I'm a Gryffindor.
But I also love the Twilight Series.
I found the vampires in the Twilight Series to be quiet refreshing. Their apart from the usual vampire stories, that consist of vampires sleeping in coffins and burning up if they hit daylight, while killing irrationally at night. But Stephanie Meyer took the vampire stories in a new direction. Vampires who can go out in the day, who drink animal blood instead of human as to not hurt anyone. And who live regular lives like every other person.
Now don't get me wrong, I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Harry Potter had been my life before Twilight came and will be after Twilight is gone. But I think they are both very good books. They bring light to a completely different era of mosters and mythical creatures.
im on your side.. i hate twilight and i LOVE HARRY POTTER & IM ON TEAM SLYTHERIN :D TWILIGHT'S TOPIC JUST BOTHERS ME SO MUCH AND TO ME IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE AT ALL!V I LOVE THE HARRY POTTER SERIES AND IM ON TEAM SLYTHERIN ( as i said ) AND ALL THE OTHER HOUSES ARE COOL TOO : D I JUST LOVE LOVE SLYTHERIN TOO MUCH D
I agree with you. Twlight is kind of poorly written and very unrealistic based on Harry Potter. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and the difference between Rowling's main character and Myers's main character is that Harry Potter has a life. In Twilight, you do not know much about Sir Sparks-a-lot, what makes him tick, what's his flaw. Edward is 'perfect'. We all know Harry has a hero-complex, that's just him. We know he is definatley not perfect either. Myer has written Eddie-boy to be every girl's dream, tall, dark, and handsome. He has no background. Why is he so possesive of Bella? Why is he so angsty. I am pretty sure he wasn't locked in a cupboard for his whole childhood.
Another thing why in my opinion I think that Edward is truly unrealistic is because he is just there. We (the readers) do not get the chance to know him. With Harry, we've seen him go from slightly shy and small eleven year old to akward adolescent to young man. Edward just shows up.
The plot is not unlike that of many American TV show. Boy meets girl, Boy can't have girl, Boy marries girl, the end. Besides the fact that he's a vampire, not much going on.
(Ok, almost done with my rant!) The Twilight movie is earning so much money because of the actor's they are using. Many of the Harry Potter actors are British so us in America do not know much about them. But Rob Pattison? Taylor Lautner? These are big names in America, of course people are going to flock to see them. Sadly, I asked a friend what do they think about Daniel Radcliff one day. The awnser? Who's that?
I have to say I am a Harry Potter fanatic through and through. Twilight had its hold over me for a time, but my liking for it has been severely diminshed bythe terrible film version.
Hogwarts and the lovely Harry Potter, all the things Edward is not, will last a lifetime. There will eventually come a day when you ask who Edward Cullen is, and why so many girls fell for the possesive vampire who dominates todays society.
When I first read Twilight, I was sort of stuck on it but I always knew Harry Potter would never be replaced.
I wouldn't say it's a legend because I think Harry Potter is the first book series that owned my heart. I am a solid Harry Potter fan, Twilight never wavered me even though I did like it. Harry Potter supporter and a Gryffindor at heart.
I agree with you. Bella's whole world revolves around Edward. Pathetic.
Twilight's characters are just plain depressing. Come on, a sparkling vampire, are you serious? GAYYYY. Jacob is the most realistic character in the books. And though they are fairly entertaining they get more attention than they should.
I also think of Harry Potter as a classic, I just love the books. There are so many great books out there but HP will always occupy a little space in my heart. =)
I read Twilight when it was recommended to me by a friend, this was during the beginning of Twilight-mania, I thought that it was amazing, I then went on to read the rest of the books of the series, I was so excited to read the last one that I finished it only after three days
after finished it my reading life dulled to a monotonous group of school required reading, and in a desperate attempt to find something good to read, I went to pick up Twilight one of my very favorites, or so I thought. I also wanted to see if it was as good as I thought it was, or if I was just fooling myself into it after the many other girls of my age fantasizing about Edward and his over romanticized brothers, it absolutely was not! I could only get to the scene when Bella saw him in the light for the first time and I nearly vomited all over the book, it was that bad. The way she described the both of them, how Bella gazed towards him in a god-like way nearly made me sick to the stomach! Absolute over indulgent dribble, afterwards I threw down the book and read something else that was much better, though it's not much of a feat to be better than Twilight, I'm sure a children's book could be called better.
As for the subject of Harry Potter, the entire series complete all of my favorite books, by far, and I believe that even when I am an adult I will be able to pick up a Harry Potter book and read it, remembering when my dad read the first one to me as a toddler, playing Harry Potter 'imaginative' games with my friends as an eight or ten year old and biting my nails over Harry's fate in the last book of the series.
The First Time I Read Twilight, I Liked It And When I Read The Rest Of The Series It Became Clear To Me That New Moon Was My Favorite. For Me Jacob Has A Much More Believable Personality And Is My Favorite Character.
But I Agree, Harry Potter Is By Far Better In My Opinion. For A Start It's Better Written And Has A Much More Enjoyable Plot, For Me Anyway. The Harry Potter Books Are Some Of The Only Books I Can Read Over And Over Again Without Becoming Tired Of The Same Thing. I Start Noticing Small Things About The Characters And Picking Up On Details I Overlooked Before The More I Read The Books.
I'm definitely on Harry's side. The people in it have actual emotions. You can relate with them.
Twilight, on the other hand, was so fake it makes Barbie and Micheal Jackson's nose look real.
Twilight started out as an okay story line for me. But when the media started talking about the big upcoming movie, I began to start hating the series. Everywhere I went, idiotic little girls were giggling about Edward Cullen and wearing his face plastered to their tee shirts. Had they even read the series? I highly doubt it.
A few years ago, I began reading the Harry Potter series. I was in love by the first sentence. J.K. Rowling actually has talent and you can see that especially well when you compare her books to Stephenie Meyer's.
To me, Harry Potter will always be a classic, along with books like Gone With the Wind, Huckleberry Finn, and many more memorable stories.
Frankly, Meyer is just not a skilled writer. Her characters are boring and unoriginal and her story lacks plot. Bella is a stupid girl who comes off as incompetent and Edward comes off as arrogant and materialistic, as well as abusive and stalkerish. I've seen many a Mibbian with more talent than Meyer and it infuriates me that they may never have a chance to become as big as Meyer, who doesn't even deserve her glory.
I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan, and will remain that way until the day I die. Suck it up, bitches.
Blah. It's amusing how you defended Harry Potter and instantly attacked Twilight.
I understand you're not a fan of Twilight but I believe that you shouldn't put your opinions on articles, it just makes the reader hate you. Use FACTS, on everything.
As I have said before, popularity wise, Twilight definitely outranks Harry Potter.
They are both very different books, two LEGENDS in two whole different genres
and LEGENDS between all the fans and loving supporters.
In conclusion, you can't compare Twilight to Harry Potter in any way, at all.
Or Harry Potter to Twilight. Either if it's to say that Harry Potter is better or to say that Twilight is better, whichever. They are both different genres, different authors, different thoughts. Different everything. Duh.
Okay, here's my general rant: Twilight could never be said in the same breath as Harry Potter.
Harry Potter took time and was so well-written -- readers can still re-read it every night and still enjoy it.
Twilight isn't that great of a piece of literature and the only reason it's so big is because teenagers positively jump at the idea of a love story that they wish would happen to them! The plot is terrible, the characters are all the same, and after you read it, you can't pick it up again because you know what happens -- Harry Potter has too many twists to remember.
Let's not ever compare the two novels, they were two completley different plots with two completley different styles of writing.
I almost feel as if Twilight was written down, which is something sad for a novel with so much potential. Harry Potter was a plot written full out, not diluted in the slightest.
But I also love the Twilight Series.
I found the vampires in the Twilight Series to be quiet refreshing. Their apart from the usual vampire stories, that consist of vampires sleeping in coffins and burning up if they hit daylight, while killing irrationally at night.
