Ville in With You has the same views as I do when it comes to swimming; that it's best when avoided. I hate pools, but not for the reasons he does in the fic.

Each of my characters has an element of myself in them. It's not a narcassist thing, I take elements of all sorts of people I know and put them into my characters. What better influence than real life?
    Yeah, I do it too.

I can't remember many specific things, but in one of my old stories the main character could only sleep on her back, which was something I used to add to her character, but it was based off of me too.

Usually my characters react to a situation the same sort of way I would. There's no other way to write it, really.

In The Umbrella Check the main charecter Ryan is based a little off of me, and some things that arn't me im becoming. There is actually a charecter that is exactly me, with the same name and everything because it fits. :)

I wrote myself in my first MCR fanfiction, using myself as an OFC that was a hair stylist on Warped Tour who Gerard fell completely and utterly in love with and then they had loads of secks. :shifty

    It was weird. :XD

So now I just stick to the Ger-Z's y'know?..

In a one-shot I'm writing right now called 'The Victim's Love' (soon to be posted), the main character has the same desire for danger and change that I feel myself having right now. I basically poured my biggest fantasy of what I would love to happen in my life into the story.

In almost all of my stories, small, little details are based off of my own life. For example, in any story I write that takes place in college, the dorm building set-up and rooms are exactly the same as my own dorm building set-up and rooms, and usually, the main character will have the first bedroom to the right of the living room -- same as me.

And then there's even smaller details. Like, in my story Virgin, there's a mention of Ryan insisting that he and Brendon have an Anne Hathaway Movie Matathon Day, and that came from my insane love of Anne Hathaway (and the fact that I watched Rachel Getting Married shortly before writing that chapter). And then when they were stoned, Brendon made pizza rolls but was too impatient to let them cook all the way, so he ate them mostly cold. I do that all the time when I'm high and have pizza rolls in my freezer. And the friendship dynamic between Brendon and Jon resembles the dynamic between my best friend and myself.

I've put myself into some of my stories. In Diana's Story, Ivy's based off of me, sort of. In my newest story, Anthem, Princess is mainly based off of one of my best friends, but I'm finind my own messed-up brain leaking into her quite a bit. I suppose that now it's like if she and I had a baby... :shifty

I based Neil off of my brother, because I just love him that much. :tehe:

But I made sure to make Amy, who makes a cameo in Pulse, have absolutely nothing in common with me except basic features. I put an "Amy" into all of my stories, and they generally look like me exactly, but they have vastly different personalities. I gurantee that if you look into any of my finished chaptered stories, even the unposted ones, you'll find an Amy.

All of my characters have some aspects of 'me' in them. I'm weird. I have a lot of little habits and quirks that I use on characters to make them more interesting. :)

^ Same here. I like to add something of me to my characters so I feel closer to them, but never self-insertion.

Definitely. My story Chosen reflects so much of my personality, but I don't intentionally do it! But what Venomous said applies to me, because most of my main characters have certain aspects of myself. Like Meg Cabot based her character Mia Thermopolis in the Princess Diaries on herself.

I don't, and probably never will, put me in my stories. I don't know. There's just something about it that bugs me (characters wise). But, I do put a little piece of me in each character, I think every author does that, intentionally or not. I wont put me in as a character, though. [/hopethatmakessense]

I never self-insert, but I tend to put a bit of me in some characters, because I find it easier and more effective to bring out the emotions and thoughts whenever I do that.

I think writing from real-life is the best way to make characters real. Often, adding your own traits to characters makes them more believable as you can describe and portray quirks better when they're your own. If that makes sense.

Annie from my story Disenchanted is alot like me.
But I meant to do it like that, because, well, I don't know...it's hard to explain.
The story is based on something I went through/am in the process of still sort of going through. Hah.

But my next story will be be a completely new character who isn't really like me at all.
    Heh.

I take a lot of stuff from me and put them into my stories. I have made a small habit of taking stuff from my life and putting it into my stories, like with my current story [that is not up on here yet] Winnie's closeness to her brother comes from my relationship with my brother.

I self-insert. But like... I don't make myself into this girl who's double my age, prettier, blahblahblah and I make myself make out with Gerard or anything. I'm who I am when I write my self-insertions; a twelve (or now, thriteen) year old girl that's looking for a dad.

I just wrote something like an SI but not really. I don't like to glorify myself at all, I hate it. In Like a Painting., the girl is apparantly me, but not. I never mentioned a name or how the girl looked like.

When I was 12 I co-wrote a story with my best friend. The character I created was loosly based on how I hoped I would be when I got older.

Funny thing is, I didn't try, but I got there.

Willow Coult, in Under a Willow Tree, has the same views as me with a few similar characteristics. I find it easier to base a character off yourself or someone you know so well, just so you can be able to create a realistic character.
