I do, it got busy, and I was also reading stories that my friends at school had written. The two of them were on a ROLL, by the way, I don't think I've ever read stories of that caliber. One was just one of the most compelling things I'd ever read, about an IRA thug in Ireland in 1982. The other was just incredibly well-written about a guy killing himself with a bottle of Xanax. Man, I'm not gonna review on here for a bit, because in light of those two, I would trash EVERYTHING.

this is totally random, but! where is this from?

"Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that all was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men; for they may act their dream with open eyes and make it possible."

I think writing for oneself is a noble enterprise, and certainly as good a motive as any. However, I don't think you ARE the only person for whom you write. You have your stories up here, so you must want SOMEone else to read them. Write with that person in mind, write to express yourself in a way that will wrap them up in your story.

I do. And don't worry about them. Determine who you want for an audience, and write for THAT group.

Ohh, yeah, I'd say your biggest weakness is lack of restraint. Knowing what words to keep and what words to throw out is the hardest part of writing, and you're still keeping too many words that you don't need. I think you should start paying extra attention when you go back to edit. Think, "do I REALLY need this word? Is this adjective REALLY necessary? Do these two words have close enough meanings to only need one?" The other problem I commonly have with your writing is the use of words you don't really find in common use anymore. For example, I think the other day I saw "morrow" in one of your stories. Words like "ere," "morrow," etc. sound really unnatural in a contemporary voice. Be part of your own language, use your own unique linguistic background to inform your writing. Don't rely on what poetry used to sound like 300 years ago. That poetry sucks anyhow.

While I love cynicism, try to be optimistic at the same time. Remember, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Optimism is hope for the best; cynicism is expectation of the worst.

You're a likeable girl who had the good fortune to get some brains and some writing talent. Now stop being so down on yourself and realize you're a pretty ok kid.

You never know. It's always good to have someone else do it. You tend to miss things as an author that an audience picks up on more easily.

Well, I'll start tearing your writing apart. You'll have a constructive critic on staff, and maybe it'll make you even better. You write a hell of a lot better than I did at 14. I mean, it's not even CLOSE.

    Please. Something good.

The truly "great" writers are those impassable geniuses who can never be matched, save by each other.

Heh, well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Some people don't have the same gifts you and I are lucky enough to have. But they can work on the skills and develop them.
