Setting Up A Horse Show Stall

  • Before you let your horse into his stall, do a thorough check for any hazardous nails, boards, or other dangerous things. Remove nails protruding from the walls or rocks sticking out of the floor.
  • If there are any gaps between the boards make sure your horse cannot stick his foot through. Nailing up sheets of plywood around the lower half of the stall or or hanging up sheets of heavy duty material, they sell easy to put up plastic tarps at boating supply stores which work well for this.
  • Instead of laboring over screw eyes for buckets, use a stable gun. They are easy, you can use them anywhere. Staple guns are a great thing to have, not just at shows but around the barn as well.
  • If the show grounds are using temporary stabling find out whether you will have to bring a door or one will be provided for you.
  • If you are showing in the summer, bring extra bell boots and a cooler full of ice. Put the bell boot upside down on a stressed joint and fill it with ice.
  • Have fun! If you aren’t having fun your horse will be tense, so relax and take a deep breath showing is fun, hectic but fun.
