“You’re not going to get fat, yes you’re going to gain weight but you need too. You’re like my sister, when she got pregnant, she lost all the weight right afterwards.” Jamie said and looked at her.

Poppy held the budge of her nose and shook her head. "J.. I don't know how much more of your hopeless optimism I can take" she admitted and tapped the bed for him to come sit with her.

Jamie chuckled and moved to sit on the bed with her. “Just being honest.” He said and looked at her. “Please promise me, no matter how much weight you gain, you won’t do something stupid.”

"Like what?" She asked him, laying back on the bed, keeping one eye open to watch him. She could feel tears prickling at the back of her eyes constantly, and did her best to hold them back.

She was almost two months pregnant, that was a long time to not know. "Jamie.. what if I've already fucked it up?"

“You haven’t done anything reckless, Poppy. If it will make you feel better, we can schedule a doctor appointment and go tomorrow.” Jamie said.

"But what if somebody sees me there J... or tells my mom? She's a nurse for gods sake." She huffed, tears beginning to fall again. Jamie's optimism was beginning to get on her nerves, she felt awful and he was treating it like it was going to be this great thing. "Will you put on a movie? I want to get my mind off it for a bit?" She asked him gently, her hand playing with a loose string on the hem of his shirt.

“Yeah.” Jamie sighed and got up. He grabbed her laptop and put on Netflix before sitting back down with her. “We can go to the doctors in the next town over, that way no one will know..” he said.

Poppy nodded in agreement, she just wanted him to shut up about it for a few minutes and let her forget she had ruined her whole life.

She wiped the tears away from her eyes, hugging a pillow to her chest as they watched the movie. She gently lay her head on his shoulder, and within a few moment had begun to snore lightly.

Jamie smiled and gently laid her down before shutting the movie off. He kicked his shoes off and covered her up with a blanket before laying down beside her, also falling asleep.

When Poppy woke up a few hours later, she could hear one of her parents moving around downstairs. Checking the time she realised she had been asleep for almost 5 hours. She gently shook Jamie to wake him rubbing her eyes.

Her hands immediately fell to her stomach, her face falling along with them. She sighed and looked to Jamie. "Will you stay here tonight? I'll tell mom we're doing a project. I need to make a plan and I don't want to do it alone"

“Yeah, of course.” Jamie yawned but smiled. “I’m hungry now, what about you?” He asked her as he stood up.

Poppy nodded vigorously "yeah I'm starving, almost like I'm eating for two" her joke fell flat, her two fists clenching at her sides trying to control her frustration. She was trying to hide some of her upset from Jamie, not wanting him to feel like he needed to hold her pieces together, none of this was his fault after all.

"I feel like I need to tell Evan soon" she admitted.

“We can go tomorrow?” Jamie said and chuckled at her joke. “That was pretty funny, Pops.” He said as he got out of her bed and waited for her. “It’s going to be okay, okay?”

Poppy nodded "yeah tomorrow is okay, lets go eat" She led Jamie downstairs, her heart beating a mile a minute as her mom came in to sit in the kitchen. She felt like she would just look at her and know.

"Hey honey how was your day? Oh Jamie hi! Are you staying for dinner?" Her mom asked happily, pulling a roast chicken out of the oven.

Jamie smiled, “Yes Mrs. S, I figured I’d come over and hang out with my best friend.” He chuckled. He looked at Poppy, giving her a smile, “we also have a school project we needed to work on.”

Poppy smiled back at him, nodding at her mom "Yeah mom, Jamie is gonna stay tonight if it's okay, it's probably going to be a late one, It's due tomorrow" she lied quickly. Her mom shook her head softly "Yes, him staying is fine but Poppy, we have already spoken about you leaving your work until last minute, don't do it again" she scolded as she began to carve the poultry.

Poppy sighed, and slowly began to set the table, anything to distract her from what was really going through her head.

“Don’t worry Mrs. S, I’ll make sure she gets it done.” Jamie smiled and then helped Poppy with setting the table:

Poppy rolled her eyes, Jamie could be such a suck up at times. Her no her adored him, and made no efforts to hide it.

She was beginning to wish she just stayed in her room, not wanting to be questioned about school from her parents. "We better eat Quick J, we really have a lot of work to do" she said, her eyes wide as she looked at him.

Jamie nodded. “Sounds good to me, Pops.” He said and thanked Poppy’s mother whenever she handed him a plate of food. Once everyone was sitting down to eat, they started asking each teen questions about school.

Poppy's younger sister Alice and her father Frank joined them at the table, Ate as quick as she could, just giving short answers to everything her parents asked her.

As soon as she was finished she grabbed her plate and Jamie's too, nor caring whether he was finished or not and put them in to the dishwasher. "Thanks for dinner mom!" She shouted already on her way towards the stairs. "Come on Jamie, we need to get that project finished!"
