One Defense

Sammie looked at him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze, trying to make him forget about the needle as the nurse came closer. She pulled away and looked at him. It's okay, she mouthed to him gently, hoping that he would honestly believe her and she smiled gently.

Alex smiled as he felt her fingers on his forehead. "I know," he said gently as he watched her. "Which is why I want to be there for all of them," he said before letting is hand drop when a nurse walked in. He sighed softly as she began to check over him and let out a pain filled help when she poked his side too hard.

Jake didn't like fucking needles. He didn't like being injected with shit. He looked away from the needle, his jaw set. He looked back at Sammie and then kissed her forehead and gave a smile and told her, "I'm fine. Just don't like them is all."

Anya pushed his hair back gently, keeping it there. She heard him, and nodded. She then tilted her heard his words, and murmured, "Why?" She heard the nurse walk in, and kept her fingers on his forehead pushing his hair back. She heard the yelp, and took his hand gently. She gave him a small smile.

Sammie nodded as she leaned against him. After a moment, the nurse stepped away and she smiled up at him before flashing him the thumbs up sign. Leaning up, she kissed his cheek gently before puling away slightly. She wanted to ask him so many thing but couldn't find the words to do so at least not now.

Alex's pain filled gaze met hers as he tensed again. She was feeling were the knife had hit him but since it had been less than 24 hours, it was still quite tender to the touch. His hand gripped hers but he made sure that it wasn't too right. He groaned again as sweat began to break out on his forehead and he tried to stay calm.

He watched her. He sighed as the nurse left and muttered, "I hope she had to clean out bed pans." He pouted. He then smiled at the girl in his arms and held her closely. He kissed her head an murmured, "you look like you want to ask me something." He stroked her hair but didn't watch her. He knew how it felt to be watched and didn't want her thinking he wanted her to talk. He did, but he didn't mind.

Anya watched him gently. She felt his hand and held his gently. She didn't mind at all. She saw the sweat on his forehead. She frowned at the nurse gently. She reached forward and put a hand on his cheek and then gently kissed him. She needed him to focus on something other than the pain. She hoped this helped. She didn't want him in pain. She had closed her sapphire eyes. She kept her hand in his.

Sammie watched him for a moment before looking away and biting her lip. "Why did you do this?" She whispered in a voice so soft that it was almost a whisper. Her voice still seemed scratchy from lack of use and she had to work hard to form the words. She fell silent again as she looked up at him. Curiosity sparkled in her eyes as she smiled at him gently.

Alex held her hand in his and he sighed when the nurse finally stopped poking him. His body sagged against the bed as he let outa soft sigh of relief. Taking a moment to recover, he smiled gently up at her. "It's not as bad as it looks," he said with a wince before wiling his forehead with the back of his hand and sighing again.

He heard her voice and a grin broke out into his face. He then said, "Because. It was first off the right thing to do, and second off...well let me jus show you." He murmured taking her head gently
In his hand and bringing her face to his before kissing her. He pulled away after a few moments and gave her a smile.

Anya watched him. She heard his words and snorted. "It's much worse." She raised an eyebrow and said, "Been here, done this." She then shrugged lightly. She propped her chin up with her hand and looked out the window. She waited for him to speak again. She gave a soft yawn. She glanced back at him for a moment.

Sam smiled when he spoke before she relaxed. She looked at him after the kiss as a light blush painted her cheek. Reaching up, she tucked some of her hair behind her ear and smile up at him. She leaned up and kissed his cheek gently, trying to thank him for what he had done for her and for her sister. Pulling away, she blushed harder.

Alex scooted over in the bed and he smiled at her gently. Leaning forward, he pulled her gently onto the bed with him and kissed her forehead. "Rest some. I'm okay and everyone is safe and you need to sleep," he said as he held her gently. He didn't care about the pain as he smiled gently down at her. "I'll keep you safe."

Jake smiled and then pulled her into his arms and just relaxed gently against her. He ran a hand through his hair gently before snuggling her. He felt her kiss his cheek and looked down at her. He saw her blush and smiled softly.

Anya blinked when he had pulled her on the bed. She raised an eyebrow up at him. She heard him and sighed shaking her head. She then said, "I'll be fine, Alex." She told him looking at him gently she ran a hand through her hair and then rested her head on his chest and murmured, "You seemed tired as well."

Sam smiled as she leaned her head agains this chest and slowly began to relax against him. She liked being in his arms, being with her. Her eyes widened when the door was thrown open and a woman hurried in. "Jake baby are you okay??" she asked as she moved to his side and cupped his cheeks. "Is that girl the reason you are here?" she demanded as she glared at Sam and Sam shied away.

Alex looked down at her for a moment before nodding slowly. "I'm exhausted," he admitted with a shrug, "but you are too so I can stay up for now," he said gently as he held her close to him. "Get some sleep Anya," he said gently to her, hoping that she would listen to him.

Jake smiled down at Sammie. He then held her close and shut his eyes relaxing against her. He heard the door open and his eyes opened. He heard his mom and blinked his eyes open. He looked up at her as she took his cheeks. He winced a bit his head pounding now. He looked at her and said, "Mom, this is Sam. Leave her out of it. I did my own damn self for good reasons too. If you want to be mad at anyone, it's me. Keep her out of it." He said calmly. He got up and stood in front of Sam. He almost swayed a bit, but he steadied himself.

Anya heard him and frowned up at him. She then said, "Well then you need sleep. I'm used to not sleeping...you aren't." She told him. She saw his worried eyes and said, "I'm not a piece of glass that's going to shatter." She sighed. She then ran a hand through her hair gently. She sighed and muttered, "Sleep along with me, then. Otherwise, I won't sleep." She told him looking at him steadily.

Sammie quickly moved over to him and placed herself under his arm gently so that she could help support him. She looked u at him worriedly as she moved him back over to the bed. Glancing over at his mom, she bit her lip and looked away. "Get away from him. You have done enough," said his mom as she grabbed Sammie's arm roughly and threw her out of the room before shutting it firmly.

Alex looked down at her for a moment before he turned his gaze back up to the ceiling. "Okay," he said softly. "Sleeping sounds good," he said as he tried to stay awake but his eyes drooped. He soon was drifting off to sleep with her held against him. He could finally sleep easy knowing that she was here with him and safe.

Jake got on the bed and breathed heavily. He eat he and started yelling at his mom. He got himself up again and pushed past him mom. He then said, "When you're ready to apologize to her, then you can visit me. Otherwise, get out." He said coldly and left to go see Sammie. He found her and pulled her into his arms and kissed her head and said, "I'm so sorry."

Anya nodded and then closed her eyes. She sighed and murmured, "You need it." Sh watched him fall asleep and curled up against him and fell asleep there lightly. She twitched in her sleep her face buried in his chest as she slept. She had cold sweat going down her back. She then made herself remember Alex was right there and calmed.

Sammie looked up when he came out and took her in his arms. Her eyes widened as she wrapped her arms around him. She shook her head and motioned for him to go back to her room. Reaching up, she touched his arm gently and kissed his cheek before she pulled him back into his room gently and motioned him to the bed.

Alex continued to hold her close to him even in his sleep before his eyes flickered open. Sighing softly, he ran his fingers through his hair as he kissed her forehead gently. Looking up at the ceiling, he sighed softly and tried to relax as he kissed her again before he looked up at the ceiling and smiled gently.

Jake shook his head. He then said angrily, "Not
Until she leaves." He held her close leaning against the wall to keep him upright. He stroked her hair and closed his eyes. He was as tense as he felt. He calmed himself by stroking her hair.

Anya woke up much later. She took a deep breath as she did so. She shuddered and then came awake. She saw him awake and said, "How long have you been awake?" She tilted her head her hair falling down on one side. She bit her lip gently. She gave a gently yawn softly.

Sammiw leaned her head against his chest gently and nodded. She wrapped her arms around his waist to help steady him as she continued to hold him. She listened to his heartbeat and smiled gently as she felt his body slowly relax against her.

Alex looked down at her for a moment an he smiled gently at her. "I've been up for a little bit but nothing to worry about. Did you sleep okay?" He asked curiously as he watched her for a moment before leaning down and kissing her forehead gently.

Jake held her protectively and gently. He then closed his eyes leaning his forehead against hers. He then opened his eyes to look at her beautiful green eyes and smiled. "Beautiful." He told her. He heard his mom leave and turned to watch her coldly. He started towards the door gently.

Anya frowned and then nodded. She asked, "Would you like to walk around, or not move?" She figured not move, but something's ever change. She ran a hand through her hair and looked up at him. She gave a softened smile feeling his kiss on her forehead.

Sammie looked at him and blushed deeply when he kissed her. She walked with him back into the room and smiled gently at him. Moving over, she kissed him again lightly before pulling away and sitting down on the chair next to his bed with a gentle smile.

Alex looked at her for a moment and he kissed her forehead again before he pushed himsefl up. "Please, let's go for a walk or something," he said with a gentle smile on his face as he ran his fingers through his hair and smiled down at her.

He grinned softly. He went to his bed and laid down. He saw her sitting in a chair and said, "I'm
Not going to break you know." He gave her a smile and then gave a soft yawn. He then turned on his side with great difficulty and looked at her smiling.

Anya got up gently and then said, "I knew you were going to say that." She held out her hand to help him up. She gave one of her older, and sweeter smiles. The ones she just gave to Sammie anymore. She looked not so mean today. She looks sweet.

Sam looked at him and smiled gently before she moved and climbed into the bed. She laid down so that she was looking at him with a gentle smile on her face. Smiling gently, she reached out and brushed some hair out of her face before she yawned slightly.

Alex watched her ad chuckled softly. "I'm predictable," he said as he took her hand and slid out of bed. He grinned when he saw her smile but he didn't comment, some things were better left alone, he thought as he leaned over and kissed her cheek gently.

Jake pulled her into his arms and looked down at her. She was perfect in his eyes already. He thought he loved her too. He gave a smile. He saw her yawn and said, "You tired still?" He looked at her concerned and kissed her head.

Anya helped him up. She felt him not let go of her hand and then kiss her head. She then began to walk with him. She asked, "Outside or inside?" He glanced over at him an eyebrow raised. She waited for his reply. She gave a gentle yawn and then walked with him.
