River nodded, "I know, but it's gonna make things hard for you." He said, frowning. He hated that it was getting hard for her already. "I'll do what i can though." He said as he got up and started to get changed for practice. He grabbed his gym back and looked at her, "I will meet you down there okay." He said, touching her knee before he walked out.
Skylar watched him leave but she sighed and moved to stand up. She got ready for practice quickly, though she felt nervous about this practice. It bothered her that Travis might have recognized her and she didn't like knowing whether he had for sure or not. On top of that, she worried he'd make the team and, then, she'd have to try even harder to avoid him finding out. With a frown, she headed out and to the field.
River sighed when he saw Travis get ready for their scrimmage. He immediately realized when playing that Travis was a dirty player. River frowned as the boy ran into him. His eyes narrowed and he got up. River came running at Travis with the ball, taking Travis out, knocking him to the ground hard. Marcus stopped, "Oh shit." He said, seeing Travis laying on the ground in pain. River scored then looked back at the guy. He didn't do it for Skylar. He did it out of pure anger for the guy.
Skylar wasn't sure what had happened. She'd been mostly blocking others from getting to River, but she paused when everybody else seemed to stop and rush to Travis. Skylar watched with confusion but, instead of going to Travis, she headed over to River. "What happened?" she asked quietly, not understanding. Everybody was crowded around Travis and she couldn't see him or anything, so she wasn't sure if he was injured or if he had gotten knocked out or something.
River looked at her, "I plowed him over." He said, watching. "He started it and he's just not as good as me.' He said, crossing his arms. River had an attitude, but he was nice to Skylar. Anyone that wasn't his friends he was not as nice to.
Skylar blinked but glanced over to the crowd for a moment, though she chewed on her lip. "Do you think he's okay?" she asked after a moment. There seemed to be plenty people concerned for him and part of Skylar didn't want to admit that she was worried as well.
River sighed, "I don't know." He said as he sat down on the grass. He looked over at the crowd as Marcus came back. "He broke his knee." He said, sitting down next to River. River shook his head, as they had people come to get Travis off the field.
Skylar watched quietly, though she turned her attention back to River. "You're not going to get in trouble for it, are you?" she asked quietly, hoping that wouldn't be the case. It wasn't River's fault that things had gotten a little out of hand, after all.
River shook his head, "No he fell wrong. I ran into you like that the other day and you didn't hurt your leg." He said, smiling. "That had nothing to do with me. Well him hurting himself didn't anyway." He said.
Skylar offered a small nod but moved to sit down on the other side of him and watched the others quietly. "Does this mean practice is ending for the day?" she asked, "It looks like everybody's leaving."
River nodded, "Yea i guess so." He said as he got to his feet. He walked with her, then changed out of his cleats and grabbed his bag. He sighed as they walked off the field.
After changing into her regular shoes, Skylar followed after River quickly, glancing around as they walked. For a moment, she wondered if everything would be okay. It wasn't the best day, but she was hoping that it would calm down.
River walked into their room and threw his stuff down. "I'm sorry that i did that. I didn't mean to hurt him." He said. He knew that Skylar probably still cared about her ex even if they weren't together.
Skylar blinked and glanced over at River upon hearing his apology, though she shrugged slightly. "It's not your fault," she assured him, "Like you said, he fell wrong. That's not on you."
River nodded, "I know. I just don't want you to get in trouble." He said, smiling. He kind of liked having her around. He sighed as he laid back on his bed.
"He's not really that bad of a person, though," Skylar told him with a small shrug. "I mean, we broke up because we grew apart. It wasn't even a bad breakup. He'd have no reason to try to get me in trouble or anything, I'm sure."
River laid back on the bed, "Well that's good." He said, looking over at her. "So you really cut off your hair for this?" He asked, shaking his head. "You are definitely committed I will give you that. I know a lot of girls that would never think of doing that." He said.
