Yeah, but no modern nation actually invented laws. It's all stuff they got from people who got stuff from other people, so the origins of Canada, USA, England, Mexico, Norway, Japan, etc. don't really matter.

Proposition 8 is actually no longer a law in California, and thank god it's not. Proposition 8 was successfully overturned by the 9th Circuit and Supreme Court last year in June. Furthermore, even when Proposition 8 was passed, the California Supreme Court ruled that the couples married before the law was enacted could stay legally wed as it would be unconstitutional to force them to divorce. However, the sheer fact that there was a threat of forced divorce should upset anyone. Just because they can still live together doesn't mean it is any less of a big deal. Think about it this way... If you married someone you truly loved but were then told your marriage was "invalid" and "illegal" thus forcing you to divorce, would you shrug it off in the same way? Probably not. You would feel offended and hurt; you would feel less than human because that is what the law says you are: less than human.

You're right that it isn't fair for people to blame solely just Christianity but it is fair to blame Christianity partially because Christianity is largely the reason why LGBTQ people have suffered so much oppression and discrimination. Religion can do a lot of good (but Christianity did not create the laws of society) but it can also do a lot of bad. Please don't ignore the bad your religion does. Don't ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist. Your religion encourages plenty of bad things and has done bad things. Instead of trying to toss that aside, condemn the bad your religion has done and stand up to it. Make sure it doesn't happen again. By sitting down and trying to ignore the bad, you become part of the problem.

I know many Californians who, at the time of passing Prop 8, were angry and upset at Christianity. They had every single right to be as well. Christian churches, mainly the LDS, were the biggest funders of Proposition 8. It was because the churches put out so many lies and untruthful propaganda against same-sex marriage did so many LGBTQ Californians have to suffer. Speaking as a Californian, that disdain towards Christianity no longer exists because Christians have stood up for what is right and condemned the hateful part and members of their religion.

Let's remove peoples rights, I see the logic in this. I think I might rebel against the government if they pull this crap.
