Falling in love was not an entirely uncommon thing in high school. Having it happen between two people who knew each other well enough to be more than just classmates but less than friends was more or less uncommon. Not so much that it never happens, just enough to be considered uncommon.
Two people met in high school and fell in love but neither one ever made a move. That was how a lot of high school romances went. But why didn't they? For the same reason no one ever really does when it comes to love: fear of what might or might not happen.
When two particular individuals meet again, all bets are off about what'll happen this time around.
