Heterosexual Relationships in Stories

In original fiction, specifically published books, I prefer het. I guess it's because I'm girl and those falling in love stories naturally amuse me. I enjoy ones that make a point, though, not just silly notions of girlish romance. Although I prefer het, I consider slash pairings in original fiction very respectable. I wouldn't mind reading it in a book.

In fanfiction, I like both. But the pairing doesn't matter. It's just having fun, for me. It's how it's written that makes me want to read. I'll read what's worth reading.There are very, very few writers that I follow here. I'm picky about what I read and who it's written by.

It wasn't until I got on mibba that I got into reading slash. I'd read slash before mibba, but not an abundance of it. I used to prefer slash, but I got sick of it. So I'll probably end up going back to het once I get sick of slash.

Definitley het. I just can't get into any slash stories.

I personally prefer het. I write it, and it's usualy all I read. I don't think I'm subscribed to any slash stories at all.
Slash is okay, but it has to be really well written for me to get into it. It just doesn't appeal to me all that much.

I don't think that straight girls like reading sex scenes that include a girl and a boy. But that's only with like the one's that have sex scenes, obviously.

Um, I do. lol That's the only kind of 'sex scene' I will read. It's the only kind I write, too.

I don't see why straight girls think it's gross to read it. It doesn't make since. Do you think sex is gross? How're you going to explain that one to your husband? :file: Not to mention, slash sex is still sex.

My opinion exactly, I prefer het over slash though I will read a good slash, especially if there is no sex. I don't liek slash sex really, I just don't. I don't think it's discusting or anything like that I just can't really get into it.

I read slash a bit more than i read het.
I think that for me, a lot of the best writers I've found on here only write slash.
There are a few exceptions though. I'll read het if its by selective writers but i hardly venture out to sift through the mass of messy het.

As long as the sex isn't disgustingly graphic (whih is a common flaw on here) and it's not a fan fiction, I don't mind either.

Well, there is a difference, but neither of the differences would hinder me from liking one or the other more or less.
As long as it's well written, I'm fine with it.

What I've noticed, though, is slash stories tend to be raunchy and sex-obsessed and het stories tend to be vomitaciously sappy.
It's annoying.

I'm not sexist, but I tend to get annoyed by female characters; there's just something about females written down on paper that I can't seem to warm up to.
They tend to all blur into one kind of character for me because, generally when I read original characters, I can never perfectly distinguish their features or stuff like that.

I rarely read stories in general - real life and on here - involving relationships. I don't really like romance stories. When a relationship does come up though, I perfer het. I don't like reading slash. I don't care if side characters are involved in slash, but the main characters have to be involved in het for me to love a story.

It's funny, because I don't really mind het--not my favorite, but still-- when I read it in a regular published book, but I can't stand it if it's on mibba. I'm not sure why, I guess it's just because amateur, online writers aren't able to really pull it off realistically in a story. Most female characters, I find hard to connect with, anyway; even if they technically aren't mary-sues, they all seem like that in my mind, subconsciously. In general, I prefer slash, because het just seems a little bland. And I don't read much romance stories outside of mibba anyway, so either way, I don't have to deal with it much.

Honestly, het seems just... regular. I'm a born again Christian and I read slash. I've tried my hand at writing it, too, and a Frerard is currently under the works. I tried doing het, too, and, I don't know...

I just prefer slash.

I don't mind het. If the fic was well-written and well-plotted, I would read it and subscribe, but a lot of het fics that I found are seriously badly written. But I have nothing against het. Or slash, for that matter.

I think it's the female characters for me as well. If I ever write with a female character in one of my stories, I rarely add much detail about them, because they don't usually play a big part.
I find it much easier to read about two guys, than a girl and a guy.

Although, I don't have a problem with it, I just can't read it. :XD

Sorry to...um...critisize your post again. But why, again, is sex a flaw?

Sometimes, sex, if written right, can signify how deep a relationship can be, or how diverse or complex it can be...

I definately read more het. I don't have anything against slash, I just like to put myself in the character's shoes and since I'm straight, I find it easier to relate to het. I also only write het stories because I need to make the writing feel real. I've started reading a couple slash fanfics, but I've either lost them or left the site. for me, het is better.

I used to be waaaay into slash but I've given het some slack now as I got fed up of the amount of really crap slashes I found, It put me off for a while and now I only read a select few.

Also as Cheye said before me, I like to put myself in the character's shoes and as I'm striaght as well it's kinda easier with het.

I've also found that I can't really read het sex, no matter the pairing. My favourite couple from Harry Potter is Lupin and Tonks, but I couldn't get through a sex scene that my friend linked me to. It was just awkward to read for me.

I think slash is overdone. It's like everyone in the entire story world is doing it, and a lot of times it's based on bands that I don't like (because it always seems to be based on bands too.)
I like slash if it's well written and is more than just complete smut. It's the same with het though.

I guess I just value good writing no matter the pairing. I'm also not a huge fan of fanfiction and that sort of ruins slash for me because it always seems to be based on bands. I value origional fiction much much more.
