Just out of curiosity, what state is this girl in? Because I know that in some states capital punishment is illegal.

    Good ol' Missouri.

It doesn't matter; they won't execute a minor in any state, even if you technically can. This particular girl has already been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole anyways.

"I just fucking killed someone. I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they're dead. I don't know how to feel atm [at the moment],

It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the 'ohmygawd I can't do this' feeling, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol."

And I think it's safest for everyone for her to be there.

Is it like a prison for the mentally unstable people?

I don't think it was a mental institution; all the news reports I saw simply said "prison."

Well... at least we shouldn't have to worry about her escaping. Right?

And I think that exemplifies an emotional response over a due legal system which is hardly a just system of doing things.

But it's not an emotional response. It's a logical one. If you, at any age, set out to kill someone, as in murder - not accidental killing, you deserve the same prison time for it as anyone else. You committed the same crime. Just because you're a kid doesn't change the crime and if the crime is still the same so should the punishment be also.

I'm not saying that the punishment is not adequate but trying a minor as an adult is different from trying a minor as a minor.

Holy guacamole, where did she say/post that? Just out of curiosity...

Agreed on the fact that it's safer for us all that she is in prison. This will never be a topic that I can fully wrap my head around... :/ However, she has the possibility of parole?

I'm sorry, but can someone explain how the opportunity of parole would be determined in a situation like this? Do they wait for her to turn to eighteen and then evaluate her, or something?

    </questions> XD

She kept a diary where she detailed the attack, police found it.

I doubt she'd be paroled when she's 18, that's only a few years away. It would be much later in her sentence, probably 15-20 years, and they may parole her if she's had good behavior and responded well to psychiatric help.

It's one of the eeriest stories I've seen on the news for awhile. When you look at this girls history and how many times she's slipped through cracks, it makes you wonder how many other kids with extreme psychological distress are being ignored.
This might be a question mostly for Americans, but do you think if she had been in a state other than Missouri her trial would have gone the same way? Missouri is notorious for dishing out the death penalty on par with Texas and minors are tried as adults frequently.

Considering I'm the same age as this girl, I'm honestly horrified. Murder, and death in general, should never be taken lightly. Especially a nine year old's.

Wow. Just wow. To think that a 15 year old girl would be able to do that? She must have an extreme mental illness. Like what cinderella. said, murder should never be taken lightly with. What she did was wrong and - in my opinion - kind of stupid considering her reason for killing that child.

Gosh, I'm seriously getting the creeps now.

As horrible as the crime was, this girl shouldn't have been tried as an adult. More to it, I think that simply throwing her in jail (or dishing out the death penalty) wouldn't have helped at all. It's clear that she had some deep psychological issues, issues that a well trained expert should be tasked with handling and sifting through.

I mean every one has the ability to be changed and moulded given enough time and resources. This girl could be put into therapy, counselled, re-socialized etc to the point where her homicidal urges are a thing of the past, or handled by medication. Idealistic, I know, but I don't think treating an under age, mentally disturbed person as a psychologically sound adult (no matter how tempting it may be) is justifiable.

I think she should've gotten the death penalty. There's no excuse for murder like this,

Not even mental incapacity? Also, how would killing her solve anything?

Those are my exact thoughts to what panhead4life93 had said. I think that at least trying to get her some help would be humane.
