Here I am

Tyler held her. "Hailey please calm down. Do you remember what happened? Try to remember." Tyler said calmly. Tyler was careful not to hurt her and was trying to calm her.

"We where lucky no one got hurt." she said. "I really was debating on wether to put a hot flame under Kayle or not." Phoenix sighed. "So Deric why do you hang out with me as often as you do? I never could understand that one." she said.

Hailey slumped in his arms and pressed her face against his chest. "I'm fine, I'm good." she whispered softly but she made no move to get away from him. She stayed in his arms and for the first time she realized she felt completely safe.

Deric grinned at her and winked. "You mean you don't enjoy my wonderful company. Honestly, I find you interesting. You are always strong and witty even if you don't say all your comments. I like being around you because you are the one person who doesn't seem completely freaked out that I can read your thoughts."

Tyler held her more and leaned his head on hers. She felt good in his arms. Something was different about her there. Tyler then pulled his head back. "Alright but will you please let Crystal heal you the rest of the way you'll feel much better then you should eat." Tyler said and looked down at her.

Phoenix ran a hand through her hair a light blush popping up on her cheeks when he blushed and gave her that smile. Yeah he was attractive. "I like your company, your honest." Phoenix laughed. "You think I'm interesting, wow first time I got that and not intimidating." she said . "And I am not witty, I don't know how to be. And as for you reading my thoughts well sometimes it;s helpful and you keep most of the embarrassing or hurtful things to yourself." Phoenix smiled up at him.

Hailey shook her head gently to clear her thoughts and stepped away from him. She felt a pang of loss when his arms weren't around her. Looking at the nurse, she looked down ashamed that she had jumped away from her. "I'm sorry." she whispered, her cheeks flaming.

Deric grinned at her and winked. "Aww thanks." he whispered at her. He stepped closer to her and touched her hair. He tucked it behind her ear and leaned close. "How do you feel about me? Say it...please." he whispered gently.

"That's quiet fine." Crystal said and offered her to sit down. "I'm nearly done." she said smiling. Tyler took Hailey's hand then slowly let go as Crystal started to heal her again. Tyler stood right next to her smiling down at her wanting to take hold of her again.

Phoenix felt her heartbeat speed up and her breathing a little as well. She shivered as he tucked her hair behind her ear. "Deric." she whispered, her strength seeming to mold into something soft. "I... I think your attractive." Phoenix bit her bottom lip.

Hailey looked away fron Tyler afraid of what she was thinking. She shouldn't be thinking this way about a guy who was dating a girl. She didn't want to be one of those girls. When the nurse finished she stood up and wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. She felt starving and bit her lip.

Deric leaned in, letting his lips brush against the skin under her ear. "I think you are attractive too."

Tyler smiled at Hailey. He took her hand and picked her up. "Close your eyes." he whispered to her then when she blinked he ran to the cafeteria and set her down. "What do you like to eat?" Tyler asked as he held onto her hand. He wasn't letting go tell she was better. He didn't like how pale she was. She needed to eat. She must have really pushed herself in there.

Phoenix shivered. "Deric." She grabbed his hand. "PLease stop before I think something I shouldn't." she said in her mind. She had cut off a thought before it had really produced all he got was their lips connected in something more then kiss a sweet little kiss. Phoenix bit her bottom lip and slowly looked over at Deric.

Hailey blushed when he picked her up and she gasped softly when he put her down. "I..." she looked around with wide eyes. She looked around and hesitantly reached out to take a piece of bread. Biting her lip, she looked down. She didn't know what to do with herself when she had so many choices. she looked down at him holding her hand and she blushed.

Deric grinned at her and pulled away. "I wouldn't mind kissing you either." he said softly. "How fast is your heart beating?" he whispered to her gently. He leaned down and kissed her cheek gently.

Tyler chuckled. "I'll never get tired of doing that." Tyler smiled. "Here how about we get you some real food." he said and grabbed a tray and started to pile food on. "And what ever you don't eat I will." he said and smiled at her. Tyler took her hand and lead her to a table. He had her sit down and then placed the tray in front of them. "Eat up." he said.

Phoenix blushed. She bit her lip. "To fast." she thought about her heart beat. She shivered from his kiss on her cheek. "You know you're the only one that I don't mind reading my mind." Phoenix thought and looked at him and into his eyes. "But you really should try not to before you hear something you shouldn't." she said and smiled. She had several things rush through her mind all of them fuzzy. She smirked.

Hailey looked at the tray in front of her and bit her lip. She took an apple and took a bit out of it before he eyes drifted to Tyler mad she blushed. Looking down at the table, she set the apple down on it. "I can't eat when you are staring at me like that." she said softly. "At least eat something yourself." She looked up when she heard someone pull up a chair next to Tyler. "Tyler baby, I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again ever. I love you." she heard Kayle say.

Deric watched her and grinned. "I'm glad to don't mind me reading your mind." he kissed down her cheek to her neck, he nuzzled her neck for a moment before pulling away and looking at her. He grinne widely "Smart woman." he said, referring to the fuzzy images in her head. He leaned down and kissed the corner of her lips. "You hungry?" he asked as he pulled away. "I believe something is about to happen in the cafeteria."

Tyler frowned. He took a pice of Pizza turning more to Hailey. "Sorry I don't mean to stare." he said ignoring Kayle. He took a bit and frowned when she used her powers to pull him to look at her. She had the power to create, bend, and destroy nonliving matter. Tyler looked at her frowning. "No Kayle, you hurt her. That's bad, that's what they do. You could have killed her. It was cowardly and selfish." Tyler turned again back to Hailey.

Phoenix gasped when he kissed her neck. She had thought of that before as she compared them and found the real experience better. She smiled when he said she was smart. "I hung out with you enough to build a defense." she said smiling then felt her lips open slightly as he kissed the corners of her mouth. She bit her lip when he asked is she was hungry. She was confused then he said something as about to go on and she stood. "You keeping tabs on the new girl?" Phoenix asked and started out walking with a purpose having now doubt Deric would follow.

Hailey felt something wrap around her. It felt like a snake, curling aroun her skin. It made her feel powerless. She opened her eyes wide to look at Tyler, not knowing what was going on but just as she looked at him, her head was jerked with enough force to send her crashing to the ground. She caught herself by her wrists and rolled away, hoping that the worst was over. Se leaned against a chair from another table, watching as Kayle tried to get Tyler to talk to her.

Deric ran up behind her and grinned. "Of course I have. She has an incredible knack at being we're trouble is." Deric walked with her as they turned into the dinning hall.

Tyler stood. "It's over Kayle get use to it!" he said and snarled going to Haile. He wouldn't slap her though he wanted to.

Phoenix saw Hailey get pulled out of her chair and Phoenix stepped into veiw looking at Kayle. "That's enough!" she yelled flames coming in her plams. She walked over to her. "You're going to leave her alone and if you don't your going to have third degree burns all over your body." Phoenix was right up in Kayle's face her burning hand nearly on the girls throat. Phoenix eyes staired into hers as they flickered from like a cat's narrow puiples to normal.

Hailey stood up shakily before looking at everyone. She walked to Phoenix. She knew that the flames would hurt a bit but she had experienced it all before. She touched Phoenix's arm gently. "Come on. Calm down. Phoenix?" she whispered softly.

Deric stepped forward and walked to stand in front of Tyler. "Don't hit her. She isn't worth it. Right now, if you really care that much, when Hailey is done calmin Phoenix down, take her away for a while, okay?"

Phoenix looked at Hailey. She breathed a few times then took her hand away. She made the fire in her hands go away. She blinked and rolled her shoulders her eyes returning back to normal. Phoenix reached out and ran a cooled finger over the bruise forming over Hailey's neck. She nodded and once Hailey pulled back Phoenix slapped Kayle and walked away. She hadn't used her gift all it was was a normal slap.

Kayle's eyes teared up as she held her face trembling. She wouldn't mess with Hailey anymore, no one would. Phoenix was Hailey's safety net. If they hurt her on purpose Phoenix would be there and kick their ass.
Tyler nodded. He went over to Hailey and brought her into a hug and as she blinked he ran out to the river and then set her down. He sat by the water's edge hopping Haliey would find the water calming.

Hailey gasped. One second she was in the cafeteria and the next she was next to a river. She say down heavily and looked up at Tyler. "A little warning would be nice." she said teasingly. Looking down at the eyed, she felt herself start to tremble. She had just willingly walked into fire. She bit her lip and wrapped her arms around her knees.

Deric looked at Kayle and grinned evilly. "Don't even think for a second that you don't deserve what you got. Of you do...I'll know." he turned to look at Phoenix. "Hey? You ready to eat? I'm starving. It had been quite an exciting day."

Tyler pulled her into his arms. "Phoenix wont hurt you." he looked at her hand. It was just a little red but nothing bad. He pushed her hair back looking at her neck. "I am sorry." he said. "I never wanted you to get hurt." Tyler rubbed her back feeling her trembling.

Phoenix laughed. Kayle ran out of the room crying. Phoenix rolled her eyes and then started in the food line. "Mmm, pulling it all back takes to much work. I rather just be on fire right now." she said. She had done that once or twice before just walking around her entire body engulfed in flames. It was a copping mechanism.

Hailey leaned against Tyler's chest and slowly her trembling stopped. She felt him touch her neck and she shivered softly. "Thank you." she whispered softly. She turned around to look at him. "Why do you care so much about me?" she whispered softly.

Deric grinned at her and chuckled. "That's quite the image." he said softly. "I'm glad you didn't I'm not gonna lie. You are a little harder to mess with and tease when you are on fire."

Tyler nodded. He moved a strand of her hair behind her ear. He looked into her eyes. "I'm not sure yet. It started out as me just being me and protective of the new kids till they got settled but then you... where just so different and kind and sweet. And you have this underlinging streangth. Like your just screaming that being couragous is being being full of fear and acting anyways." Tyler looked into her eyes. "You just... fit... right here." he said poinging to his chest where his heart would be.

Phoenix chuckled. "Yes this I am." she said and then went and sat down. She looked at Deric thinking about earlier. She still didn't get it really. How could someone so normal like, other then the mind reading, think she was interesting in a way other then a lab rat.

Hailey bite her lip and in a moment of bravery, she leaned forward and kissed the spot where his heart was. She pulled away and looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes. She leaned forward, wanting the conform of his heat. "Thank you for standing up for me." she said softly. "No one has ever done that before." she kissed his cheek gently.

Deric sat down next to her and casual rested his arm on the back of her seat. "I think you are interesting because you are smart, funny, sweet, fiery, and awesome." he said as he popped a fry into his mouth. He grinned and winked at her.
