I agree with the previous comments. I really think it was the older vampires. You know, like Dracula. There is another vampire novel that I'm into called Blue Bloods, and it's pretty darn good.
But what about all the vampires that were famous and around way before twilight? Elizabeth Bathory, Dracula, they were all famous vampires which caused a craze a the time, and still do.Twilights not even really that good in comparison to those, because they scared people. The original vampires or whatever you want to call them were terrifying, and thats the way the should stay.
HeLLO? Salem's Lot? Dracula? Interview with a vampire?
How did Twilight start any of this?
The woman had a dream and wrote about it.
Twilight is a disgrace.
Really. It's just terrible
Bella and Edward started it?
No they did not.
You failed to mention any of the old, and good, vampire novels in this article. Edward and Bella promoted it, they didn't start it. Dracula did. Dracula was, I think, the first vampire novel and what got people started on these creatures.
It's unfortunate think so many people think it all started with Twilight. What about Anne Rice's Interview With A Vampire, or plain old Dracula? Classics, where it all actually began. And there are a variety of books better than Twilight. Of course this is just my opinion, but I don't think Twilight is good enough to have an obsession over. I mean people sell Edward Cullen body glitter and sweetheart candy that has stupid sayings like, dazzle! It's ridiculous! And it's pretty gay that he sparkles in the sunlight anyway; why can't his strength, speed-powers-just be weakened? I'm sorry, because it sounds like I'm judging, whining, and tearing down you and Stephenie Meyer's work, but it's really annoying with everyone under Edward Cullen's supposed charm! But I do admit that vampires are taking over.
Its so sad people think that vampires really just start with Twilight, whereas, I don't even know how Twilight classifies as a vampire series.
The classics, man, the classics. Its scary that all of this will be lost- and to my own generation. :\
lolz we do have to admit even if I would say that there are way better books then twilight * im one of those fans that loves the seires but has read better books* that It did start the craze. lolz but I will still say alexander sterling is my edward.. vampire kisses is just cuter. lolz but I started reading about vampires when I was young and still remember that vampire breath by RL STINE started my craz. and that was when I was 6 and Im 15 now.. some people are just drawn to vampires and werewolfs.. its natural..
Vampires have been around for ages, but I think the point is that the current Vampire craze pretty much was started by Twilight.
I love Twilight as a book by itself, but I'm kind of over vampires. I don't even like Vampires to be completely honest (I think Twilight and Buffy, but because while there's a massive Vampire focus there's still more a human focus as well). I'm tired of seeing rows of books that all look the same that are all about vampires. It's just other authors trying to cash in on the craze (as in the ones that came out after Twilight, I'm not talking about your Rice novels or Dracula or anything).
Be original.
At least S.Meyer wasn't writing going 'yes, vampires, that's in, this'll make me a lot of money'.
No, to say Bella and Edward started it would be wrong. They just promoted it.
And even to the haters, a lot of times and Bella and Edward are the reason why we want to write stories where VAMPIRES DO NOT SPARKLE.
I don't mind if all of these vampire novels are coming out, because its nice to see how those Authors can create their own vampires, soo really just love it all, twilight, trueblood, vamps, Vampire Academy, Evernight. As much as it's the same crap, i love to see how they change, and shuffle it around so its not like twilight or anything. And the classics are the classics, Like wasn't there a wizard stage after harry potter?
At first I thought vampires were the awesomest thing out there. However, for the past 2 years...If I see another cheesy vampire book or where its vampire vs werewolves I am going to shot something.
Sorry.
I just started this all, but yes i agree. I forgot about Dracula knowing clutzy me. If you have any ideas for a new article I promise to meet your standards. And yes, Queen of the Damned is da bomb! And Buffy? She's even better! Besides this is about this year too. But yes, I completely agree.
I miss the classic vampires, like the one's from the Buffy/Angel days...
I like the Twilight series and the books by Charlaine Harris/True Blood but ever since Twilight became so famous, it has gotten annoying.
People "plotting" to get rid of 'Bella' so they can have 'Edward.' They're fictional characters people, all's you can do is dream.
It seems everywhere I go it's: Edward this, Edward that, Twilight this, Twilight that, Team Edward... No, Team Jacob!
I like vampires but there is only so much one can take; and the way I see it, well the only reason other Vampire books and stuff are becoming popular is because the Twilight hype.
I love vampire diaries, at least it had a PLOT and the main character wasn't useless *cough bella cough* but I love vampires even if twilight ruined it (I've read the books and that's what I think so can't say I haven't read em >>)
i don't think they have to 'research' to write their books, they are making something unique and their own. taking little bits from here and there to create something original. i love vampires and hope the idea never 'dies'
