sighed loudly. "Oh, stop being a bitch!" He chuckled, and we both skipped down the stairs. "Call me when it's okay to come back." I said to Vic, grabbing my book bag, and following Mike out the door. "Hold on." I said, running back across the street, and into my backyard. I quickly jumped over the fence with ease, and noticed Mike had followed me. "What're you doing?" He asked. I sighed, before answering. "I need more money, duh." He chuckled, and I handed him my one shouldered book bag. I took a few steps back, and looked over the house for a second. Once I decided the easiest way to go, I walked over to the lattice on the side of the house. I began climbing it, and once I reached my bedroom window, I took a bobby pin out of my hair. I quickly bent it with my teeth, and picked the lock on the old window. I pushed it open, and climbed inside. I decided that $50 was decent enough. I put the money in my back pocket, and climbed back out, and down the side of the house. "Dude," Mike said. "If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you did this kind of thing for a living." He handed me my book bag back. I couldn't help but smile. "There isn't exactly a lot to do in Wyoming. I actually got paid for helping kids sneak out of their houses to go get drunk - and eventually they'd get caught anyways." I chuckled. "You where the badass in school, weren't you?" Mike said, smiling. I sighed. "No! Of coarse not! Well...sure. I guess you could say it like that." He chuckled, and we walked to the mall.

"Mkay." I said. "I only want I go to one more place, but you'll like this one." I said. He looked at me, apprehensively. "Come on!" I said, grabbing his hand and attempting to drag him (which ended in an epic failure).

His jaw dropped as we approached the Harry Potter merchandise department. "You like Harry Potter?" He asked, a little over enthusiastically. I nodded. "But you're a girl!" He stated. I stared at him. "Way to go, genius." I added before walking into the store.

I couldn't help but feel a little disappointment in Mike. Wad he one of those stereo typical guys? The ones who thought girls shouldn't play video games. Or girls didn't know how to play sports. Which, in my case, was absolutely wrong. Having been the fastest female in my high school, a volleyball player, and on the track team. I was appreciated by all the jocks. But hated throughout the rest of the day in high school.

Memories of my books being pushed down flooded to my mind. I remembered being called worthless. But the worst of it, was when the bullying followed me home. My 'block list' on Facebook was a mile long. And yet, people still managed to get to me through the Internet. I remembered people acting out things that I had said -right in front of me. But that wasn't even the worst part of it all, in truth. It was the way they acted out Sam and I having intercourse, and him not knowing what to do because he had never had a girlfriend - just boyfriends.

"Earth to Izzy!" Mike called, waving a hand in front of my face. I glared at him. "What's wrong? What'd I do?" He asked. I looked to the ground, and shook my head. "It's nothing." I lied. He engulfed me in a hug, and I began crying into his shoulder. He was the only one I had told about what actually went on in Wyoming. Mike had made me feel like everything was going to be okay. I mean, it was going to be okay, wasn't it?

"Shhh..." Mike pulled me into his chest. "Come on. We can go home and you can tell me what's wrong, okay?" I nodded, and followed him out of the mall.

Everything was left unsaid, but Mike wanted to destroy whatever was hurting her. They hadn't known each other for long, but Izzy was his best friend. She was understanding. Unlike most, Izzy listened to the entire story, before saying anything. She would just watch you talk as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. She was emotionless until the end of the explanation. That was just one thing Mike loved about her. He tried his best to push out the thoughts of crushing his lips to hers when they where so close together. He pushed out all of the thoughts he had when he seen her in the morning everyday. How beautiful she always was, how melodic her voice was, how perfect she was; he pushed out all of those thoughts. He had to. Right?
