Heh. I was going to write a snarky comment about how those who look down their noses at people who write My Chem fiction should take a look at their own fandom.

    But I won't.

And I'm going to try that updating when everyone's online thing, you sneaks. ; ) I just have to master time zones first. Also, I think first you have to attract the readers. A story layout that is aesthetically pleasing is more likely to get attention than a story that can't be read because of an intrusive layout/bad formatting/too many pictures.

The only thing I know to do to attract people to read my stories ... is to make nasty or interesting summaries/story description.

I did the same with fandomination.net. And in there, the stories are arranged alphabetically, but I got a hell lot of feedback XD

though in here, I don't get a lot of comments, but one or two is fine, as long as they contain critics/suggestions or compliments and aren't "omg more please!"

Having a good summary is always a good aspect; if you just put the pairing for the summary, most people will probably just ignore it. Being a good writer obviously helps, although some horribly written stories end up with hundreds of comments.

In general, just putting yourself out there works well. I shamlessly whore out my stories on my other stories, so that does help a bit. :XD

Sometimes I tell my readers that I won't be updating a certain story for a while, because my other story got a hell lot more comments, so I'll be updating the other story instead XD
it's like a... the more the comments are, the sooner the update will be. It works : D

I go all, "Hey, I put the new story up," to my friends. :XD They comment. Very supportive.

Recently I've been whoring the pimp and rec thread, but I'm still not getting any comments. u.u At least I'm getting recs. :XD

Oh, and write a Frerard. Honestly. I experimented.

Write a Frerard, you get 3 stars at your fourth chapter. And that's coming from a very underground writer.
Write a het fic., and you'll still have one or two stars at your sixth chapter.

    :cheese:

But I guess it depends on your popularity.

Yes, sometimes it also depends on popularity.

Oh and catchy-ness of the title also helps, maybe not a lot, just a bit. :XD
Although, it just gets the people to read your summary.
But if you've come up with a really good summary to match up with your title, then they'll most likely read it, and more readers means more comments, I guess.

Yeah, but a lot of people skip the summary.

It seems to me that you have to be writting a slash or a fanfic of some sort in order to get undreds of reads and comments.

That's what ticks me off about being a writer of orginal stories. I personally know everyone who is subscribed to my stories and have gotten comments on them too.

I'm not going to write a fanfic or something just to be known.

Yeah, I think you just have to keep posting. Stick to what you started, no new story is going to get good right away, sorry!

Just keep trying, explore the sight and make new friends! It's the only way to go, the long way......

But people have the right to read what they want to read.
I write fanfic because that's what I like to write and it turns out people like to read them.

I know, they do have the right to read whatever. But I just don't understand why so much originality is...ignored (if you will) a lot of the time.

^Good fanfic does tend to have several degrees of originality to it, such as the plot, the interaction of the characters, OC's, etc.

And there are a few authors on here who don't write FF and are still known.

My favorite fanfics are the original ones, particularly AU.
There are original fanfics out there. There's just a lot of shitty ones covering the path to get to them.

One thing I've noticed is that you get more new readers, therefore new comments, if the story doesn't have that many chapter yet. With my main fanfic I actually started it a few months before I found mibba, and had about thirteen chapters I posted at one time here, and it took a while before I got more than two comments an update. If your story has a lot of comments, chances are that people will think it's better because of all the comments, that means readers typically like it. At least that's my reasoning...

I'll admit, it's difficult for me to find a original fic that is well worth a read. You're right.

Sadly, I agree. I get more comments on the first chapter and less comments as the story continues.

I use to read fanfics a whole lot but now I avoid them because I couldn't bare to see any more horribly written ones.
Though I enjoy original stories a whole lot more than fanfics.

I personally need advise on how to get people to give Constructive critism :tehe: I get loads of nice comments though.

I think if you ask them too in the authors note it helps.

    Actually...
The main idea for getting comments is:
    WRITE A FRERARD.

Or you could have some self respect and you know, not.
    OMFG. Same opinion over here.

    Anyways ^^

    Here's my tip:

This is for stories that aren't pre-written. At the end of each chapter ask a question. In the authors note ask people a simple yes/no question. As your story continues you can ask people's opinions.

I love asking people to predict events, describe my characters or give suggestions. It's even better when they give you an idea that's better than what you already had planned.

Yeah, using that tip has earned me more comments than subscribers.

    *winks,* Yeah. *pops collar*
