Love Conquers All

Jim looked at Katie in confusion wondering what she could have meant by that, "you're not a mess Katie, you're just stressed" he patted her hand gently. "Okay, so how about you have dinner at my house tonight? You can meet by daughter, she's a sweet kid, you'll like her. And it's his loss he doesn't know what he's given up."

When he patted her hand, Katie held his hand in comfort. She looked to him when he spoke about her coming to dinner. She nodded, liking that idea. "I like that. I'd love to come over for dinner." She said as she wiped away her tears. She was so lucky that she did at least have Jim to look to.

Jim smiled, "great I'll let Barbara know she won't mind, any thing you can't eat?" He asked he didn't want her getting sick. He quickly emailed his daughter about Katie, now he had mentioned her before and she seemed interested in meeting Katie,

Katie shook her head. "No, I'm actually good with anything." She smiled as she held his hand, not wanting to let his hand go. She was kind of excited about this now. "Sounds wonderful!" She exclaimed as she sat there. She then looked to him. "Do you think we could go for a little walk?" She asked.

Jim drove for ten minutes and pulled into his drive way and parking his car. Looking over to Katie he smiled politely, "sure, Barbara isn't here yet she'll be prepping dinner and everything, we can go for a walk sure," he got out his car and helped Katie out. "Let me drop off all my things first.."

Katie looked to him and nodded. She watched him gather his things to put inside. She got out of the car and pulled off her shirt, revealing a white tank top that hugged her baby bump perfectly. It was pretty obvious that she was pregnant when you saw this little bump. She ran her fingers through her hair as she waited on him.

Jim turned around and smiled noticing Katie's baby bump. It was cute to say the least, he walked over after locking up ad placed his keys in his pocket. "Let's go" he smiled.

Katie smiled when he walked over to her. She began walking with him, staying pretty close as they walked. While they walked, Katie had put her phone on silent so there was no distractions, just her relaxing with some wonderful company. Looking at her bump once again, Katie looked to Jim with a slightly serious look on her face. "Jim." She said softly. "I know this is so abrupt... but could I count on you if I need help?" He asked kindly.

Jim felt a connection with Katie and he enjoyed their conversationa and he hoped she did too. He looked over to Katie snd nodded, "of course, you can count on me for anything, " he was walking alongside Katie. He looked at his phone and messaged his daughter.

Katie looked at him and smiled, almost wanting to cry when he said that she could count on him for anything. Without any hesitation she hugged him tightly, but being cautious of her bump. "Jim I really don't know what I'd do without you." She said as she hugged him. She almost didn't want to let go.

Jim chuckled and hugged her back, rubbing her back gently, he caught a wiff of her perfume. It was Chanel, he knew that because his daughter had the same one. It was nice. "I'm suse you'd be fine, you're a strong and independent woman, you can do anything but in here if you need anything "

Katie slowly pulled back from the hug and looked to him, listening to his kind words. She smiled as he called her independent and strong. That really meant a lot to her, considering she didn't feel like that. But she felt that if Jim thought that then it must be pretty true. "Thanks Jim." She said and kissed his cheek. She then started walking more, enjoying this relaxing time. As they walked, Katie placed a hand on her bump, rubbing it as they walked. "So I guess this means I'm not allowed to go out in the field anymore...huh." She laughed lightly.

Jim was enjoying the time he was spending with Katie even though he probably not be. He was her boss, these feelings that he was developing had got to go away. He looked at Katie and chuckled, "yes, you can't be on the field anymore but you can work until you're seven or eight months then you can take off for maternity leave but I can have them extend that for you if you'd like.."

Katie shook her head. "You don't need to extend the maternity leave. You'll need me back as soon as possible." She joked. "You don't know how to probably function without me." She laughed as she continued their walk. "We'll say eight months." She said. "But to be honest, I think I could hold out at least till I'm eight and a half months." She commented as they walked. She had always had feelings for Jim, but sheltered them away considering the fact that she was married, but also considering the fact that he was her boss. She didn't care at this point, she liked Jim and felt like she needed him at the moment.

Jim laughed outnloud, something he doesn't done in awhile, "that's true, I can't function without you" he was half serious. He looked at her, "well, I'm extending it because the baby will need you more than I eill, I'm not completely incompetent " Jim laughed.

Katie smiled, hearing him laugh out loud. She loved it when he laughed because that meant he was in a really good mood and relaxed for once. She shook her head when he made the executive decision to extend it. "No, that's unnecessary, we can work things out but we do not need to extend my leave." She looked at him, serious. "Listen, we still have time so we don't have to discuss that right now." She kept walking with him for a while, and at one point, reached for his hand without thinking.

Jim smiled and shrugged his shoulders, "whatever younssy, but when the time comes around I'll convince you to take the extended leave. .. hopefully. " He looked down at their hands he smiled. Jim didn't want to make her feel weird so he fid Mt say anything he just held her hand as they walked. His feelings for Katie were getting deeper and he wasn't sure why.

After a while, Katie looked to Jim. still holding his hand and smiled. "I think we should probably be going back soon." She suggested. She slowly turned around and started heading back to the house with him. Her mind filled with the many different things she had coming up in the next months and such. She said nothing just thought about things.

Jim nodded, "Barbara just messaged me, she started making dinner hope you like Pasta." He walked back with Katie and wondered what she was thinking about, "you all right? You got kinda quiet"
