“You should probably watch where you’re going Vernoica,” Brian snapped. “Would hate for the whole school to see the before photo of you with your old nose.” He knew the vampire had work done because she hated her nose which was actually kind of weird for a vampire and she definitely would get bullied and shamed if anyone ever found out. “Sorry gnome,” Veronica grumbled before she walked into the field with the rest of the cheerleaders. “If Artemis was here we’d probably have a dead vampire on our hands,” Brian mumbled.

Matt watched Vernoica and her group of friends do their pregame routine, glaring at them the entire time they did it. He wanted to rip them all apart because of how mad he was at them. They had no right to treat anyone the way they did. He slid his helmet on, listening to his coach as they began talking, only really paying attention to what plays they were going to start off with. The werewolf was honestly glad the football season ended with this game because he was beyond over being forced to interact with people he hated.

Fae was a bit on edge. She had a bad feeling, and she couldn’t quite figure out why. She stood up and cheered when the home team scored, watching Matt the entire time. He was such a good player, and it was so unfortunate that he ended up hating the sport because of the people he played with. It was nearing halftime, and there were only a few seconds left on the clock. She kept her eyes on Matt, watching intently. One of Pierce’s friends threw the ball to Matt, and Pierce himself came running over, shoving Matt while he was in mid-air, forcing him to fall on his leg, breaking it. Fae’s eyes widened when he went down, and she could have sworn she heard the cracking of his bone, but it could have been her imagination. She immediately jumped up and ran down the bleachers, jumping off at the end and rushing over to Matt. “Matt!” she called, kneeling down beside him. “Matt, are you okay?” She growled slightly under her breath when she heard Pierce chuckling, never having felt so angry in her entire life.

Brian rushed into the field after Pierce had blind sided Matt. He shoved the other boy hard, grabbing his helmet to keep hold of him and punched him several times in the stomach. He was pissed and wanted to defend someone he considered a friend now and he did it the one way he really knew how to, with violence. “How do you like it,” Brian snarled. “Maybe I should tip your arm off and beat you with it.”

Matt groaned out, pain pulling through his entire body as he tried to process what had just happened. He slowly sat up snarling out loudly from the pain, looking over his shoulder to see Fae by his side and Brian beating the crap out of Pierce. “Let it go Haner,” he shouted. “Just help me off this fucking field.” Matt watched the demon kick Pierce hard in the stomach before he offered Matt a hand up. “Can you two help me walk,” he asked Fae and Brian. “I already have a feeling I need to go to the hospital.” Matt’s coach rushed into the field, having not been paying attention and had been told what happened. He began screaming at Pierce, giving Matt a slight apologetic look as they walked past him.

Fae, with Brian’s help, pulled Matt up and helped him over to the bench. She pulled his helmet off, setting it aside. “How bad does it hurt?” she asked. “On a scale from one to ten?” It was probably a stupid question, but she just wanted to be aware of how badly he was hurting. She looked up when Johnny came rushing over with his phone in his hand.

“I’m calling an ambulance,” Johnny said. He didn’t know how bad it was, so he just figured it would be the easiest to call 9-1-1, and it would be faster that way too. He explained to the lady on the other end what had happened, pacing back and forth. Maybe it was a good thing that Artemis hadn’t come to the game tonight. She definitely would have started something, and the last thing she needed was to get into a fight with the principal already on her case. Speak of the Devil, the principal came onto the field with a microphone, announcing that the game was cancelled and that everyone needed to go home before he walked towards their group.

“I’m going to call your parents to let them know what happened, Matthew,” the principal said. He then turned and grabbed Pierce by the arm, walking away with him.

“I just want to bite my leg off it hurts so bag,” Matt hissed. He kept clenching and unclenching his hands as he tried to keep calm and ignore the pain. He knew ignoring the pain was impossible but if he could hide his discomfort a little he would be just so Fae wouldn’t worry anymore than he knew she already was. “I’ll be fine babe,” Matt stated. The werewolf looked at Brian and gave him a small nod that both teens knew meant thank you for having my back.

Fae raised her hand over Matt’s leg, sprinkling a bit of pixie dust over it like she had when he’d hurt his shoulder. “Is that better?” she asked, gently brushing her fingers through his hair. She wanted to do all she could to keep him calm and to take the pain away. She’d never tried to take away the pain of a broken bone before, only cuts or smaller things like that. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to fully take away his pain, and it made her heart hurt.

Johnny heard the sirens and he put his phone away. “I’ll go tell them we’re here,” he said, running off to get the paramedics so they could come get Matt.

Matt nodded. Fae’s fairy dust had actually lessened the pain which he definitely appreciated. “Are you coming with me to the hospital,” Matt asked. “You don’t have to stay the entire time,” he promised. “At least until my parents show up.” He ran his hands over his face, sighing as the ambulance and the EMTs drove onto the field. They helped Matt into the stretcher, Matt struggling as they did. He felt like an idiot the way he was struggling and essentially hopping on one foot.

“I’m staying with you the whole time,” Fae insisted, not wanting to leave his side. She told the paramedics that she was his girlfriend, and they let her into the back with him. She sat to the side, wishing there was more she could do to help. Honestly, she wished she could go find Pierce and rip him apart. There was no way he could make an excuse that that was an accident when it was so obviously not. “I’m gonna let Artemis know what happened.” She pulled her phone out and texted the other girl.

Matt might have broken his leg, we’re on our way to the hospital.

“I really hope you and Artemis rip that piece of shit apart,” Matt hissed. He climbed into the ambulance and laid in the bed, frowning out in pain as he did. He was absolutely pissed that his leg was broken. He wasn’t even sure how he was going to take Fae to the dance now. “If they don’t clear me to go to the dance I want you to go with Brian,” he stated. He trusted the demon and he didn’t want Fae to just not go if he wasn’t allowed to.

Artemis read Fae’s text and frowned, beyond pissed that Pierce had probably tried something at the game. Was it Pierce or one of his goons?

Fae frowned at Matt’s words. “No, I’m not going to do that,” she said. “I’ll stay home with you.” She couldn’t just go to the dance with Brian while Matt stayed home. It wouldn’t be fair to him. “I can’t just leave you at home, it wouldn’t be right.” She’d feel too guilty and probably wouldn’t have much of a good time anyways. She picked her phone up, replying to Artemis’s text.

Pierce pushed him while he was catching the ball. He landed wrong on it, and I’m sure everyone there heard it snap.

“I know you bought a dress and I want you to have fun,” Matt stated. “I will purposely lock you out of my house and make Brian drag you to homecoming in your pajamas if I have to.” He didn’t want to be a stick in the mud for her and he knew if she stayed home with him he definitely would be.

Its almost like he’s asking for me to murder him at this point. Artemis was absolutely livid that Pierce had hurt Matt the way he had. She knew she needed to teach him a lesson he would never forget.

Fae frowned, sighing heavily. "Fine, I'll go," she said. "But after the dance, I'm going to your house and I'm staying with you, and you can't make me leave." When they got to the hospital, she was forced to stay in the waiting room while they took x-rays of Matt's leg.

Please don't do something you'll regret. He's not worth your time. You'll just get expelled.

“Deal,” Matt grinned. He was beyond relieved Fae had listened to him. The last thing he wanted her to do was be miserable because she wanted to take care of him. He sat still as the doctor took x-rays of his leg, extremely happy they have him something for the pain so when the moved his leg it didn’t hurt at all.

I promise I won’t get expelled.

Did you take the tests yet?

Fae looked up from her phone when she heard someone say Matt’s name, seeing a couple at the desk. She felt her breath hitch in her throat, suddenly feeling very anxious. She hadn’t met Matt’s parents yet and now wasn’t very ideal. But she guessed she had no choice. She stood up and walked over. “Um, hi,” she murmured softly. “I’m Fae, Matt’s girlfriend.” She just hoped they weren’t too upset and blame her for it. She didn’t know if they were those types of parents who didn’t like their child to be in a relationship.

The box they’re in said to do it in the morning so that’s when I’ll do it.

Matt’s mother look at Fae, quickly wrapping her arms around the blonde and hugged her. “I’m so sorry this is how we’re meeting sweetie,” she spoke. “Matt says such nice things about.” Matt’s dad smiled at the blonde, gently tapping his wife’s arm because he knew Fae was probably surprised by the hug. “Honey she doesn’t know how much of a hugger you are yet give her space,” he teased.

Fae felt a wave of relief wash over her, laughing softly at what Matt’s dad said. “It’s okay,” she said. “I’m used to it, my parents are kind of hippies.” She hugged Matt’s mom back before she pulled away. “I don’t know what Principal Wexler told you guys about what happened, but one of Matt’s teammates pushed him. He wouldn’t have been hurt otherwise.” She wanted to make sure that Matt’s parents knew how poisonous Pierce was. She pulled her phone out and quickly sent a text back to Artemis, not wanting to be rude to Matt’s parents. Let me know how it goes. I’m with Matt’s parents right now, I’ll talk to you later.

Johnny walked up to Artemis’s front door, ringing the doorbell. He wasn’t sure if she was aware of what had happened at the game, so she might not be expecting him yet. Honestly, he didn’t even know if she still wanted him over or not. She’d kind of left without saying goodbye earlier and he was worried she was upset with him.

“They said Matt had been injured during the game but not how it happened,” Matt’s mother replied. She growled, extremely pissed someone had purposely hurt her son. “Do you know the name of the boy that hurt my son,” she asked. “Because I’d love to see the school explain away a lawsuit against them for letting that kind of shit happen in the public of an event.”

They’ll love you. Have fun meeting your future in laws. Artemis quickly hid the pregnancy tests when the doorbell rang, peeking through the peephole before she opened it for Johnny. “Is Pierce getting punished for what he did,” she asked.

“His name is Pierce,” Fae said. “He’s on the team with Matt, and he and his friends have been making our lives hell since the beginning of the school year.” She was tempted to tell Matt’s mom about the cult, but she didn’t want to do that without Matt’s permission because it wasn’t really her place to tell his parents. It was his decision, not hers.

“I don’t know,” Johnny said. “Wexler dragged him off the field and that was the last we saw of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was praising him, right now. You know he’s got it out for us. He wouldn’t care if we jumped off a cliff.” He scratched his neck. “Can I come inside? I brought pizza.” He lifted the box of warm pizza into view, smiling at her.

“The principal hasn’t done anything to stop this Pierce boy,” Matt’s father asked. He knew the principal was biased to some kids like his newphew but he was sure his nephew’s name was Grant not Pierce so there had to be some reason he was letting this kind of crap happen. “I’m going to call that bastard back right now,” he snapped. Mr. Sanders walked off further down the hall and used his cellphone to call the principal, wanting a damn good explanation for what was happening.

“I hope Wexler finally mans up and does something,” she mumbled. “Because I’m sure if Matt’s parents wanted to they could sue the school for his injury.” She let Johnny inside and set the pizza he brought with him in the kitchen. “I’ll have a few slices later,” she stated. “I’m still feeling a little queasy.”

Fae frowned as she watched Matt’s dad walk away. She looked back at his mom, sighing softly. “I don’t want to overstep any boundaries, but if you want my opinion, I think Pierce and his friends along with the cheerleaders get preferential treatment,” she said. “They get away with so much, it doesn’t make any sense otherwise.” She pulled her hair away from her face to show Matt’s mom her already bruising cheek. “One of the cheerleaders threw candy at me because she knew I was Matt’s girlfriend, but I’m not on the cheerleading team, and nobody did anything about it. It’s like there’s a hierarchy among the students, and if you aren’t at the top, they don’t care about you. Our friend Artemis almost got raped by another student, and since she’s a human and not ‘valuable’ to him, Principal Wexler gave her out of school suspension and blamed her for it.”

Johnny nodded his head. “I hope they do,” he said. “And I hope Wexler gets what’s coming to him. He deserves to get it up the ass for all the shit he’s put us through, especially you.” He nodded his head. “I’m sorry if you’re so upset because of me. I didn’t mean to bring up any bad feelings after the parade. I should have just kept my mouth shut.” He felt guilty for even mentioning Zack in front of her.
