I love getting comments. They make me feel like what I'm doing is good and help me to improve on what needs improvement. Like, even one comment on another site said that she'd like to see this continue so that she could see the relationship between Michael and Harlow more which made me realize that I can't just drop Michael like I was going to do.

I like them, but I don't get near as many as I'd want.

I enjoy getting comments, although I mainly write for myself. It's nice to see that others enjoy what I'm writing, and it can sometimes be incredibly helpful, too.

It's also sometimes very inspiring; I've had comments before where the readers touch upon parts of the story I haven't put much thought into, and it helps me work on those aspects.

I get very few compared to my reader count, sadly.

XD well, sometimes, it just depends on what you're writing. OF's will tend to get noticed more if you update faster, but if you write about a subject that's popular at the moment, it'll probably get a lot more attention.
I usually just ask for comments, but personally, I'd rather have 2 great, long comments than 10 that just say "I LURV IT UPDATE SOON" and stuff like that.

    Shades of Grey:
People always say that fanfics get more comments and more stars, but that isn't always the case.
    Agreed.

My two most succesful fan-fics both have 6 comments and about 50 readers. One is because I put it in the story review game a few times, and the other is a Twilight parody tehe

But my most succesful story is an O.F (which only has 17 chapters) has 430 readers, 124 subscribers and 52 comments.
No famous person in it anywhere File

What really irks me is when you post con-crit on somebody's story and other people who comment slag you off for it. I once commented on somebody's story which had terrible grammer, pretty much every word was spelled incorrectly and no paragraphs were used. I made sure to suggest politely that they fix it because their story could get reported.

Another girl then commented telling the author to ignore me (and she reffered to me as a bitch. Lovely) because the story was 'perfect'.

Don't ask for con-crit if you can't handle it. Coffee

^I hate that. How can people think a story with bad grammar and punctuation is 'perfect'? Ugh, that irks me.

The story I have the most comments on is a a FanFic with a bit of a twist. I think if you have a different plotline, which is believable, even if it is not something that actually occurs in society then it can draw readers in. Also have enough drama, but also reflection, so it's not just go, go, go. If that makes any sense.

But less reviews a lot of the time, I tend to notice.

I like comments if they're constructive. I like to know what people like and don't like about my story. Most people forget the 'what you don't like part'. I hate when I ask for a review and people copy and paste all thier favourite lines and tell me how much they liked that line. Okay, great, tell me why at least.

I'd much rather know what I need to improve on than be shown what I'm already doing well. Don't get me wrong, I like praise just as much as the next person but I like to hear how much better my story can be.

    >.> I now whore out my stories on journals. And not only do I get comments, I get good reviews on them.
But, definitely, once you've gotten into the full swing of whatever you're writing, you're bound to get followers and more comments.
    (Well, for originals, anyway)

I'm not sure if this makes any sense to others beside me, but sometimes I don't mind the under 20 word comments because some are so sweet and they make me smile. For me, seeing my stories that have over 50 readers and that one person comments... it's like Happy face I like all comments and reviews though. People think comments and reviews are the same thing and they are not. There's a big difference! To get a good review (even on the story/review game) is hard because people just don't know the difference. I like comments if they're constructive as well, but anything for me will do, I'm still going to write stories no matter what I recieve.

I only really love the long comments and the reviews. I love it when one comes out of the blue and is really nice and constructive and makes you want to write even more. I don't care by the number of comments and even if a story doesn't get any comments I'll continue it because it's for me and I like to think someone out there is reading it. But long, decent ones are my favourite.

My NC-17 OF has 148 views and 22 comments.

No one had a problem letting me know they liked it.

I love getting comments, merely because it's nice to get feedback from people who are reading the work. It's kind of a bummer when you have like, 50+ readers and only 1 or 2, or even no, comments though.

I love getting comments, but I haven't been really lucky on that aspect. It seems I always pick the worst time to update my stories and only a couple at a time click on them. I've noticed that a lot of good stories don't get comments because of that reason also.

It really makes me lose enthusiasm in writing because I get insecure when I don't get freedback. I usualy don't really like the simple 'that was great update soon' comments because they don't say what they like and stuff, but I've started even craving those from how little comments I get :(.

Fanfiction gets a lot more comments, no doubt. Especially with bands that are popular here.
I used to write slash My Chemical Romance that are still here ones but now I write anime and an original slash story :)

Yeah, I have a story like that :/ It has 100+ readers and only like...17 comments XD Which is really weird, because the same story got a LOT of attention on FF.net...

It also depends on how often you update. When I started working on Music Girl for NaNoWriMo, my counts for everything shot way up really fast. And now that I'm not updating as fast anymore, comments/readers are kinda slow as well :/

For me, personally, I've noticed I tend to get more comments if it's a chaptered story. Even if there's only one chapter posted.

Oh, I know how you feel. My stories get a few comments, but there are so many more readers, and suscribers.
