When We Were Young

Claire laughed shaking her head at him and sighed before taking the tokens and trying her best to aim them at the correct holes. She got two in and all the others missed. She bit her lip shaking her head. "Well, I got two, that's more than I've ever gotten before. Next time you'll have to play soccer with me." She teased him smiling softly. She nodded and said, "Alright." She walked gently and smiled feeling the sea breeze and sighed just relaxing as she felt it and looked up seeing him stop and smiled and sat down. "What's so special about this place?" She asked him softly tilting her head to the side, trying to keep her hair from blowing all over her face from the breeze. Looking around for a moment, she looked up at the stars again and gave a small smile and just closed her eyes again.

Jake shook his head and said, "Nothing, I've just ran out of ideas at this point. " He laughed and explained what some of tattoos were and then nodded hearing her. "I understand that." He grinned turning to watch the television. Hearing he request, he smirked. "I'm sure I could convince him to give you one. What were you thinking about getting?" He asked her and chuckled softly while watching her. He personally loved his tattoos and thought they represented his character a lot more than words would ever be able to.

Ryan smiled, "Well, It's just far enough away from the boardwalk that you don't have to hear the people and just close enough that it isn't too dark." He said, looking out at the ocean. "I usually come here alone." He said, as he looked up at the sky. "Do you like it?" He asked her. He was hoping that she would like where he had brought her. It was a pretty special place for him. He didn't share it with anyone.

Santana looked at him, "I have an idea of what i want on my forearm." She said. "I will show you later." She said, smiling at him. She was glad that he would help her out. She looked back at the movie and relaxed against the couch. After the movie she found another one and sat with him. "Are you sure you don't want anything to drink or anything like that?" She asked him. The rest of the night they spent time talking and watching movies. She hadn't expected them to get along so well. Santana ended up falling asleep with him on the couch. She opened her head when she heard a knocking on the door. She sat up, rubbing her eyes. She looked over, seeing Jake. Santana got up and walked to the door, opening it. She was surprised to see Julie. "Hey Julie what's wrong?" She asked rubbing her eyes. Julie stared at her, "Did you forget? We are going to get my new shoes today?" She asked. Santana looked at her, "Oh shit yea." She said, laughing. "Hold on." She said. She ran upstairs and started to get ready. Julie walked in, frowning when she seen Jake. She walked over and slapped him on the back of the head, waking him up. 'What the fuck are you doing here?" She asked, glaring at him.

Claire smiled softly, "I see that, It's really pretty and secluded technically." She told him before looking at the stars. "It's amazing." She told him nodding when he asked if she liked it. She took her shoes off and left them on the rocks before stepping into the water and laughing because it was warm. She smiled going in to where it was barely touching the edge of her shorts. She turned back and stuck her tongue out at Ryan. "Do you ever go into the water?" She asked him splashing at him gently and smiled. She liked being out here it was peaceful and managed to take the stress away from her and let her just feel like she didn't have to worry about her grades, her family, or anything to do with stress. She liked the way the lights from the boardwalk glistened over the waves as they crashed against the sandy beach. She smiled happily and turned to look at him again, "You should get in. The water is warm." She told him before wading further into the water. She was just happy that the water was warm and felt good against her skin. She wished she had worn her swimsuit underneath her clothing.

Jake nodded, "My suggestion, is tell them a vague picture of what you want and then let the artist give you the rest." He smiled and heard him and blinked and gave a nod. He laughed and said, "This movie is so stupid." He didn't understand it but that was probably just him being him. Hearing her question, he shook his head and said, "Nah, I'm good." He smiled at her and yawned and ended up falling asleep after she already had. She ended up falling asleep on his shoulder with his head against the back of the couch. He didn't wake up when he heard a knocking on the door. He jumped awakened by the feeling of getting smacked on the back of the head. 'What the fuck?" He said glaring at Julie. "Damn, she asked me to watch movies with her last night." He said. "Not that it's any of your business anyways." He told her. "Don't fucking touch me." He told her eyes glaring at her darkly. He was not going to be a victim to her abuse. He could stop her, but he didn't want to hurt her.

Ryan nodded, "Yea i do sometimes." He said. He got up and pulled his shirt off. He took his shoes off then walked into the water with her. He was glad that he wore shorts. He knew that it was likely that he would get wet though. He smiled at her, "The water is really nice tonight." He said as he felt the water against his skin.

Julie frowned at him, "It is my business." She said, crossing her arms. Santana came downstairs and smiled at them. "Alright let's go." She said. She looked at Jake, seeing that he was ready to leave. "Sorry i forgot about this." She said smiling. Santana walked with him, "Let me take your brother home first." She said. She drove Jake home then got out with him and leaned against her car, while Julie pouted in the passenger seat. She smiled at him, "I will talk to you later." She said. She looked up at him, "Text me." She said, kissing his cheek. She smiled as she stepped back and watched him walk away. She got in the car and headed to the store

Claire smiled hearing his words. She watched him take his shirt off and chuckled slightly before smiling at the warmth of the water. She wanted to get in further but knew she was wearing a white top and didn't know how that would go over. She shrugged feeling as though it didn't matter. She walked further in just enjoying the water and turned and splashed him and laughed. "Yes it is." She told him happily sighing softly before turning around and raising an eyebrow at him. She smiled though before splashing him some more.

Jake sighed shaking his head. "How?" He asked her wanting to know how in the world it was her fucking business what he did. He saw Santana and smiled at her gently and said, "Nah, it's alright. I'll just go grafitti some building." He joked, but pretty much knew that that's what he was going to do today. He walked with her and got out of the car once he was home. He smirked softly and nodded hearing him. "Alright." He told her feeling her kiss his cheek. He watched them leave before sighing and getting a shower and then heading out to find trouble to get into.

Ryan smirked as she splashed him, "You really wanna do that?" He asked her, splashing her back. He was surprised when she splashed him back. He splashed her then grabbed her and picked her up and started carrying her deeper into the water. He laughed as he fell backwards, taking her in with him. He smiled at her as they surfaced. He looked at her and splashed her lightly.

Santana came to Julie's house that night walking in. She smiled as Julie's mom asked her to stay for dinner, "Sure that would be great." She said. She walked up to Julie's room and listened to her talk about some guy she liked. He was more of a jock and definitely Julie's type. She bit her bottom lip lightly, wondering what Jake was doing.

Claire laughed and blinked eyes widening when she heard him, "But of course." She giggled and continued to splash him. Feeling him pick her up she squealed and laughed before she felt him fall backwards taking her with him. She came up sputtering and splashed him in the face shaking her head. She pouted and murmured, "Bully." She teased him before laughing and taking her hair down letting it fall down to surround her face. She was just glad she wore waterproof makeup. She smiled at him through her lashes and then messed up his hair and swam a little further out. She was also glad she had remember to set her phone in her shoes. "What if my phone had been in my pocket?" She questioned him a smile set onto her face.

Jake got home after them and laughed even though he had a nicely sized bruse on his cheek bone. His mother's eyes widened seeing him and started to yell. He sighed and said, "The other guy started it." "Why did you even bother!?" His mother screamed. "Would you rather I let the guy beat me to a pulp?" He asked her. At that, she sighed and said, "No. Come here." He sighed and hugged his mom back before getting a bag of frozen vegetables and set it on his face. His dad saw his face and whistled. "Damn." Jake grinned and said, "Other guy looks worse." His dad nodded his approval.

Ryan swam with her, "Well, I would have owed you a new phone." He said, laughing. He relaxed in the water then swam with her a little longer. Ryan looked up at the sky, "Man i love living near the ocean." He said. He looked over at her and smiled. "Do you like it here?" He asked. He really wanted to live on the beach, but those places were really hard to find.

Santana heard the commotion downstairs as Julie walked ahead of her. Julie sighed, "Get your ass kicked again?" She asked as she sat at the table. Santana looked at Jake, "What happened?" She asked as she stood next to him. She was actually concerned about him, while Julie was making fun of him. Santana slowly pulled the frozen vegetables away from his face, seeing the bruise, "Not gonna lie, it looks awful." She said, smiling as she let him set the bag against his face again. Julie looked over at her mom, seeing that she was curious about Santana and Jake. "Oh yea Santana is making a the mistake of her life." Julie said. Her mom glared at her, "Julie." She scolded her.

Claire smiled and laughed shaking her head, "True, I suppose." She smiled noticing how he relaxed in the water. She knew she would be cold when she got out of the water because she was wet. She nodded and said, "I do too." She heard him and looked over and murmured, "I love the water, but... I prefer the cold and the snow and how beautiful it is at night with the transformers light shining over it." She told him before shrugging. "I like the ocean, but snow has my heart." She murmured. "I suppose 'm just odd." She laughed before splashing him again.

Jake laughed hearing Julie and said, "Nope, the other guy did." He told her. "He called you a skank and I told him to shut up because you were my sister. He shoved me and told me you were just some stuck up brat , and then he hit me. He only got to hit me once." He murmured before looking down at Santana feeling him take the frozen vegetables off his face and smiled at her, "Hello. " He smirked and shrugged. Hearing Julie he flipped her off and said, "After I just protected your honor too." He shook his head.

Ryan shook his head, "No thank you. I hate snow." He said, laughing. "It's too cold and it makes a mess." He said. He looked over at the beach then looked back at her. "Don't bring anyone to my secret spot." He teased her. He really didn't care, but he really wanted to keep this to himself and her. Ryan moved to get out of the water, shivering as the cold air hit his skin. "Damn it's cold." He said, looking back at her. "It's gonna be worse on the bike. We might wanna dry off for a bit." He said. He helped her out of the water, seeing how cold she was. "I mean if you want i can buy you a dry shirt. You have to be freezing." He said as he rubbed her arms.

Santana looked at Julie, not liking the way she was treating Jake. She decided to change the subject, "So what's for dinner?" She asked, looking at their mom. Marie looked at Santana, "My famous lasagna." She said, getting up from the table to check on it. Santana looked at her, "Ooo...and cheese garlic bread?" She asked. She smiled as Marie nodded, "Yes! What a perfect night to eat here." She said, laughing softly. She looked over at Jake, then her gaze wandered to his tattoos on his arms.

Julie looked at Jake, "I'm sure you made up that story so mom will side with you as usual." She said. She looked over at Santana when she got excited about lasagna, "Yes the elephant tranquilizer dinner." She said, laughing. "It has like five different cheeses in it." She said. Santana smiled, "If that is the way i'm gonna go out, so be it." She said, laughing softly.

Claire laughed and shrugged, "I love it." She murmured and chuckled hearing him, "So do people." She shrugged. She heard him and blinked, "Why would I want to do that? It just means I can come here now." She told him smiled. She stood to get out and shivered heavily and couldn't stop shivering and muttered, "Good god." She nodded hearing him say they might want to wait for a bit. "Okay." She told him. She took his hand as she got out of the water with him before letting go. "I am pretty cold, but I have enough clothes." She laughed and felt him rub her arms and smiled gently. She couldn't help the shivers that came over her body. "I mean I'll accept taking your jacket for the night." She laughed remembering that he had worn his leather jacket and that thing had to be warm.

Jake looked up hearing his mom and smiled happily, "Yes! carbs carbs and more carbs." He laughed and winced at his cheek again. "Okay so being excited hurts." He laughed and blinked hearing Julie. "Actually I wasn't lying. Believe it or not I stick up for you a lot. Why do you think no one fucks with you at school?" He asked before giving her a sweet smile and shrugged. "If anyone is gonna mess with you, it's gonna be me." He teased before sitting down on a stool and heard her put down the lasagna and said, "Hush your sinning mouth! Her lasagna is the work of a goddess!" Their mom laughed and said, "Only because you eat like three horses." He shrugged and said, "I'm not 300 pounds yet, so it's alright." He told her grinning, his dimples coming out to show as he talked with his mom.

Ryan nodded, "Yea sure." He said, grabbing his jacket from off the rocks. He handed it to her and smiled. Ryan pulled on his dry shirt then shivered slightly. He sat on the rocks, then looked over at her, "Are you going to be alright? I'd hate you to get sick for you game tomorrow." He said. He knew that she really liked soccer and seemed pretty dedicated to it. He liked that about her. Ryan looked out at the water, then turned his attention back to her.

Santana looked at Julie, "I guess me and Jake are going to have to get fat together and you can just push us out the door." She teased her friend as she leaned against the counter next to Jake. Julie looked over at them, "I would leave Jake and save you." She said, smirking as she grabbed a water from the fridge. She sat down at the table again and looked at her mom as she cooked. Santana looked at Jake, loving out his dimples came out when he smiled. She liked to seem him happy and she just wanted to love on him. She looked over as the lasagna was set on the counter, "Okay just give me a fork." She said, smiling at his mom who laughed softly.

Claire smiled happily and took his jacket and put it around her shoulders and blinked seeing how much bigger he was than she was and laughed. She smiled and nodded, "Oh, yeah, the cold doesn't affect my immune system much to be honest, just makes me shiver." She told him smiling at him. "You're a teddy bear, you know that?" She told him poking his cheek gently her fingers were colder than her arms. She smiled "Why aren't you nice to everyone?" She asked him looking out at the waves and watched them wash up on shore. She let herself dry out with the wind and closed her eyes lightly just sighing happily.

Jake laughed and said, "Fat people are awesome. I mean being fat would be cool as long as it doesn't affect your health." He shrugged. He looked down at Santana while she spoke and rolled his eyes hearing Julie and muttered, "Fuck off." He looked over at Santana making an obnoxoius but funny face towards her. He loved his mom's cooking especially when he was just smacked in the damn face. He poked her stomach and said, "What'd you do today?" He saw the lasagna and smelled the air happily rolling his eyes to the back of his eye sockets and muttered, "Oh yeah. This is my kind of crack." His mother just shook her head at her son and said, "I'm glad you don't do actual crack."

Ryan smiled at her words, then shrugged, "I'm not gonna let people think they can take advantage of me." He explained. "I don't usually let people in like this though." He said. Ryan bit his bottom lip lightly as he watched her close her eyes. "Thanks for coming with me tonight." He said. Ryan waited til she dried off then walked with her towards his bike. He smiled at her, "You are great you know that." He said.

Santana smiled as he poked her, "Just went shopping." she said. She took the plate that was handed to her then put the food on it. She sat down with Julie and looked down at the food. Julie looked over at her mom, "Well that is still up for debate. He could be doing crack." She said, glaring at him. Santana frowned as her friend's words. She was going to spend time with Jake and let Julie sneak out with her date. Sure her parents weren't in on the plan, but Santana figured she could help.

Claire laughed hearing him and said, "People don't take advantage of me. At least, I don't think they do." She smiled softly. "You should. People aren't all bad." She told him shrugging. "Hmm, I'm glad I did. I have fun even though you shoved me in the sea." She told him laughing. She cuddled into his jacket and stood up and walked with him towards his bike. SHe heard him and looked up at him surprised, "Well, thank you." She told him before kissing his cheek lightly having to stand on her tippy toes. "You aren't that bad yourself." She murmured before waiting for him to get on his bike and then she got on behind him hugging onto him.

Jake nodded hearing him, "Fun shit." He said. He took his own plate and duh into his food. "I'm not doing crack. If I was, I would be doing stupid shit like actually being nice to you." His mom couldn't help the laugh that came out of her mouth. He grinned and snickered. He ate his food quickly before putting the frozen vegetables back on his cheek. The guy had managed to miss his eye and just make a bruise on his cheek bone. He finished up and did the dishes for his mom. He was only sweet to his mom and that was because she was nice to him.

He drove her to her house, then parked his bike and waited for her to get off. He looked over at her, "I guess i will see you tomorrow." He said. He was going to go to that game so she didn't have to feel afraid of Drew.

Santana laughed softly at his words. Santana watched as Julie ran off after she was done eating. Santana got up and walked over to Jake, handing her the plate. She watched as he began to wash her plate, "Thank you." She said looking up at him. She waited til he was done then grabbed the frozen vegetables and carefully pressed them to his cheek. "You really get in that fight over Julie?" She asked him now that they were alone. Santana stepped closer to him, "Do you want to hang out later?" She asked, "I'm staying with Julie tonight." She added.

Claire smiled and nodded, "I understand that. People can be so mean and heartless." She murmured softly before holding onto him tightly as he drove to her house. She smiled at the wind happy that his jacket was making it less cold for her. She got off gently and nodded, "See ya. I hope you'll be cheering for me." She told him laughing before waving and going into her house. She had already gotten upstairs when she remembered she had his jacket on and that it wasn't hers. Oh well. She'd give it to him tomorrow. She got a shower and then climbed into bed falling asleep. She awoke in the morning and got dressed and packed extra stuff for her game tonight. She then managed to get her self to school on time. She waited until second block and then returned his jacket to him and said, "How was your night?" She smiled softly.

Jake rolled his eyes at his sister and snickered when his mom laughed so hard water came out of her nose. He just laughed happily and wasehed the dishes and looked over hearing her say thank you. "My mom cooked, might as well wash the dishes for her." He said and smiled. He finished up and wiped his hand off before feeling him and looked over feeling her do so. "Yeah. He called her a slut and then commenced to calling you both that and at that point I told him he was just a little shit and that he was just angry you guys turned him down. He clocked me, so I beat the shit out of him." He told her. He watched her, pushing a piece of hair away from her face gently, "Yeah." He murmured. "Why?" He asked laughing.

Ryan was standing at his locker when Claire came up to him. He smiled as he took his jacket back and nodded. “It was an okay night. I watched some tv and went to bed.” He said, shrugging. “Did you sleep alright?” He asked. Ryan walked with her to their first class which they luckily had together. He sat down at his desk and pulled out his books. He was kind of glad that he was doing better in school. Ryan looked up as the teacher started to teach.

Santana smiled, “For reasons that I can’t say at this moment.” She said, laughing. She didn’t want to tell him about Julie until she was out of the house. Santana hugged him and closed her eyes. She was glad that he stuck up for her and Julie. She felt more relaxed when she felt his arm go around her. “I better go check on Julie.” She said, slowly pulling away from him. “I will talk to you later.” She said before she backed away and went upstairs. Santana sat on Julie’s bed as she watched her get ready to leave. She looked at her phone then looked up at her friend. Everyone was asleep except Jake, but Julie wasn’t worried about him. Once Julie was out of the house Santana texted Jake to make sure he was still away. Still wanna hang out with me? She sent it and bit her bottom lip lightly.

Claire noticed his friends kind of just glare at her, but she ignored it knowing some people in the school weren't fond of her because she finished her work so quickly and never got in trouble. She nodded and said, "I crashed when I got home to be honest." She murmured messing a necklace around her neck that hung just a little bit below the hollow fo her throat. She sat down at her own desk and doodled as the teacher spoke. When the teacher asked her what she had been talking about she told her and the teacher sighed, "Pay attention, Claire." Claire frowned before nodding gently but once she was back to lecturing, she went back to doodling not really caring what the teacher said at this moment. She was trying to mentally prepare herself for the game tonight. She heard the bell ring and stood up collecting her things.

Jake laughed and nodded. "Alright I guess." He said a little confused but didn't ask any questions. He felt her hug him and smiled hugging her back with his free arm using the other to try and get the swelling on his face down. He nodded hearing her, "Alright." He told her before chilling with his mom for a bit telling her more about the fight. He heard his parents go to bed and just watched television on the couch. Honestly, he was more interesting in playing the game on his phone than watching whatever show that was on the t.v. He saw the message and sent back Yep. He knew he shouldn't get her mixed up with him, but she intrigued him a lot.

Ryan caught up to her in the hallway, “I see you are becoming a rebel.” He teased her. He walked with her to her locker, “So are you excited for your game tonight?” He asked. He could tell that she seemed tense and he was hoping to make her feel better. “I think you are going to do amazing.” He said, with a small smile. He went to his locker and grabbed his books for his next class.
After school was over he went to the soccer field with one of his friends and sat on the bleachers. He laughed at something his friend said. He looked out, seeing Claire. He frowned as he seen Drew a few benches down from him.

Santana smiled and went to find Jake. She sat on the couch next to him, “Miss me?” She asked him. She turned her attention to the tv. She bit her bottom lip lightly as she tried to figure out what was going on the show. She looked over at Jake, “How’s your face?” She asked him. She scooted closer to him and looked at his cheeks. “It doesn’t look too awful.” She said, softly.
