“I guess we would’ve...I’m sorry Jorel,” Sophia said. “If I would’ve just gone we could’ve been together and engaged,” she sighed softly.

“It’s okay...there was an obvious reason as to why you didn’t.” Jorel said as he sat with her. “I’m just glad you’re going to let me see my kid.”

Sophia nodded, “Jorel, I want you to see her as much as you want. She wants to be with you and get to know you.” She told him, of course she was also hoping that they’d be able to spend some time together.

“Well, I’m free the rest of the day, I’d love to hang here for a bit. Unless you have something to do with Trevor.” Jorel said.

“Actually, that sounds great. I was about to start making lunch, if you want to stay and spend time with Emery,” Sophia told him, seeing Em walk back over to them.

“Sure, I can do that.” Jorel smiled. He looked at Emery as she wrapped her arms around his leg. “Hi sweetie, what’s up?”

“Alright, well I’m going to cook while you two bond,” Sophia said as she got up and went into the kitchen.

Emery smiled up at him, “Nothin. I got a secret...I think mama missed you...” She said quietly.

Jorel pulled her up onto his lap. “Yeah? What makes you think that?” He asked her. He hoped Sophia missed him. He missed her so bad.

“She is happy when she tells me bout you,” Emery said, still trying not to be too loud. “Mama isn’t happy lots of the time, but she always smiles when she talks bout you,” She told him.

Jorel smiled. “That makes me happy, know what else makes me happy?” He asked and smiled when she shook her head no, “you do.” He said, booping her nose. “Why isn’t mama happy sometimes? What makes her not happy?”

Emery giggled when he booped her nose, covering it with her hands. “Mama gets sad when Trevor is here. They yell lots...”

“Lunch is almost done,” Sophia called from the kitchen.

Jorel frowned. “Does he ever hurt mommy or you?” He asked her quietly. “Okay!” He called to Sophia.

“Oh no,” Emery shook her head, “Mama says he just don’t understand her sometimes.”

Sophia walked into the living room, “Foods ready.” She smiled.

“Okay, come on sweetie, lets go eat.” Jorel told Emery as he helped her down and watched her run into the kitchen. He smirked at Sophia. “She told me you get all happy when you talk about me.” He smirked.

Sophia set out plates and put the food on them before she got Emery’s plate and put it on the table at her spot. “Oh really? What else did she say?” She asked.

“That you and Trevor fight a lot. He doesn’t make you happy.” Jorel shrugged as he grabbed himself a bottle of water.

Sophia stopped and looked at Jorel, “She heard us...” she leaned against the counter, rubbing the sides of her head. “Trevor just doesn’t get it, don’t get me wrong he’s great with her, but he’s not her dad. He doesn’t really know what it’s like to be a parent....” She sighed.

“Neither do I, if you think about it. I just met her today..” Jorel said as he stood by her. “If any gives you any problems though, and you want me to take care of him, I will.” He smiled.

Sophia looked at him, “But now I don’t have to worry about you deciding you don’t want to be part of Em’s life. I guess it’s different when I know you’re here because you’ll love her, Trevor doesn’t have to stay and I’ve been thinking he wants out...” she ran a hand through her hair.
