It's about time someone posted something like this! I mean in the scale of things, if you look at most stuff that's actually been published- very few stories are actually slash. I do read and write slash too, but realisitcally het shouldn't be slated so much!

O.o I did not know that was happening.
People need to deal with it. >____>
A story is a story, doesn't matter if it's this or that.
=) Nice article.

Thank you for taking the time to express an very correct statement. It needed to be said. I agree as most prob do too. I am afraid being unseen behind screen names allows people to regress and do things they would not do if in the public eyes. Ie have a bad day take it out on someone else. It is sad but please do not take what people say to heart for just this reason. * pat on back for the author. xoxoxo thanks again for taking the time it will really help put some light to those hurtfull words ro others..

Way to go!! I agree wholeheartedly. I love some het fics. I love some slash fics. It all depends on the writer, not the gender of a character. That's how it goes.
Well written article too. :D

I'm a slash fan and writer but i am reading a few het fics and i have to say that although the majority of the ones i've read are cliched and boring, one of the ones i'm currently reading is really well written and i'm hooked (just in case any ones would like to read it, it's called We Like Movies). I must admit, i used to be all like "Ew. Het is gross," but like you said, I'd get mad if someone said that about slash so I've come to the conclusion that it's not the sexuality of the pairings, it's how well the story is written. Some slash stories absolutely suck and some het stories are awesome so you jive everything a chance before you can have an informed opinion on it and if you don't like het, don't read it and DON'T knock it.

I totally agree.
Whilst I find Mibba refreshing in the fact that I can post slash on here without anyone telling me how sick minded I am, it does make me mad to see Het pairings getting dissed. I mean, yeah I make the general comment of "ew het." to my friends in a verbal setting, but to go out on the net and just plain out insult someone like that is wrong.
Congrads for speaking up about it.

I think people shouldn't click on the story title if they already know they're not going to like it. This doesn't just apply to het/slash, but to different ships as well. Don't go to read a story you already think sucks just so you can tell the author (and everyone else) how much you dislike it. I agree with the point this article makes. Flaming is mean. Use constructive criticism and do some good.

I'm lesbian, and so far my favorite story is a het pairing. my second favorite hasn't got a pairing yet. It'll probably be hetro though.
I get kind of tired of all the boy/boy stories..but there are some really good ones.
Then again.. I get annoyed at most lesbian stories. I have yet to find a non-bad written lesbian story.

Of course, I haven't read all of the stories yet.

Excellent post. I definitely agree with this. I, myself, am a huge slash fan, and not particualrly fond of heterosexual fic, but I still do not agree with people who badmouth it, then whine about people who bash them for writing slash.

Although I don't find people writing about theirselves (is that a word?), excuse me, themselves, with a band member disrespectful, for some reason it embarasses me. I much prefer to read about a bandboy and bandgirl together, because it feels more natural to me. This, however, is a personal problem, and I'll avoid the story rather than purposely reading it then bitching the author out about it. Likewise, I would prefer a person not read my story just to tell me I'm a bad person for liking slash.

Again, I agree with your point about female characters. I have read multiple stories where there are EXCELLENT female characters I LOVED. They were well-written with good plot development. Alternately, I have read some of the shittiest slash stories ever, where one of the boys acted like the biggest teenage girl, just because he was gay. So there you go. It's the writer, that's all.

Thanks again for your great article.

I myself really don't care.... I mostly read "Het" but I have a soft spot for gay guy stories. I'm not too into girl on girl stories, but if you want to write or read it, that's fine with me.

I personally don't like it when tow characters have sex... b y themn I'm going "Is this a teen story, or a soap opera" I just don't like reading things that are like "and then he slept with this girl, and blah blah blha"

I don't mean, all stories with characters that have sexa re like that, but I would just rather not get into it...

I actually really like cliche stories... just as long as it's written as if it wasn't cliche, whcih is sometimes quite difficult.

anyway....nice article

THANK YOU! As a writer of het, I really hate it when people won't read a story just because the main character is female. Het stories are read way less then slash because it's boy/girl, when it really makes no sense. Love is love, right? I've read a few Gary-Sue's in slash myself. Thank you for this wonderful article, hopefully it will make people think.

THANK YOU! i am so glad that someone has finally said that. it's so hypocritical on so many levels that slash writers say "don't like, don't read" but feel they can flame het stories. i happen to read both genres and there are good stories and good plots in both of them, and at the same time they both have cliche and badly written stoires. how well a story is written has absolutely nothing to do with the genre, it is the fualt of the writer only.
thank you so much for writing this, it really did need to be said :)

Amazing article.

I used to be a super large slash fan, I still am, but het is really growing on me.
I never said those things, but maybe I might have thought them.
But I'd never have made the opinion vocal like some, that's really bad.

Thank you for writing this. (:
