Surprise quickly flashed in Nate's eyes before confusion started to sink in. Why in the world was Charlotte so mad? He was pretty sure that his plot was foolproof. He'd get to captain his ship, and Charlotte would get what she wanted by having him resting. Sure, he'd be sitting instead of laying down but really. Who could lay around all day? That sounded freaking boring and Nate was pretty sure that he'd go insane if he wasn't allowed to do something at all.

"Charlotte, wait," Nate called after his beautiful lover. He stood up quickly and then groaned, doubling over slightly as the sudden fast movement caused the wounds on his back to hurt. "Ah, damn," Nate mumbled quietly as he slowly lowered himself into his chair. Grinding his teeth the whole time because it hurt to move into a sitting position once more. A small sigh escaped from Nate as he ran a hand through his hair. His head resting back as he leaned back in the seat. Ignoring the angry irritation that he was feeling. "I'm in the dog house now." He mumbled to himself and then closed his eyes. Allowing himself to relax for a few moments before attempting to move anymore today.

It took a lot more effort then Nate had originally anticipated. Walking to the door of his room, fine. Walking down the hall, fine. Walking up the stairs onto the main deck? Slow and painful. Who would have guessed that making his way up a couple of stairs would hurt so badly? It was like he was being whipped all over again with the way his wounds pulled on each other with each step that he took, but he made it. Nate had conquered the evil stairs and came out victorious.

Slowly, shifting his gaze over the ship's deck. Nate allowed for a small not to happen as he leaned against the nearest railing. It seemed like things were running smoothly. Everyone was working, no one was really slacking off, but if they were, then they acted like they weren't. Which, Nate really didn't mind. Although, one thing crossed his mind as he surveyed the deck, where did Charlotte go? He thought she'd be up here.

Once Charlotte was rather confident that she had lost Nate, she made her way towards the kitchen. Just because she was angry and ditched her meal at the room, didn't mean she wasn't going to eat breakfast. Skipping a meal would only make her more frustrated in the long run. Plus, Charlotte felt rather confident that Nate would not look for her there, at least not at first. If she was smart, she would be able to maneuver around the ship without running into him for the whole day... not that she needed the whole day to calm down, at least she thought it wasn't necessary.

Even so, Charlotte made her way into the kitchen, offering the chef a bright smile before she took just a little something from the food he had already made. The crew wasn't supposed to eat much more than what was offered them but Charlotte rarely took a second plate of food so had a lot more leniency when she did come down for seconds.

After she was done working, Charlotte took a moment to think about where to go next. She needed to get some work done and she still wanted to avoid Nate for a while. So going up on deck was a bad idea but also grabbing her working materials would probably get her caught... Charlotte let out a sigh before sliding out of the kitchen and making her way down the hallway. She probably shouldn't be too worried about getting caught by Nate today. It would be so easy to just run away. Yeah, if she did that it would irritate him but at least they wouldn't fight.

So she made her way to one of the spare bedrooms. There was some work she could do with just the spare paper in there....plus a nap didn't sound like a bad idea.

Doing his best to ignore the pain that he was in, Nate moved towards the railing. The sky was a beautiful bright blue color and the water was so damn calm. It would have been a terrible waste if he had been inside resting. The breeze from the ocean was quite refreshing and if Nate closed his eyes and focused on the smell of the fresh sea air, then he could almost imagine not being in pain. That the large deep gashes on his back were non-existent.

Sadly though, all good things must come to an end, because as he opened his eyes a sort of feeling came over Nate. With years of experience of having people wanting him dead as well as his military training, Nate acted quickly and spun around. His right hand quickly reaching out and grabbing the man's wrist as he raised a knife. Ready to stab him in the back like the traitor that he was.

A small grunt escaped from Nate. Showing weakness on a Pirate ship was not a good idea at all. Things like this could happen. Everyone worked together, but with one weak link, the whole ship could be destroyed and this. This was a test sent to him by his crew. They obviously wanted to know if Nate still had it in him, and this man seemed to have been foolish enough to try and take the title of captain while he was injured.

With a few more back and forth movements from the two men, Nate managed to knock the knife out of the man's hand. Then, acting quick, Nate pulled his right hand back and quickly gave him a harsh right hook to the side of his face. Sending the ex-crew member toppling over, where other members of the crew came rushing forward to tie the loser up and throw into the brig.

Charlotte's eyes shot open as she heard a ruckus occurring outside the bedroom down. It took her a few moments to comprehend that it wasn't the type of normal noise that she was now used to on the ship, at least not during the day. It was unusual to hear such yelling, cheering and insults being thrown about at this hour. Her eyebrows furrowed together, tempted to just ignore it. Though curiosity as to what had the crew riled up caused Charlotte to slide out of the bed and open the door.

The sight she saw was strange, men running up to the top of the ship. Even crewmembers that were meant to be underneath or sleeping. Charlotte blinked a few times before calling out to one of the pirates. "What is happening?" They ignored her question and it wasn't until Charlotte grabbed a man by the arm to force his attention to her did she get an answer.

"There is a fight over who will be the next captain." Charlotte's eyes widen at the news and immediately her heart dropped. Pure fear started to run through her body and in an instant, Charlotte was in a dead run, pushing anyone out of the way to get to the deck. She knew Nate was weak right now. What if someone was able to get the better of him? They wouldn't just kill him, would they? No, she couldn't let Nate die.

As she forced her way through the crowd, Charlotte couldn't help but wonder why no one was trying to help Nate. What was wrong with these men?! She wanted to scream but she felt as though her voice was lost. Soon, she pushed through to the front of the crowd just in time to watch Nate throw the fight-ending punch. The man fell down and the moment he hit the crowd, people started to move quickly around her. Some heading back to their duties and others quick to grab the man and carry him down to the brig.

Even though there was so much movement around her, Charlotte was still. She grabbed onto her chest, trying to calm herself down from the fear that had just been coursing through her veins.

Soft pants escaped from Nate as he watched the man who tried to take his place get dragged away. His eyes narrowed in irritation. The man was a lower level member of the crew. Nate didn't even know his name but knew his face from the few times they passed each other in the halls. It was sad really, that a man who wasn't yet accustomed to the way the crew worked, wanted to rush to the top.

With a shake of his head, a sigh escaped from Nate. His eyes closing as he raised a hand and ran it through his messy hair. Damn, he needed a drink now. That fight hurt his back so much, that it felt like he would topple over at any moment. Yet, he couldn't. He needed to prove to the crew that just because he was injured, didn't mean that he couldn't kick someone's ass and not feel bad about it.

When Nate opened his eyes, Charlotte was standing right in front of him. The sight of her, looking scared out of her mind, caused the strong man to freeze. His own eyes widening as he realized that she must give seen the fight. That she knew what would of happaned if he had lost. Guilt slowly filled Nate, and he couldn't bear looking at his lover. So, he lowered his gaze and looked away from her. His hand that had run through his hair moving to rest on the back of his neck.

"You can slap me." Nate murmured quietly, although he was pretty sure that Charlotte had heard him anyways. The girl seemed to always be able to hear him like she was attuned to his voice or something weird like that. "If you want. I deserve it." Asking to be smacked was a new thing, usually, Nate wouldn't allow a man or a woman to lay a hand on him, but. With Charlotte, he would take any sort of contact from her. Anything, anything at all.

The moment words started to spill from Nate's lips, Charlotte was quick to make her way over to him. When she was in front of him, Charlotte shoved him to the railing of the ship, still angry about this morning and now angry about what had just occurred. Though before Nate could really fall back, Charlotte wrapped her arms around him and pulled Nate into her. Her face pressed against his chest as her arms were tight around him.

"I really hate the things you do." Charlotte whimpered into his chest as she buried her face harder into his shirt. "You never listen to me and get yourself into all of this trouble. And what are you going to do when you get yourself into too much of it? What's your big stupid plan once someone better than you comes along and decides they want you dead."

Charlotte could feel her eyes filling up and she leaned back for a moment to look up at Nate. "You know you have to stay alive for me, don't you? You act so recklessly like you don't even care. Always do the opposite of what is safe or what I want." Charlotte smacked his shoulder. "What do you expect me to do if you're gone."

A few tears started to slide down Charlotte's face. "You know I am only here for you so why do you make that so hard? Don't you want to stay alive for me? Why are you always so reckless? Even simple things like me asking you to rest today, you ignore."

As Nate moved back against the railing, he pursed his lips together. He was ready to take whatever beating that Charlotte threw his way. Take whatever insults, punches anything she gave him. What he wasn't ready for though, was her spilling her heart out to him. For her soft skinned arms to wrap around his waist and just hold him to her as she spoke. Her warm breath being felt through his shirt and causing goosebumps to work their way up his skin.

Slowly, as Nate listened to Charlotte, his arms snaked around her waist. Holding her lightly as she cried and opened her heart once more to her. "I know." Was the only thing that Nate could muster the strength to speak as he looked down towards the beautiful woman that was looking up at him. Her soft features, so mature, yet so tough at the same time. Charlotte was everything to Nate. She made it so much easier for him to breath, to not be afraid. She was his sun, his air. His life.

"I know." Nate repeated as he tightened his hold on Charlotte. His head leaned down as he pressed a light kiss to her lips. Then, he buried his face into her shoulder as he held her tight against him. Never wanting to let her go. "I just can't help it Charlie." He murmured into her soft skin. "It just comes to easy for me. I can't control it sometimes." He murmured once more, pulling away slightly so that she could see the worry that filled his eyes. "Really, I'm so so sorry. Please, don't be mad at me."
