Wow. I haven't posted in months but I felt compelled to comment on this....

America isn't "full of racists". There's just as many racists here as there are everywhere else. Singling out America and saying that we must stop racism here is just foolish. It's EVERYWHERE. Sorry, I just feel like the whole world is always trying to put a dunce cap on America. It's tiring. All in all, this article is very biased, uninformed, and discrimanatory in itself.

I'll be blunt; I do not like your article.

It was rude, to say the least.

And where the hell do you live that is so much better? Where there are no racists? Or do you live in America and just called yourself close minded racist?
Not only are Americans afraid of people from different countries, but of different religions too. That statement is so ridiculous! I know I am not afraid of somebody with different skin or if they worship something else. I don’t think anyone is afraid of them, they just do not like them.
Now, don’t twist that into me saying I don’t like people who look or act different because that isn’t what I meant, at all.

I have nothing to say other than you seem to be very misinformed about the meaning of racism. Racism is discrimination due to skin color, AKA race. Most of your article was discrimination in general.

Use a dictionary?

*I didn't mean I'd be annoyed if I was born in America but I'd be annoyed if I was classed as an american when I wasn't born there. Sorry It's late and I didn't read over it.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with most of the people who have commented. I know you don't want everyone saying the same thing over and over and that's why I'm not going to.

A person who is, for example, a mixture of German, Polish, and Russian would be considered an American, if they were in fact born in America. However, if someone who was only one of these ethnicities and was born in a different country, they may be treated differently.

Erm what? I'm Scottish and if I move to America I don't expect to be treated as an American. I wasn't born there and I would actually be quite annoyed if I was.I'm sorry but I just thought that seemed like a stupid point to me.

Racisim is absoloutly everywhere but the media puts it mainly on white people whereas other countries and races are most likely just as bad. Isn't that racisim in its own right? Where do you draw the line with it? What can be classed as racisim or not?

I don't think this article was very well timed either since the things with Prince Harry started. I'm sorry but it's just such a touchy subject, it was never a good idea.

I think this article is offensive and racist. So, it's okay to say we're racist but it's not okay for YOU to be racist?

This not only offended but also astounded me.

Does this article not also count as a form of racism? Though you've provided a somewhat convenient disclaimer saying, 'Not all Americans are racist'; you have effectively pre-judged an entire nation without knowing them. It is therefore also people like you who need to change their opinions. There is racism EVERYWHERE. In every single country, in every city, every county, there is racism. Of course, there is racism in America but there is also racism in England, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, the Middle East; it exists everywhere. I often feel people attack America as it is a country which many people feel it is 'okay' to criticise, because saying something like, 'Most of the people in China are racist' wouldn't be 'politically correct'. Before you post an article claiming everyone in America is racist and needs to be more open minded, think about the sheer hypocrisy of what you've written.

Americans aren't the only people who are capable of being racist. Thanks for skipping the most offensive terms, but I think we get it. Where the hell do you live, anyway?

The only good thing about your "article" is that it points out there is entirely too much hate in the world today, and too little tolerance and understanding.

Okay, one thing really bothered me when I read this. Mexican people are also discriminated often. It's "discriminated AGAINST", otherwise it doesn't make any sense. You did that a lot, and I winced every time.

The main problem in America, as far as I'm aware, is the self-imposed segregation of different nationalities - all the Italians in one area, all the black people in another, all the middle class white somewhere else... I'm not going to say that happens all over the US, because I've never been there and I can't say for sure, but I do know it happens a lot. Whenever you create in-groups (groups of people from one nationality for instance) you also create out-groups... which is pretty much anyone else. That's human nature; it's psychology. Mix groups up more in childhood and the levels of racism (or out-group prejudice) drop significantly.

Every country in this world has racists, there is no doubt about that
I've never been to america but I know there are racists over there and there are racists over here. Personally, I think that well I'm not saying EVERYBODY but I believe that in some point in life everyone has been racsit themselves, they just dont want to accept that.

I liked your article

Okay. I was wrong about the articles having to be nonfiction. I was thinking of news articles.

But that probably would've been the best way to organize your article.

As long as they aren't in the vicinity? So its ok to be rascist, as long as the people your being rascist against aren't around? Not only is that completely ridiculous, its pretty two-faced, all racism aside.

This article provides a distorted view of our country and its problems with racism, just like the media does. You say: "...society has made many of [its members racist], and people need to start making America a better place." It sounds to me like you got your information from your media, which makes your media just as biased as ours. Plus, that's a total opinion, because many of us choose to ignore what society has to say. You inject your opinion into the article, which is not what articles are supposed have in them. Any time someone says things like that is not truly providing information for the public, which is what an article does, but rather ranting/journaling/whatever. Even still, the article writer may only provide half the story, distorting the information without providing an opinion, which is manipulation, which our media is fond of.

You also say: "Certainly not all Americans are racists, for, that would be racist to accuse them of such a thing." Basically, you just said "I can't call Americans racist because that will make me look bad." Honestly, you shouldn't have written this article. Racism is such a heavy, touchy subject and I don't think a person foreign to the United States or somebody who hasn't at least visited it and gotten a good, clear picture of what it's like can do it enough justice.

I agree with everyone who has said racism is everywhere.
Because it IS everywhere.
You see it on the news, in books and probably around you all the time.
But I don't see that every American is a racist, and that America is the only place for racists.
Everyone has their own opinion on certain things in life.
Sadly, some people do like the dwell on the past and past issues on race.
But obviously we are way past that now in the year 2009.

I also agree with Jepha on making jokes on each other. <-----
I mean, I'm a black teen going to a all white school, were the minority percentage in the entire district is about less than 25%.
So when people call me the whitest black girl they have ever seen, I can laugh with them about it.
It's nothing personal, just stating a fact about how I look to them considering the fact I don't act upon the stereotype my race has.
I believe that Americans are aware of the many cultures and religions that our country has.
So for you to seem like America is the only country that is dominantly racist, it's crazy to me.
I sorry if it seems like bashing your article, but I again agree with most.
Think about what you are publishing before you publish it.
It seriously could offend many people.
