I have only gotten comments from like one person on all my stories and shes my best friend :( i write one shots and join contests but its hard to get people to notice you when you write one shots. Also I have nothing to do with fanfiction (i dont have anything against them but they are not really my thing, ya know) and that seems to me like main thing here on mibba is fanfiction so little original fiction one shot writters dont really get noticed :(
PS. I am all in for this revolution thingie! XD

I've also noticed that stories with sex in it always has 10 stars and heaps of comments.
Really? God, I wish that applied to my NC-17 stories.
I just went through my 19 Panic stories with sex. (I only have 19? Whoa ... should fix that. Anyway...)
One of them does have 8 stars, but it only has 2 comments.
One has 10 stars, but 6 comments.
The one with ten stars and a high number of reviews is chaptered.
A few have ten stars. Very few have a high number of comments. Some have two, some have six, some have ten. A lot of those are probably one to two line comments.
So I don't think that sex makes my stories more reviewed. More read, probably. But not more reviewed.

People always say that fanfics get more comments and more stars, but that isn't always the case. One of my stories has eight stars and thirty seven comments, and it's an original, so. Granted, it's not all that original, but it's not fanfiction.

Personally, I'd say the way to get more comments is to write something people like, and to beg relentlessly for comments.
That's what I did until I got some, and it worked. File
Guilt-trips work too. But don't hold chapters to ransom or anything because that just pisses people off.

That normally only occurs if the title is hinting at sex, or even bluntly put.

I've skipped over many Het stories with 'regular' titles.

I think that people should take the time to comment about what they liked or didn't like in the story. It really helps us as authors.

I usually take the time to comment on stories that I like but sometimes when the writer demands 15 comments or they won't update, I don't bother to comment.
I even unsubscribe if they keep doing that after a few chapters.

Another thing that repels me from commenting on a story is if the writer says they want 15 comments from different people other than the ones that have been commenting or they won't update... I always wonder if the commenters that are staying faithful to the story, are they not enough?

I usually comment when the author asks, like if the story status or author's notes has "Comment please? I'd like constructive criticism." :) Do some people find that annoying? I don't if it doesn't sound demanding.

Like Dru said, the Story Review Game helps a lot; people can give you good criticism, and they might even subscribe :]

I think writing for popular band members gets you more comments too--"Deception" (my Alex Gaskarth story) has 110 comments. "Wishes Washed Away" (my Brendon Urie story) has 50 comments. But more comments doesn't always mean much; more than half my comments are probably "WRITE MOAR!!!iwuthgsidjf"

    To get worthwhile comments:
    Be original
    Have interesting characters
    Good plots
Basically- write a good story and you'll get comments

Failing to be original include the following people in your story and then rip them off :
    Gerard Way
    Frank Iero
    Pete Wentz

Also include vampires (i have a vampire story but because they actually motivate me) oh and one of those I'm dating my brothers friend?! I've been kidnapped by the hottest guy in school?! I'm in love with my best friend's cousin?! type story.

Yeah but stories I've seen with such titles as, off the top of my head:
    I'm Pete Wentz maid?!
A Jonas moved in next door?!
I'm touring with *insert band name*?!

They usually have lyk 8 stars and like 100+ comments.

I agree all the way. A review that's in depth shows me that my story really sank in to that person. Getting those when I don't play the story/review games feels great.

I started out writing original stories and I just told myself to be patient, and for a little bit it helped. Now, I do write fanfiction, and personally nothing has changed about the comments and readers. I think the story plot, characters, writing style have a lot to do with it.

A couple of my original stories have more than two stars. I think being yourself and not forcing people to comment always works. I'm pretty sure someone has mentioned the forums that help too.

I started out as a nobody here on Mibba a few months ago, the same time I posted my very first "real" fan fiction. At first, I had a lot more subscribers than comments, which didn't bother me.
As long as I know that people are/will be reading my story, I'm fine with it.
Then as time went on, I started getting more and more readers/subscribers/comments, and they basically said the same thing about how my writing was amazing and the plot was great and all that sort.
I don't mind the repetitive comments, because I know one or two things that makes me get more comments:
    1. Have a great plot. With alot of twists.
    2. Write as if you're about to get published. Be serious when it comes to writing. Real people are reading your work. Real people with real comments and criticism.

:) Eek. I sound like some writing therapist/expert.

As for that one, I think only if it works with the story. A lot of twists can actually get rather melodramatic and seem to drag on. My favorite stories don't have a lot of twists, actually.

I'm not certain that one is an overall way to get a lot of comments . . .

My stories with the most comments don't have a lot of twists. Granted, there is a difference between chaptered and oneshot writing, but too many twists in a chaptered story can give it the illusion of dragging it out.

I agree with this so much. Saying "I like this :D" really isn't all that greta. Or worse, saying "I don't like this."

Sorry, but it's just pointless in my opinion File I'd rather have no comments.

I actually hardly ever get comments. I used to back in the day when there wasn't as many people and I knew everyone that commented. Average number of comments per story are like... 3-4, but I don't update often.

I've noticed that the more often you update, the more comments (and readers, for the matter) you're likely to get.

I try to give authors my honest opinion.
It irks me when they don't do that for me.

I agree with this. I recently added a chapter to a story that I hadn't updated in a month, and since then doubled the readers and subscribers. ( Thanks, you guys! Dance )

First you need readers! And you must have decent writing abilities (so maybe this should have gone first).

Lol. Anyway, if you think you've got decent writing abilities but not enough readers, nominate your story on this site:
    Project Fiction.

It's got a pretty huge following, so if you get on the list, you get readers, and most likely get comments too. Surprised
