It really depends on the story.
Sometimes you just need something that's going to shatter you, and make you really think.
I like happy endings, but sometimes it really does need that sad ending to make it more realistic.

I'm more a fan of the bittersweet endings, myself. Rainbows n' sunshine endings irritate me, but rocks fall, everyone dies is also very irksome. Bittersweet is more reminiscent of real life.

My own current story, No Man's Land, will end on a bittersweet note. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't remember if I've posted here yet or not. :shifty
I think it depends on the tone of the rest of the story. :XD
I mean, if it's a super sad story all the way through and it's really dark, I like sad endings, usually character death or something like that.
But if it's a happy story, then I love happy endings.

    Happy, all the way.
I like it when the story's had a problem, but then it gets fixed in a way, and it's never the same, but it's alright.
And when it just makes you smile right at the end :3

    I also like...neutral endings.
How it isn't sad, but it's not too happy either.

    Or funny endings...
There's just the last line which is a joke, which happens real often in most of the stories I read. :3

I also like when the character dies, but it's not overly dramatic, it's just low-key and then it ends. /:

Bittersweet endings. Ones that are happy but sad at the same time; ones that you didn't want to happen.

I like ambigious endings. Happy endings are nice, always. They tie up all the loose ends and leave me feeling...fulfilled. The sad ones or ambigious ones make frustrate me. But I like that feeling. And I like thinking about what may have happened afterward.

It kind of depends on how the story goes, but I'm leaning more toward sad endings. Everyone loves the good happy ending, but a sad one is just more unique cause it's not as done as a happy one.

Yeah I'm going to go with everyone else, but I like a happy ending. I have read only one story that has made me truly literally cry. It was the sades, yet best story ever. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone will ever know how it will end. :(

I think I'm sort of biased when it comes to this. I like it when characters end up happy, truly, I do, but I like it when I can (or other writers can) totally screw with their lives and get away with it. If it ends with a tragedy, as long as it's good, I'm for it.

...So I guess I'm saying I like a story that ends at the right time. Whether I know how the character finished out life or not, it has to be timed right, otherwise I just go all :grr:.

    It depends for me.

If it had drama then I want it to end on a happy note. If it had a mix but mostly happy, of course the bad have to take it's toll.

As long as it's realistic. If someone's in a coma, realistically, not a happy ending. If someone is fighting cancer, possible happy ending. You'd want a happy ending for that one.

    That's how I see it :)

To me it doesn't matter if the ending is happy or sad. I want to read the ending that fits. Like, after you've read it and it's settled with you, you look back on the whole story and the ending makes sense and just fits. I love endings like taht.

I tend to gravitate towards stories that have a happy ending, but there are some unhappy aspects within it. That's how I tend to write, too. There's always something left at the end that isn't happy.

    If that makes any sense...

I prefer realistic stories. In life, there usually isn't a completely happy ending. Bittersweet is the most realistic.

It mainly depends on the story, really, but I've always preferred an ending with a death.

Like most people probably do, I think I prefer happy endings. I can be pretty pleased with a "bad" ending if it's executed well, though.

I guess it really depends on the story, though.

Sometimes you just have to end it sad. And sometimes a happier ending is better. It all depends in the story really.

I prefer a mix of them.
A bittersweet ending where they both lose and gain something is my preferable ending.
But really, it depends on the plot and tone of the story. I don't want to see a happy ending if the whole story has been dark and gloomy. I don't mind happy or sad ending, they just seem unnatural to me.

I'm a sucker for a happy ending, but only if the characters 'deserve' one. I don't know, sometimes I feel like the characters shouldn't have a happy ending, and sometimes I do. I suppose it depends on the content of the story, and how everything pans out towards the end.

It depends. If the main character(s) really deserve the happy ending (they've nearly died and not from their own stupidity, they've risked their lives, loved ones have died, they just saved the world) and work for their happy ending then I'm fine with the happy ending but sad endings are good because then I get emotional and it's funny when I look back on it.

So I like both but since I don't think most characters don't deserve the happy ending I like sad ones more.

I personally like sad endings. Happy endings are okay but I love a good tragedy.
