Unique Love [Closed]

Mariah squealed as Jake sprayed her with the hose from the sink. She laughed as she threw water on him. Mariah slipped in the water and laughed as she sat on the kitchen floor. She watched as Jake sat next to her and smiled. She kissed his cheek softly as he held the hose up, spraying it so the water fell on them. "I love you." She said.

That was three days ago when once again Jake was acting like the amazing guy he was when he wasn't around his friends. Yet here they were sitting at lunch and he was once again ignoring her. Mariah stared down at her phone as he talked to his friend about sports and what not. She didn't know why she stayed with Jake. Maybe it was because when he wasn't with his friends he was the best boyfriend ever. Mariah looked at him when she felt his eyes on her.

Marcus fixed his tie then walked into his bosses house. They were having some kind of Christmas parties and he hated those. He sighed as he looked around at all the people. Marcus smiled as he greeted his partner, "Hey Micheal." He said as he shook his hand. Marcus felt weird because his partner was so much older than he was. He didn't mind being young and rich though.

Glancing across the lunch room, his eyes rested on Mariah for a moment taking the beauty of his wonderful girlfriend. Her eyes met his for a second before being called by his friend. "Hey! Jake! Back down to Earth, buddy." His friend waved a hand in his face causing his eyes to snap right back to the group of people at his table. Why was he sitting with his friends instead of with Mariah? Well, he hadn't told his friends about the relationship. There really was no clear answer for him as to why yet. Jake knew that they were great together but there was something holding him back from announcing it to the rest of the world. He was the jock that got any girl he wanted and went with the flow.

The group started to frenzy when there were rumors of a party that reached the table. "All those girls, man. We gotta go." One guy announced clearly going for one purpose. Ever since Jake started going out with Mariah, he never felt the need to go to parties anymore. None of that interested him but he would have to go otherwise his friends would suspect something. "Yeah, definitely. Wouldn't miss it." He replied.

Lilly smoothed out her dress in the mirror as she looked at herself before going downstairs for the party. If it weren't for her father's business party, she would have gone downtown with her friends to shop. She sighed knowing that she would have to plaster on a fake smile for her father's co-workers. "Okay, smile." She told herself before leaving the room to meet with the guests downstairs.

As she descended from the staircase, Lilly started to look around trying to pinpoint her father's location. There were some familiar faces among the crowd but whether or not she actually remember their names was a different story. Lilly started to move through people when she saw him with a new face she hadn't seen before.

Mariah heard the bell ring for her next class and got to her feet. She put her phone in her pocket as she walked out of the lunch room. She hoped that one day Jake would be willing to tell his friends about them. She knew that he wasn't going to do that right away though. Mariah went to her locker to get her books then headed to class. She sat in front of Jake's friend and she hated how he thought she liked him.

Lilly's dad smiled when she approached, "Lilly this is Marcus. He's my new partner." He introduced her. Marcus smiled as the stunning young girl in front of him, "It's nice to me you Lilly?" He asked as he shook her hand. He knew she was too young for him,but he couldn't take his eyes away from her.

As the bell rang, he received a myriad of taps on the shoulder before proceeding to get to class. He had class with Mariah next and knew of his friend's thought the she "digged" him. Of course, he obviously knew that it wasn't true but had to play along with it. His friends encouraged that he "tap" that and started to bet on how long it would take. Out of all his friends, Jake had decided that he wasn't going to get the chance to which surprised his friends but they thought he was just being an idiot. He sat in the back of the class all the way by the window so he could always see the interaction between the both of them.

Jake 's friend, Devin, turned to greet Mariah with a lazy grin,"Hey, you busy tonight?" The message he was trying to send was obvious and not at all around the bush. There seemed to be no embarrassment written across his face as he asked. Jake frowned to himself knowing that he had to be making an advance on his girlfriend but turned away to ignore it.

She did a double-take once she had approached the man that her father had been standing next to. Even though he looked older than her, Lilly could help but feel a little nervous from the attraction. "Uh, yes. It's nice to meet you, too, Marcus. I hope you take care of my father." Once their hands met, she found that he was looking straight into her eyes. She could no longer keep the eye-contact and immediately regretted looking away from him.

Mariah rolled her eyes when she heard Devin's words. "Yea i'm having sex with this guy who isn't you." She replied. She looked away as she heard Devin's friends snicker. Mariah didn't want to deal with Devin today. It was bad enough that Jake was being worse than he usually was.

Marcus smiled, "Oh i keep him in line." He joked. Lilly's dad laughed softly with Marcus, "Come Marcus let me show you around." He said. Marcus smiled at Lilly, "It was nice meeting you." He said. He walked off with her father and listened as he spoke.

Jake heard snickers from his friends which meant Devin was rejected. Although, he already knew that it was going to happen. Devin turned around in his seat starting to feel the embarrassment of being rejected. "Serves him right." He muttered to himself before turning back to the front of the classroom as the horror was over. As the teacher came in, the class started to settle down.

Lilly laughed appreciating the humor that Marcus had adding that to the attraction she felt. "Enjoy the party." She told him when he had walked away with her father. Sighing, she resigned to the table near the fruit punch as everyone mingled. Since she usually was with her father, Lilly was talking to people all night but this time he was with Marcus leaving her with nothing to do.

Mariah was relieved when her finally class was over that day. She walked to her car, opening the door. Mariah put her things in the back then walked into her house. She could tell nobody was there. Mariah walked up to her room and laid on the bed for a moment, texting her friends. She wondered what jake was doing.

Marcus got away from Lilly's father as he talked to an older couple. He walked over, taking a seat next to Lilly,"You always sit by yourself at these things?" He asked. He figured he would make conversation because he really didn't know anyone there.

Once he was dismissed, Jake met up with his friends before telling them that his parents needed him home. They thought it was a little odd that he was obeying his parents but they let him go nonetheless. His friends were too preoccupied with other things to worry about Jake's business. Instead of going back to his house, Jake went over to Mariah's and texted her that he was outside.

Lilly saw that Marcus was approaching her and sat up a little straighter in her chair without realizing it. Smiling at him, she replied,"Haha, no. Usually, I am glued to my father's side but you took that honor today." She felt a little happy that he had decided to talk with her instead of anyone else.

Mariah looked at her phone seeing Jake texted her. She ran her fingers through her hair then walked downstairs. Mariah opened her front door, looking at him. "Have fun ignoring me today?" She asked, a little frustrated with him. She let her hand rest on the door as she looked at him.

Marcus looked at her, "Well you can have that back because he talked a lot." He teased, "I get enough of that at work." He said. Marcus smiled then took a sip of his beer. He was ready to leave, but being here was better than an empty house or bar.

"No, but I did have fun seeing the look on Devin's face when you rejected him." He grinned at her wanting to relieve the slight tension between the two of them. Jake leaned down and kissed her on the lips. It was hard for him to ignore her during the day but there was just no way he was going to be able to face his friends.

Lilly definitely did not want the space next to her face back despite it keeping her busy. "I dread this party every year. It's the same people talking about the same things." She sighed as she drank some of the fruit punch since she was still underaged. "I was surprised when he said you were his business partner. When he told me that he had a new one, I thought he was talking about someone much older."

Mariah kissed him back and looked at him, "Why do you make everything a joke?" She whispered. She let him in then closed the doors. "Why won't you tell your friends about us? It's not like it's a big deal Jake." She said. Mariah knew she was being pushy lately, but she just wanted him to treat her the same as he did when they were alone.

Marcus laughed softly, "Everyone says that. I just got a head start on the whole marketing thing." He said. He smiled at her then finished his beer. He looked forward as her dad made his way to another couple. He looked down at his hand seeing his wedding ring. He still wore it even though his wife was no longer with him.

Jake walked inside of the house but paused to let her know,"Babe, I'm just trying to make you laugh. You know I hate seeing you upset." He sighed when she brought up his friends since she knew the answer already. "It is a big deal. These guys are my friends. It isn't the right time to tell them yet." It wasn't really a big deal anyway since it wasn't like his feelings for her had changed. "Even if I don't tell them, I will still love you."

"Oh, you got lucky then." She noted since he got into marketing a lot earlier than other people had the chance. Following his gaze, Lilly saw the wedding ring on his ring finger and felt her heart drop. He was married. Looking down at the ground, she didn't question it since it was personal and the ring did the talking.

Mariah leaned against the door looking at him, "Fine." She finally said. She wasn't in the mood to get into a big fight tonight. Mariah looked up at him as she placed her hands on the door behind her. She wished she could have a normal relationship like the rest of her friends.

Marcus looked at Lilly, "What's wrong?" He asked, feeling she was upset. "If i'm boring you i can go." He said. He had a habit of doing that. He would either make the person bored or get in a fight. It seemed to be his trend lately.

Jake walked closer to her as he placed his hand gently against her cheek, "Hey, smile for me. Show me the smile I love?" If there was one thing he definitely loved about her and that was her smile. He felt like her smile could make him feel at ease. He kissed the top of her head wanting to enjoy their time together without worrying about anything else.

"O-Oh, nothing." She immediately replied not wanting him to know that had been saddened by the fact that he was married. "No, that's not it! Really." She twiddled her thumbs for a moment before glancing over at Marcus. "I hope you don't mind my asking... How long have you been married? I noticed you were staring at your wedding ring before."

Mariah looked at him and smiled when he kissed her head. She could never stay mad at him and thats why she couldn't bring herself to break up with him. She hugged him then looked up at him, "What do you want to do?" She asked.

Marcus looked at his ring then back at her, "I'm not married." He said. "She um..... She passed away two years ago." He said. He looked down then back at her and smiled a little. He didn't want to be a downer.

Jake wrapped his arms around her in return and smiled as he saw hers. "Anything. I came here to spend time with you which is done with whatever we do." He was happy that she had put the topic to rest. Jake wasn't sure what he would have done if she had pursued it.

"Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. I shouldn't have pried into your business. Ugh, I told myself I shouldn't have and now I brought up bad memories. I am so, so sorry." Lilly rambled out a plethora of apologies as she felt horrible. This is why she should have said out of his business. She just wanted to keep the conversation going.

Mariah thought for a moment, "You wanna watch a movie or something?" She asked. She laced their fingers together as she looked up at him. She liked watching movies and cuddling with Jake.

Marcus shook his head, "It's fine Lilly you don't have to apologize." He said. He didn't want her to feel bad about asking a question. Marcus sighed as he looked around the room.

"Sure, no chick flicks though. I did not like The Devil Wears Prada last time." He stated never wanting to go back to that movie again. Jake wasn't even sure how Brooke had persuaded him to sit through the movie. The whole time he just wanted to blow his brains out.

Slowly, Lilly nodded her head registering that he was widowed since his wife died. She couldn't help but feel a little bit better knowing he was no longer married. It was horrible for her to believe it but that was true. She wasn't sure what to ask him as she settled upon looking out at her father greeting other people. It was nice to just sitting in the sidelines for once.

Mariah looked at him, "Oh sure act like you don't like it." She teased. "You can pick the movie this time." She said. She walked into the living room, sitting on the couch. Mariah watched as he looked through the movies, "You want something to drink?" She asked.

Marcus leaned back against his seat, "So Lilly what do you do for fun?" He asked. Marcus looked at her and casually let his arm rest on the back of his seat out of habit.
