A few kids did this at my school today, including me, and I was amazed how people reacted to everyone who didn't talk. Teenagers can be so cruel. D: Me and my friend actually got kicked out of one of our classes by the teacher, too.

I took part in last years DOS and I was the only one at my UK high school that knew about it. It got a lot of support though. But also alot of discrimination. I can't believe that I can't take part in tomorrows since it's a school holiday and people talk to you alot more than in school. =[ But I'll always give my support XD

Ahh, I can't wait. :) *dances*

We're doing that tomorrow. I don't know how many people will, but I just have one question: how does staying silent help end the silence???

I mean, you'd think you'd want to talk about your orientation even if it's just one person.

I support gay rights, but, technically, this is political propaganda in schools which I don't support.

Very lovely article, though. :]

Isn't April 17 tomorrow?
My dad tells me he's keeping me from going to school because if we can't pray in a public school then we shouldn't be allowed to be silent for gays and lesbians. But he doesn't get it. Not like I'd pray anyway. >.<
I'm going to do this, forsure.

No, they're not supposed to do it like that. You're supposed to not talk at all. The way they did it sort of makes it seem like they're having a 'I'll only talk to you if you believe what I believe' club. That's DEFINITELY not the message this day is supposed to send.

I participated in the event last year, although I couldn't convince anyone else to do it with me. This year I definately would, if it wasn't the day all the physics classes at my school were going to Six Flags

People at my school, and I don't know why, did that yesterday, the 15 of May. I would have done so too if I had known they were, but I didn't. What I didn't like about it, is that they were handing out stickers and they said that if you had a sticker on, then they could talk to you. I always thought that the Day of Silence ment that you never talked all day. But I could be wrong. Am I? Either way, I don't think that it is right to talk to anyone. Could someone tell me if what they were doing was correct, or is there really a correct way?

I organized this event at my school for the first time this year. I only have about twenty people staying silent, but at least three times that in supporters. I was astounded at how helpful all my teachers were and how supportive they were of me organizing this.

Also, GSAs (Gay Straight Alliances) are great to have in schools. Bullying problems can be addressed as well as just fun activities to meet new friends who you can be open about this sort of thing with, without feeling like you're being judged. Again, I'm organizing for one to start at my school next year.

I love this. I haven't been able to participate because my school would not go for this.I haven't come to terms with my sexuality, I am assuming I am straight, but I just don't know. Wahoo!

This is my 2nd year doing this. I just recently came to terms with my sexuality (bisexual) and still my parents and family have no idea. You see, my family is filled with some pretty heavy christians and I have no idea how they'd react. I feel like if I tell my mom her first and final thought will be to throw me out and that will be that. Idk, I may be wrong, but I don't know if it's worth it. I've always been a supporter of gay rights but now its much more personal because I see and feel the pain many of my friends have been through. My school is pretty good when it comes to cutting down on harrassment of any kind, but there are always those few kids ya know? So, I'm not only doing this for myself and other LGBT students but all students who have been bullied or harrassed.

Come live here in South America.

Even thinking of the word gay is a sin. It's a shame to see how the people here live their lives hating on everything that isn't the same as them. If a boy walks down the street wearing something that isn't the typical boy colors, they're easily targeted and killed.

I'm doing it again this year.

Just the fact that I've been recruiting people to do it has earned me more abuse than normal.
