It's 3 times the speed of sound, not light.
My bad, I misread it, sorry. That's still pretty fast though, isn't it?

    ^ Oh right!

Yeah, pretty fast. U-2 spy planes and that. Yeah. At the tip of space.

I've seen planes that travel faster than the speed of sound. It's well weird. You see them go past, then you hear them go past and you're looking around for it, even though you've just seen it go past :XD It's pretty mental.

    340 metres per second.
Light is 300,000,000 metres per second.

I don't know what that is in miles or km per hour or anything though, we only used metres per second in physics.

I looked at Area 51 from Google Earth and I saw a bunch of buildings, a heliport and some planes. Doesn't look very secretive to me...

The only people who says it doesn't exist is the US government (probably a leftover of thevainglorious Cold War era.

It's stupid, because there very obviously is something there, seeing as the map shows there is.

The speed of light in km is roughly around 300,000 km per second.
And the speed of light in miles is roughly around 186,000 miles per second.

...I feel stupid. I don't think I've ever heard of "Area 51" ...Like, what is it exactly? [well I realize it seems nobody knows what it is really...] ...Can someone sort of explain to me? Is this in the US, or where? And it's closed off to the public..?

It's located in a really really rural area in Nevada. Some people think it's a place that when the UFO in Roswell, New Mexico landed they supposedly took the aliens. Some people think it's just somewhere they test out things like really fast planes and other things. It's really private, though and no one really knows what goes on inside of it.

That's a horrible explanation by the way.
    armageddon.:
Obviously, Area 51 had some serious sh*t it in at one point in time. But it's so publicized now. I'm sure all the Government's secrets are somewhere else entirely by now. They just keep Area 51 under so much surveillance so we don't know they moved everything.
    I think the same thing.

^ Thank you. :] That wasn't really horrible at all. With that, and couple other comments from before I think I've got an idea of what it is now.

From what I gather it seems quite weird. Now I'm very curious 'bout this "Area 51"

I have tried looking for it on Google Earth and only the top of it, or the desert, is visible. Everything is underground.

The UFO hunters on the history channel like did this whole research on it. I have a link to a part of it in an earlier post of mine.

I'm actually really curious: how do people get jobs there?

No way man. I found it on Google earth. It basically looks like a very large, but average aircraft base. Some landing strips, little buildings, et cetera.

It's pretty close to Las Vegas, actually.
