Well I think I'll just stick to the "coming home from college for the first time" idea, so pretty much any location works for me. Unless the plane is headed somewhere like Micronesia...

They aren't trying hard enough to find it, seriously. File

I reckon a pretty basic country-to-country would work. Even if we do UK to US, that could work. I think there are stopovers on a UK to US flight though, so who knows. Anyone else got any other suggestions?

I'll get started on my character when I get in from work tonight. I've had a pretty action-packed week, so apologies for not being on and replying as quickly!

Well actually there are flights that go straight from London to California (I've been to the airport five times in the last thirty days picking people up from Iran lol). So I'm pretty sure we could do flights from there to any part of the US without anyone saying anytbing

Ooh, a flight from the UK to the US would be great. It could be going well for a while and as soon as it's like across the ocean and it's just all water, everything could happen!

Hey all, the ideas so far sound great. And so sorry for the late replies. My net has been completely spazzing out. >. < I think it can hold up for now. And in the future, if I go M.I.A. for a bit, it's because of my net.

Wicked, UK to US it is! That gives everyone a bit of expertise on the countries as well, which is nice. I'm assuming it'd be London Gatwick because from my knowledge, that's the airport that everyone flies from. I don't know that 100% though. I'm from Scotland, we fly from Prestwick or Glasgow. Shifty We can always make up details a little anyway, but I'd rather have it as authentic as possible.

Raymond, don't worry about it. I know that feeling, my internet used to be god-awful. University work is kicking my arse right now anyway so I might not be as active as usual for the remainder of the month.

So I think I'm going to go with my character being law enforcement of some kind, just going on a holiday with family. I decided against business because I know diddly squat about business and I write too many cocky musician types as it is. Shifty

Well while I don't know much about European airports because I've never been around those parts, I know about a few American airports that I've visited several times. SFO in San Francisco (my hometown, yo), LAX in Los Angeles (I consider this my other hometown because I'm there so often), JFK in New York, and OGG in Kahalui (Maui, Hawaii). So yeah we could do one of those places or somewhere completely different, but I don't know very much about the rest of the world from personal experience haha

If we did the flight going from LAX to Heathrow, direct, it'll be a 10hr flight. The day that I'm looking at (Friday, 27 June, 2014) has a flight that leaves LAX at 16:45 and arrives in London at 11:15, so it's an overnight flight which could be the perfect time for this hijack to take place.

That's plenty of time for stuff to go down, definitely. I say we go with that. Has anyone ever been in Heathrow? I've never been in any UK airport in my lifetime (let's discount Prestwick because it's a dump) so yeah. I've never actually been on a plane either so I'm going to need a lot of research in that respect. tehe

I've been to Manchester airport when I went to Barcelona with my school, so I did a bit of research and from LAX, on the 27 June, there doesn't seem to be any direct ones to Manchester from LAX; however, if they boarded at New York Newark International at 19:30 there's an overnight flight that goes directly to Manchester airport that gets in at 07:40.

Hmm. The only airport I actually know anything about is Prestwick and that's because my uncle works there as a fireman. I know a tiny bit about Gatwick from research though, so I could probably research any airport to an extent where I know enough about it to write about it.

I'd assume that airports wouldn't be too different and that what I remember from Manchester could apply to Heathrow, but we could have them board at Manchester?

Yeah, that could work too. It won't be as busy either, I think that security at all of the London airports is double that of other UK airports or something, as well.

Oh yeah, probably. I mean, it is London after all, the capital city and the most likely place a terrorist would probably strike.

    @ ewok
I couldn't find any direct flights from LAX to Manchester, although there were some that started at LAX and went to another airport in America (like the New York Newark International airport) before doing the flight to Manchester, if that's what we want to do.

Well we could always make up a flight as well, I don't think anyone will criticize us for having a flight that doesn't exist

I think that's a great idea. It'll be awesome to start from scratch. That way, no one can chastise us for getting information incorrect.

(Apologies, I've been bogged down with uni work again and totally forgot I had to reply)

So making our own flight up, we all settled on that? I don't mind either way, Kayleigh's stopover flight could work as well. I'd rather have someone knowledgeable on both airports when we begin so using LAX and Manchester as our finish and start points is good with me.

My character is going to be a UK police detective heading to LA for a family holiday. I still don't have much else aside from the fact that he's going to be in his late thirties / early forties and has two little girls.

Own flight is fine with me. And gosh, a police detective? Is he going to be overweight? That's just the image in my head I get of a police detective from the UK. XD

Yup. I'm leaning more towards early forties, slightly overweight and balding. I wanted him to enjoy coffee as well but I think that's a little too stereotypical. XD
