My Demons. [closed]

Mitch put his gun down beside the chair and sat beside her. "I'm good, you still wanted to chat with me each day right?" he said lightly. He didn't want it to be obvious they'd already seen each other that morning. He sat back watching out at the soldiers going about their day gearing up and heading out into the field. He was trying to keep positive and not write them off as dead. He turned to her, "You wanted to know why I can't go home,' he said softly.

Abby nodded, "Yes every day." She said, smiling. She was surprised when he brought up going home, "Yes i did. Are you going to share you reasoning with me?" She asked him. Abby was glad that he was opening up to her. She knew that getting him to trust her would be a good idea. She was kind of worried that she would get too close to him though.

Mitch nodded softly, "You've probably guessed at part of it, You know that I wasn't around and my parents and Kathy died," he began. He shifted in the seat looking out at the other soldiers, "I fear that if I go home, I won't be here to save them if they need it," he said nodding at the soldiers. It wasn't that Mitch thought he was the only one capable of saving soldiers in distress, pinned down and on the verge of death, it was that Mitch knew he was the only team leader willing to ignore direct orders, to do just that.

He sighed softly and looked back at her, "The other part is, I'm scared that I'm addicted to killing, and if I go home, I might hurt people that don't deserve it," he whispered softly.

Abby looked at him, "Mitch these guys will be fine when you are gone. Sure they won't have someone as great as you around, but they will be able to take care of themselves." She explained. She shook her head, "You aren't addicted to killing. If you were then you would be killing people around here. You have no signs of that." She said, smiling at him. She touched his hand, "You will be fine when the time comes for you to go home. Plus, you don't live far from me so you can always come talk with me." She said.

Mitch nodded listening to her. He wanted to believe she was right, but was still struggling to see it. He smiled and shifted to hold her hand gently, "I'd like that, I think," he said softly. "Maybe we could go surfing together," he added. He was beginning to trust her, it was nice to have someone to talk to, it was like having Kathy back.

Abby nodded, "Oh of course. That would be fun." She said. She hadn't surfed in so long and she knew that Mitch probably missed it. She stared at him, "I have to tell you something, but you can't say anything to anyone." She said. She got up and moved so she was sitting beside of him. "I have to send Jeremy home." she said, looking at one of the guys from his team. She looked back at him, "His last few visits with him haven't been to great and I am worried he is going to get himself killed or someone else." She explained.

Mitch looked at her and nodded, "if you think that's best, I'll support you, he has been missing home," he said understanding it was her job to look after them all mentally. He liked how close she moved to him, he resisted the urge to put his arm around her shoulder. "How do you think he'll handle the news?" he asked softly.

Abby shrugged, "I don't know. I am not the one that tells him. I just put the request in." She said, looking at him. "Do you think it would be vetter if I told him?" She asked. She didnt know if that would make it easier for the guy or not. She assumed that mitch knew more about him than she did.

Mitch shrugged softly, "I'm not sure, If it was me I'd at least want a heads up the you made the request, so I wouldn't feel betrayed, and it didn't come out of the blue," he reasoned.

Abby nodded, "Maybe I will talk to him first then." She said, smiling a little. She figured she would take Mitch's advice. He would know more about these guys than she did. She looked behind them as one of the guys called for him. "I guess you are needed." She said, smiling.

Mitch smiled softly, "Will you be alright here?" he asked as he stood up. He grabbed his gun and prepared to head over to the guy that called for him.

Abby nodded, "Yes I will be just fine. If you need me tonight don't hesitate to stop by." She said, looking up at him. She kind of liked when he spent the night with her. She was so sick of sleeping by herself. Abby got up, "I have some paper work to finish up anyway." She said. She walked away once he did and returned to where she was staying. She sighed as she sat at her desk. She knew that having feelings for a patient was a terrible idea.

Mitch smiled softly and nodded. He was glad she seemed to be going the extra mile for him. He walked over to the guy to find what he wanted. The guy was planning an assault on one of the main strongholds of the enemy forces and was wondering if Mitch's team would be up for assisting the effort, and helping with the plan. Mitch nodded lightly to him, "we shouldn't go ahead until we've run everyone going through the plan and worked out all the kinks, which might take a week," he explained. He wanted to make sure they did this right, and minimized the risk.

Abby sat in her bed that evening, reading her book she had been reading since she got there. She bit her bottom lip lightly as she thought about Mitch, closing her book. She wondered what that guy had wanted him for. She had heard rumors that their team would be leaving soon. Abby wondered how soon that would be.

Mitch spent the rest of his day reading over the intel, and discussing the options with his team. After the sun had set he made his way to his room and prepared for bed. He had been thinking throughout the day if he'd even try to sleep alone, but had decided against it. He trusted Abby enough to share with her, and she had offered. He pulled a coat over himself picked up his gun and headed towards her room, careful to watch he wasn't followed. He knocked on her door lightly.

Abby heard a knock on her door, knowing that it was Mitch. She set her book on the nightstand then got up and walked to open the door. She smiled at Mitch, "Hey." She said, letting him in. "Everything okay?" She asked as she closed the door. She walked over to her bed, sitting on the end of it. "Am I aloud to know what you were needed for today?" She asked him.

Mitch smiled and entered into her room. "Yeah everything's fine, I was just hoping it'd be alright to sleep here again" he said softly. He sat down in the same seat as the other night, "Not yet, I can tell you I'll be around the base for a while," he said lightly. He smiled at her, "get your paperwork finished?" he asked.

Abby nodded, "Of course you can stay here." She said. She ran her fingers through her hair, "Yea I got everything done that I needed to." She said. She watched him, "How long with you be on base?" She asked him. She wondered if he was going to be staying with her a lot from now on. She wasn't going to tell him know if he wanted to though.

Mitch smiled softly, "A week probably, then I'll be gone for a bit," he admitted. He sat watching her, "thank you for letting me stay, it was nice to actually get some decent rest," he said softly. He knew it was risky, and wrong, for them to be doing this, so he'd try not make a habit of it.

Abby nodded, "It's no problem. It helps me sleep too." She admitted. She moved so she was under the covers, grabbing her book off the nightstand. She looked at him, "You can lay down if you want." She said, before looking down at her book. She wanted to finished her chapter in the book before she went to sleep.
