Remus smiled at them and looked st Ferne in concern. “If someone better comes along I’ll understand,” He smiled. “But if not I’d be honored to take you.”

A part of her felt as if her heart fell, was he asking her out of pity? A lone girl at the dance was always something people made fun of, "No one better could come along, Remus," she said as she looked ath im then smiled weakly before looking down at her food.

He smiled a little,"Right, sure - he is a tosser; have you heard he dated a 3rd year this year - thats downright demented,"

She sighed. “That’s not possible, or likely, Sirius. Especially since he’s been dating me since August,” She told him. “Plus my choice of date shouldn’t bother you this much, he’s a kind person.”

He smiled and looked at his plate. “If you say so, but I won’t be surprised. Just promise me you’d save Me a dance,” He laughed but partially meant it.

She looked at him then sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck, "I'm going to head out I'll meet you guys there I forgot my coin purse in the room," she said as she laughed weakly.

“I find it very funny that you’re the one to lecture me about decent men, Sirius. You’re no better you know,” She reminded him, making a face.

Remus stood. “I can come with you if you want me to,” He offered. “I was just about done anyway, besides, I don’t want to be stuck at the table with those two,” He admitted.

She looked up and nodded, "sure," she smiled a little as she fixed her scarf then wet her lips, "Anything is better than listening to these two bicker," she snorted.

He scoffed,"I'll have you know I'm a great catch," he said to her wiggling his eyebrows.

“Might be the ego talking,” She said rolling her eyes. “And it doesn’t matter, he asked me so I’m going with him,” She told him.

Remus nodded in agreement. “Are you really alright with going with me?” He asked her. He knew she could do infinitely better but he would like to go with her and was happy she agreed.

"Of course," she said to him as she looked at him then down at her hands, did he not know? Gods, and she thought Sirius was dense. Maybe it was just the male population in general; that seemed to be a likely answer. "I wouldn't want to go with anyone else," she admitted softly her cheeks burning pink; she felt so vulnerable.

He scoffed, "I may have an ego but at least I don't fool around with 3rd years," he said making a face.

“He doesn’t fool around with 3rd years, Sirius!” She said in frustration. “Can’t you just be happy for me? I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d react like this.”

He looked at her for a second. “Oh. Really?” He asked her not realizing that. “That makes me happy, I thought you might want to go with... I don’t know someone like, well not like me.”

Ferne smiled as she looked at him, "What do you mean?" she asked him furrowing her brow, "Look," she sighed then looked around the common room entrance once they were there. She leaned closer, "I know, about... your furry friend," she trailed off, "you're no different to me than Sirius or James, I've liked you since 2nd year it's going to take more than that to deter me,"

"I'm only reacting this one cause it's him, he's a right prat who does unmentionables with young girls it's quite an undesireable trait - I'm lookin' out for you!" he said to her sighing.

She stared at him. “First of all Sirius, that’s disgusting. Why would you even spread a rumor like that, and I feel like you’re just saying this so now I don’t have anyone to go with,”

Remus stopped short and stared. “What? I...what are you talking about?” He asked her wondering how she knew.

"Ravenclaw," she said as she pointed to herself with a small smile then touched his arm, "It doesn't bother me, Remus. Like I said it'll take more than that to sway me, wait here okay? I'll be right back," she said as she went into the ravenclaw common room to get her coin purse.

She rolled her eyes. “So you’re telling me that who I’ve heen talking to for a month has been messing around with third years and now I don’t have anyone to go to the ball with,” She said, crossing her arms.

He watched her walk away and stared at the ground not knowing how she had reacted so calmly. Part of him didn’t even expect her to come back he couldn’t believe it.

"Of course you do love! You can go with me," he said to her smiling as she looked at her.

She walked out of the dorm then smiled, "Hey, ready?" she said to him with a small smile as she wet her lips a little, "What color robes will you be wearing I want to compliment you," she said to him.

She glared at him. “Oh piss off, Sirius! You tell me my dates a creep just to offer yourself and probably because you didn’t ask anyone yourself, no,” She said, pouting to herself.

He shrugged. “Um whatever I can find in Hogsmeade really, hopefully black though. What color dress did you want?”

"Not decided," she said to him as she pushed some hair out of her face, "Maybe pink or something," she said undecidedly.

"We've only found out about the dance this morning, you never gave me a chance to ask you!" he said to her in retaliation.

“Yes well if you wanted to ask me you could have just asked me rather than tell me what Declan had been doing and then offer yourself up,” She said to him, sniffing and shaking her head.

Remus smiled. “I think you’ll look beautiful in pink,” He admitted. “Maybe I’ll find something to match to that,” He offered.

She flushed a little then nodded, "I'll let you know once I find a dress for sure," she said to him as she wet her lips a little.

He crossed his arms, "Well you let the bloke ask you 'fore i could even see you!" he said to her scowling.

She scowled back and sighed. “Yes well one would normally give the person they’re talking to priority,” She whined. “Besides, if it’s true I’ll find someone else, especially since I don’t feel like dealing with any of the people who want to go with you.”

He smiled and nodded. “You’re going looking in Hogsmeade? Good luck with finding one, I’m sure Lucy’s getting an earful from Sirius. Though he’s probably getting one too.”

She snorted a little then nodded, "Yeah, they're a mess wish they'd just accept each other they obviously like one another," she said to him laughing a bit before sighing.
