Sheila Asakura from Holy Crap There's Vampires At My School! is actually based off of me. She has my complete personality.
In fact most my characters share some similarities of mine and some of my personality traits. I like doing that because they're more realistic to me and to my readers then.

The character named Holly in my story isn't entirely based off me, but she has certain characteristics I also have. i.e the large blue eyes and feminine appearance are how people describe me, but I just expanded on that, so I do not think I'm as beautiful as I explained Holly was. I just exaggerated.

My characters tend to react to things as I would react to them, but other than that... they are their own little person.

In It's All in the Stars, Alana and Adela are different sides of my personality. Alana is me when I'm lost in my thoughts: Quiet and polite. Then Adela is more like me when I'm around my friends: Annoying, hyper, and silly. They are secretly living out my dream of traveling the world.

I can only say that I've self-inserted once, and that was for a contest in which I had to SI, and even then I wasn't a big part of the story.

I have named characters after myself, but they are usually nothing like me or only have a smidgen of myself in there. In Paper Hearts, the main character has my first name, but she is so completely unlike me. I just needed a name, and I thought mine fit.

The character that has the most of me in them is the narrator of Safe and Sound because I wrote that based on my own situation with my father, so I had to tap into a lot of my own thoughts and emotions.

I tend to never have a main character who is tanned. I'm not sure if that's because I'm pale or if it's just a habit though.
Also I tend to write scenerios that are close to what have happened to me and write how I wanted it to happen, rather than how it did, depending on the character though. If my character is as bad as me I might make it even worse!
My characters always have a natural shyness because then I can connect to them more and know how they feel. A lot of my characters are very similar except with different names.....
It's something I need to work on.

I always put a little bit of myself into my characters. I've never based one solely on myself though.

My character(s) in "A Highway to Hell" is me and my friend. Minus a bit of our extremely shameful traits, they are pretty close to the real us. (She helps me write and is my beta.)

My other characters... my one-shots have nothing to do with me, but my stories do.

I don't like writing myself into stories, it makes me uncomfortable. I'd much rather create characters and their back stories.

Non of my characters have my personality nor my physical traits, but some of the stories I write are based on my daydreams, so in some way they connect back to me.

Most of my characters resemble me in small ways, but we have a lot more differences than similarities. Amber's more melodramatic, Cassidy bottles stuff up more, Derrick is crazier, Ritchie is stupider (XD), and Jeremy's just… a case. tehe

I mostly just give some of my small quirks to characters, not character flaws or anything, but little preferences.

One-shots that I write [FanFic] that are in first person, are implied self-insertions, that is my name is generally not mentioned. So, therefore anyone reading it could insert themselves into the first person position. But, to me, the narrator is me.

For Grace in Eccentrically, she was loosely based off someone else, this quiet girl in my class last year. :) I can't say that I modeled her to be like me, though I wish I have her life.

in Cuts of Glory, Willow is kind of based off me. Like all her actions and thoughts and that, that's kind of how I would act. And Stacey is after my friend Kim.

In One Black Wish, Calayah's attitude is based off of mine. If I was in her situation I would probably react the same way the does...

Usually all of my main characters have traits of myself. Like, personality wise and tastes in music, etc. But atm, I'm trying to write a story with the main character quite different.

I try to make everything I write as unbiased and separate from myself as I can, so I won't feel like an egotist. But when I read it I see a lot of similarities in the plot as I have experienced in my life at one time. DD: But I guess it's just something everyone has to live with--that what you create is another branch of yourself.

^ I think that one needs to find a balance. If you completely disconnect yourself from a character then it's not going to count for productive writing.

No character so far is based off of me, and I like that fact. Every character I create is different, though I find a way to relate, even if they are the complete opposite of me. If I can't find a way to connect with the character I'm writting then I won't write him at all.
