Land of The Dead

Ada busied herself with rearranging the things on the counter, having let the children mess it up while she was speaking to their mother. She looked up just in time to see him look down and blushed at the idea that he had been staring at her.

She sighed hearing his words and bit down on her lip thinking about it before finally giving in and said, "I guess." She replied knowing he wasn't going to leave it alone unless she gave in. She didn't want to keep hearing about it and honestly, she just wanted to forget the whole incident had ever happened.

Augustus nodded, "Thank you," he said softly. He explained that he tried to get the vampire to flee, and that he used the choker to attempt to subdue him after he attacked again. He then added that the vampire promised that he'd be back to kill as many humans as he could if he was let go. "I didn't feel like I had any choice, I needed to protect the village, I'm sorry you had to see that," he said softly.

He looked down ashamed that his violent nature was causing her stress.

Ada listened her hands fiddling with a hem on her dress as she listened. She sighed listening to his words and said, "It was just cruel. The whole thing." She told him before hopping down from the stool and landing on her feet. "I found it cruel at least. To put a collar on him." She murmured knowing she shouldn't be upset about something like that since the vampire had been trying to kill her, but she was and didn't know how else to make it different.

She had her back facing her and her hands on her chest trying to subdue the tremors in her hands. Soon enough, she had calmed down and turned back to look at him her blue eyes bright and watchful.

Augustus nodded, "I know I'm sorry," he said matter of factly. He honestly didn't see it as cruel though, anti-human vampires had done so much worse in the war. He looked up at her watching her stand and turn away from him. He wished he could comfort her, but was certain that she wouldn't be comfortable with that.

He stood up and made his way towards the door, he would leave if she wanted him too.

Ada nodded and said, "You're probably thinking that people and vampires are much more cruel, and you're right, but that doesn't mean you have to be cruel like them." She told him shrugging lightly as she turned to look at him. She watched as he headed towards the door and then said, "Are you leaving?" She hadn't expected him to leave just like that, but she figured she had spent a good hour with him thus far and that was a great start.

She ran a hand through her hair pushing strands away from her face to look at him, her hands clasping together at her stomach as she watched him.

Augustus turned back to her, "I was just checking outside, I thought I heard something," he said lightly. He had been mistaken. He walked back over to her, "Would you like me to leave though?" he asked. He was enjoying being here, she smelled amazing, and he was finding it difficult not to sniff her directly.

Ada nodded and said, "What did you think you heard?" She questioned curiously, walking over and looking out the window, before going back and beginning to put things on the shelves looking when she heard his words and said, "You aren't bothering me if that's what you're trying to get at." She smiled softly knowing she didn't know if she wanted him to leave, and at this point was trying her best to be polite. She didn't like being rude.

Augustus shrugged lightly, "I'm not sure," he lied. He watched her working away and moved over helping her slowly. "Well, I'll stick around until the rain lets up," he said lightly. He smiled at her softly, "does that work for you?" he asked.

Ada looked at him with a raised eyebrow before saying, "Alright, then." She hummed softly as she did so not knowing what else to do. She blinked seeing him helping her and nodded, "That's fine." She told him before asking if he could help her with stacking the things she couldn't reach. If he was going to help, she might as well put him to work.

Augustus smiled softly, he followed her instructions helping her stack the things on the higher shelves. He looked around the store, "has your father considered hiring a new person?" he asked softly. He easily lifted the heavy items onto the shelf.

Ada was glad that she finally had those things on the higher shelves knowing customers had been complaining about them since she couldn't reach. She looked over and said, "He's trying to get a few boys in here to help so I can go back to babysitting the neighbor's children since their father works and they lost their mother." She explained. She watched him easily lift things and was a little envious that she couldn't.

Augustus nodded continuing to give her as much space as he could. He looked over at her, "well I hope he finds some help, hopefully the village will settle down a bit soon," he commented. He was surprised at how stunning she looked still, despite the bandages, and the work she'd been doing.

Ada laughed and said, "I do too, simply because it's difficult doing all of this. He can't do it, it hurts his back, I can't do it because I'm too short." She explained shaking her head again her hair going everywhere for a second. She pushed it back into place and looked over seeing him look at her, "Yes?" She asked chuckling.

Augustus would of blushed if he could, "Nothing, I was just admiring your beauty again," he commented quickly. He moved towards the chair again having finished stacking the high shelves. "I think its amazing that you help your father out," he said lightly.

Ada blinked hearing his words and just gave him a nice smile. "Well, thank you." She murmured before looking up seeing her job was done for the day. She went and sat down again letting her hands fall into her lap. She shrugged and murmured, "Someone has to." She admitted. 'if I don't, then he'll hurt himself. He's too stubborn." She laughed softly.

Augustus watched her move over and sit down, "Don't tire yourself out too much though, you need to look after yourself as well," he said.

He let out a slight growling sound, slowly feeling his hunger swelling up. He would need to feed soon.

Ada shrugged slightly waving him off, "I'm fine. I've been trying to help out since I was a child." She told him knowing she would be fine. "As long as I don't forget to eat and I sleep, i'll be fine." She tried to ease his concern.

She flinched surprised by the sound and watched him apprehensively. She didn't know what that sound meant, but whatever it was, it couldn't have been good. She stepped back a few steps watching him.

Augustus nodded, "Well please don't forget to eat or sleep," he commented. He noticed her move back, he smiled softly, "Sorry about that, I am uh, growing hungry myself," he admitted to her. He kept his distance from her, "I can usually go awhile without feeding, but there was so much blood around when I was away, that I've needed to feed more often," he continued to explain. He stepped back, "I need to get home," he said dropping to his knee.

Ada nodded and said, "I don't, normally.' She replied. She blinked hearing his words and just watched him giving him a nod and said, "Alright, well, I don't know how to help with that." She told him since she was scared to go near him. She didn't want to get bitten or anything. She pressed her back to the wall she was in, her breathing quickening. She shoved hair away from her face, her intoxicating smell drifting towards him.

Augustus looked up at her. He nodded slightly, "I'll see you tomorrow?" he asked lightly. He struggled to get back to his feet, his growling intensifying. He made his way to the door, and made and exit into the pouring rain.

Augustus made his way to his home, struggling to fight his urge to feed, he could hear the beating hearts of the villagers as he moved through the street.
