“Shhh don’t cry. I know you’re not.” Jamie said and rubbed her back. “Come on.” He said, leading the crying Poppy to his car. He helped her in before getting in the driver’s seat.

"I can't leave J, what if they call my parents?" she heaved as he helped her in to the car. She felt stupid for holding out such high hopes for Evan, but she just really wanted her baby to know it's Dad and feel part of a family. she pulled her knees to her chest her body shaking with every sob. the front strands of her pink hair were turning grey as they mixed with the tears and mascara running down her face. "My life is over J, I'm worthless"

“We’re not leaving, I’m just letting you calm down before we go back inside and stop that.” Jamie said, taking her hand, “you’re not worthless and your life isn’t over. I told you, Pops, if you don’t want the baby, I’ll adopt him or her.” He said as he rubbed his thumb over her knuckles.

Poppy slowly but surely stopped crying and began to breath normally again. Grabbing a makeup wipe from her back she took off whatever makeup remained on her face and scrope her hair back in to a ponytail. she took a deep breath and looked at him "I do want it J.. I just, I really want it to grow up proud of its parents, but it'll just see a mousy single mum who made some really shitty choices in high school"

Jamie thought for a moment. “What if I sign the birth certificate?” He said and sighed. “I may not be the biological dad but I want to be a part of the baby’s life...please?”

"Jamie... I don't know about that..." poppy told him gently, she knew that was a really big responsibility for anyone e to take on and she didn't know if she was ready to stick Jamie with it.

“Why not?” Jamie asked as he looked over at her. “It’s okay, Pops, really..” He added.

Poppy shrugged "I'll think about it okay? I just have a lot to think about". Poppy knew Jamie would look after her baby like it was his, but she was afraid. What would happene when Poppy eventually found a guy she wanted to settle down with? Would Jamie still insist on being the baby's father?

Jamie nodded. “No rush, doll. You ready to go back?” He asked as he handed her a tissue to wipe her masscara away.

Poppy finished cleaning up her face and nodded "yeah let's get going, I'm really hungry" she told him, flashing a friendly smile. "Thanks for everything J"

“Well it is lunch time,” Jamie chuckled and looked at her with a smile, “Don’t worry about it, Poppy. You’re my best friend, I wanna help you.”

Poppy linked her arm in his and headed towards the cafeteria. She loaded her tray up with food and happily brought it back over to the table, sitting down with Jamie. "So when do you think I should tell my parents?" she asked him, picking up the slice of pizza that was infront of her and taking a large bite.

“I’d tell them before you really start showing.” Jamie aaid as he sat down with his own tray of food. “I can be there with you if you want.”

"That's in like less than a month" Poppy said gently, remembering that she had read online that the belly usually began to really expand at 3 months as the baby began shifting positions inside. "Yeah it might be good to have a little back up.. I just hope they don't really freak out." as Poppy was talking, she noticed people's attention begining to turn towards the door of the cafeteria where Evan had just walked in, red marks running down his face from where Poppy had clawed him.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be there with you, Pops.” Jamie said as he looked up and saw Evan. “You really did a number on his face.” He chuckled.

Poppy looked down in to her lap, avoiding Evan's gaze. She couldn't believe she had feelings for that asshole, or even more so still did. "I know you will J." she whispered and gave his arm a gentle squeeze before finishing her food.

Jamie smiled and watched Evan walk by, glaring at Poppy the whole time. “Let me know if he starts giving you problems.” Jamie told Poppy.

Poppy nodded at Jamie, remaining silent for the remainder of lunch as the first bell rang to send them back to class poppy got up, dumping her garbaage. she quietly pulled jamie aside from the crowd before going to class. "Hey... I just wanted to let you know that I don't need a ride home this evening"

“Are you sure?” Jamie asked as he dumped his trash in the bin and looked at her. “I really don’t mind helping, Poppy.” He sighed as he watched her.

Poppy shook her head "No honestly Jamie, I'm ahh, Meeting my Aunt for lunch so she's gonna pick me up" she told him quickly. with a nod. "I'll see you tomorrow? You can give me a ride to school?" she asked, having already begun to walk away.
