Like I said, there's a difference between the "mobile version" and the "full site" version. So no, the layout wasn't changed just to suit mobiles. The "mobile version" was made for that. It's pretty inconvenient to use the "full site" version (the version you're on now) on your mobile phone; I've tried it.
If it looks like a business site, that probably just means that it looks more professional now, which is a compliment. I personally don't think it's too pale. The site looks neater now, and more user-friendly too.
