Do You Have a Preferred Rating to Write? Why?

Just a random thought that popped into my head.

I prefer to write NC-17 or R. I like writing sex, even if it's not explicit. I like dark themes and dark subjects. And PG-13 seems a little too light-hearted when I write it.

    So. You guys?

(Additionally, I prefer to read NC-17 because I like reading sex.)

I don't write as many sex scenes as I used to, I just became really bored of finding creative ways to write it. Plus I don't normally write it into a story if it has no real meaning and the sex could just be alluded to. (That's not to say I don't enjoy reading smut myself, I just don't personally write it much anymore.)

I'd say I enjoy writing about darker themes or messy and complicated relationships, where the content would probably be at about an R rating. That's what most of my stories have been lately.

I don't really know how to rate my stories because most of them don't include sex, but I tend to write more darker themes and curse a lot in my writing. So I tend to rate my stories PG-13, though some can be considered R. I go between the two.

I tend not to let my likeness for certain ratings control what I write. I just write what I want to, and whatever rating it turns out to be, so be it.

    I do, too.
But what I like to write is sex so the ratings tend to mirror that. :tehe:

    I prefer PG-13. I'm not sure why. :|
I never feel that my stuff is good enough to be creepy or explicit enough to be R or up.

    I prefer writing R or NC-17.
I just feel that I like to write more mature content [-cough-sex-cough-] more than I should and you can't label that as PG-13.
    I generally only use PG-13 with one-shots.

I don't write much to be considered R or NC-17, so I stick with PG-13. My characters swear, may have sex, possibly murder, but I still see them as YA type stories. I don't write explicitly very often, and when I do, it isn't very well executed. I'll read anything, but I like writing things that most anyone can read.

This is a very interesting topic.

For me, it's never really about rating... I've read BDSM fics and then gone to reading Patrick Stump about a teddy bear... and it's mostly the same for my writing.

I don't know. I've never let ratings influence my writing or thought "oh this story needs to have sex in it" if that makes sense?

I'm really fascinated by what everyone else has said, though. I've never thought of this before, really.

Yeah, pretty much. If something comes out relatively innocent, I do PG. I've never really had G, though, because of subject matter.

I don't really have something I prefer. I just write and rate based on what comes out.

I tend to rate mine R...I have a couple that are G, a couple that are PG and one or two that are NC-17, but R is a good place for me. :tehe: But I swear a lot in stories, so, I figure R is good.
And, lately I've been writing on more dark subjects, but most of those stories haven't been and probably will not be posted.

EDIT. But, like others have said, I don't decide what a story has in it based off what rating I've decided on beforehand. I write then pick the rating that fits.

I tend to write so more of an audience can read what I write... My themes are always fairly dark, so I cannot have under thirteen read. Ever...

I tend to mark as PG-13 simply because I don't put swearing in mine. If a dialogue requires swearing I usually opt the dialogue and write: paused for a second, attempting to control her anger. It didn't last, she simply let out a scream at him. One terrifyingly loud and angry scream. Or along those lines =D
There's always a way around everything, you can opt out sex, you can opt out swearing...
It's all about your writing spirit and what you are passionate about. Mine is usually the dark themes (I love pschology and the likes, so mine are usually about some extreme case of mental anguish).

As for reading, I prefer not to read about sex... But I am reading a novel (not on here, sorry D=) by some guy I've never heard about... And he has the main character having sex with the antagonist of the story a lot O_o' It's kinda weird, but at the same time it all makes sense and it kinda gets me hot under the collar (;D)

    I write PG-13 up.
I like writing about the more "mature" stuff.
I like touching on and toying with the darker stuff.

I pretty much just write PG-13. I think a couple of my one-shots are PG, but that's it really.
I don't know if it's a preference as such, I just don't have particularly mature content. Apart from swearing. And a bit of blood. And kissing. :tehe:

I'm the same. I love writing sex, but I don't add sex to my stories just for the sake of it.

I write what the stories call for, and if that's child molestaion or rape, or assault and murder, then so be it, but I don't mind writing just cute cuddle scenes or first kisses.

I tend to use some 'bad words' though, so it's rare for me to rate stuff as G, for example.

I often kill characters. Swear quite often. Use serious subjects.

I don't write just to have the rating I do, that's the rating it deserves when I'm done.

    I mostly stick to R.

I tend to rate my stories either NC-17 or R. So I guess I have a preferrence of those two. I've written a few PG-13 stories.

I'd say that most of my stories have sexual references and swearing.
Generally my stories are rated PG-13 or R, but I don't set out to write a particular rating.

I usually rate my stories a little higher then normal when I start so I don't feel held back by the rating.
    I usually write R rated, or PG-13.

I put my ratings at NC-17 to cover my ass. If it turns out I wrote something a little more tame, I'll bring down the rating.
