What's Wrong With Me?

"This storm has affected parts of Asia, Europe, North America, and all of Great Britain. Causing over 4,152 deaths worldwide. So at the BBC we advise you to stay indoors during a hail storm. Thanks and we're back to your regular program, goodnight Bristol."

"Wow, 4,152 deaths!" I said out loud, thinking about almost making that number 4,153 deaths. It was a scary almost being that close to death, because I am not ready to die. I am only 17 years old, barely into adulthood.

I looked down; my hands were starting to shake. I was overwhelmed, but happy. Happy to be a live I cried and laughed as I felt the warm tears fall down my face. I looked into the mirror across from my hospital bed and realized I was smiling, so glad to be alive. I then looked down again and realized my hands stopped shaking. So I looked into the mirror again and I was nowhere to be seen, my reflection was gone. But I was still sitting in the exact same place and could not see myself in the mirror.

To prove to myself that I was just seeing things because of the bump on my head, I got up from the hospital bed. As my two feet hit the ground I felt as my bare feet stuck to the linoleum. I walked over to the mirror pushing my IV bags along with me as I went. Once I reached the mirror I reached out and touched the glass where my reflection was supposed to me. I started to cry again as I realized there was something wrong with me, my mum was right. This kind of thing does not happen to normal people, they have and can see their reflections.

"What's wrong with me?"

I wrote this story for my high school creative writing class back in 2012. We had to write an original story and I decided to write this in dedication to the UK TV shows Misfits and Skins. Thanks for reading this short story, I hope you enjoyed it.
