Oh my God. You're my hero- I've been writing this one story over and over- trying to make it Mibba worthy- and now that you've posted this- I think it's finally Mibba worthy. Thanks:]

Woah, this is really helpful. :D
I'm always trying to use different words, because writing "she said" about twenty times in a story gets repetitive.

Sometimes, the word 'said' is needed, in my opinion
Too much variation can make it seem like overload.
However it is nice to have a variety sometimes, so this list is helpful!

I was gonna say that, but I didn't wanna get blasted.
If you're reading a story and it has different words after every bit of dialogue... it gets kinda redundant.

Sort of like the whole no description vs. too much description thing, you have to find the balance.

    That's true.
You don't want to find a different word for every single piece of dialogue but you can balance it out by repeating words or using said as well.
I use said alot when I don't think anything else fits.

I skip “said” a lot of times. And skip as not replacing it with any other word either. Like, I don’t tell at all how it’s said but rather add something the character does. Or I simply just put nothing after the things they say. Like:

“Yeah, I just got here,” she said, smiling.
“Okay. Cool.” The boy shuffled his feet, his eyes darting around nervously.
    “So?”
“So,” he sighed like a worn-out parrot and tried to smile but it turned out as a grimace. He felt so stupid repeating her word but it was all he could get past his anxiously twitching lips.

Carppy example but it gets the message across, yeah?
Anyway, this way there’ll be even more variation. :cute:
Though having a list of alternative words for "said" is of course great. = ]
