    the Abyss:
I've honestly never understood how some people are bad at cooking. I can understand that making a 5 course dinner out of rare and expensive and fiddly ingredients might be challenging for a lot of people, but just every day home cooking like pasta dishes, or salads, or pizzas, or even something like a barbeque etc. isn't really difficult to master. -shrug-
Maybe some people just hate cooking in general, so they become bad at it because they put no effort in.
I can cook but my step-mum, her cooking was a atrocious at first. Literally and that was just macaroni....

It's took her about two years of practice to actually cook decent meals that the household enjoys. You know the reason...in her 35 years of living she barely ever cooked anything for herself. She loved her food, she was just too lazy to make her own. Naturally, she wasn't the best cook either. It's just weird.

Sometimes I might stuff up a meal a bit, if it's a new recipe especially, because I missed a step or use the wrong technique. Some people don't pay that much attention that they leave the pan in the oven for too long, don't have good judgement on whether something is cooked or appears the way it should as dictated by the recipe etc. -shrug-

The thing about cooking for yourself is that you can improvise with the ingredients yourself. What you get over a counter pre-made, that cannot be altered all you can do is pick of the bits you refuse to etc.

What I don't understand is that in our country people buy the most expensive kitchens and the cheapest food. :S
I prefer home-made food all the way. Even as a little kid I hated McDonald's and such stuff. I used to not go to birthday parties because they always went to Mac's.

And if you cook your food yourself you appreciate much more.

I think cooking for yourself gives you a higher regard for yourself, more independence etc.

However, nothing can beat the homemade cooking of a chef, or your mother/father. The cook of the house. My dad is the best cook...this is off topic though. :shifty

    Edit: Thread.

heh well my mom is a really good cook, but other than a few baked things where she wins, i'm the better cook between us.

some stuff i have done that she would never attempt, like roast duck, all the trimmings for 300 people for a wedding reception.

Cooking for yourself gives you a greater feeling of accomplishment and at least you know what you're putting into your body.
Although, I can't exactly cook unless I'm at work. At home, my specialty would be either toast [burned :XD] or oriental noodles. I need a fixed recipe... or everything laid out before me and a highly accomplished Chef looking over my shoulder. :tehe:

I'm the same. Without a recipe, I burn too many things.

I'm the opposite; recipes I'll remember them but if I have to strictly follow them I stuff the mean up too often.

I love home cooked food way better, but when I'm starving and can't wait, or I'm too tired to cook, for it I'll get something. I usually only eat fast food during lunch. My mom always cooks dinner every day.

    Come one.
87 cents for a 1/2lb cheesy double beef burrito from Taco Bell that tastes like heaven.
    Woo, straight up my alley.

I like fast food, but in moderation.
Some of it makes me feel sick if I consume it too often.
Fast food sushi is great though.

I only buy chedder bacon fries or cheese fries normally if I have my choice. It's not due to fast pace living either. I just like cheese fries.

I use to love places like Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King. Now, I can't stand it. I've been trying to eat less fast food, and eat healthier, which has been working for me. I ate at Burger King weeks ago, and the food made me vomit. It's just so gross now.

I prefer cooking at home now. My boyfriend and I have these cooking nights, where he just comes over and we cook dinner for each other. It's healthier, more organic, and we have fun and appreciate cooking more.

Well, technically cooking at home is only more healthy and organic if you make it so. I mean, my grandmother for example cooks home made stuff all the time, but I swear her roast potatoes can't be good for one's arteries :tehe:

I don't eat fast food. I drink coffee, and eat ready meals, but I always check.
I'm a good girl Tongue haha.
