Where Do You Work Now or Where Have You Worked in the Past?

I'm a server/host at a pretty nice, local Italian restaurant. I make $2.13 an hour serving and $5.00 and hour hosting, but I get tips on both. When I serve I usually make around $50-70 a night and $15+ on lunches, and when I host I usually make around $1o and up in tips. Hosting tips fluctuate a lot since they're based on a percentage of the server's total sales of the shift. At my old serving job I made $3.25 an hour waitressing and $7.25 running, which is basically the same as bussing. Made at least $60 a night there, and often made over $100.

My job now though is kinda meh. I seriously love serving - it's easy, and you can make a ton of money only working 4 hours a day - but the way the restaurant I work at now is kinda messed up. When I do doubles serving, I won't actually get paid the serving wage because I make too much in tips. And, since I double as a host and server, the difference in the pay scale plus my tips has screwed my actual paycheck up on several occasions. Another shitty part of working in a nice restaurant is that it's expensive. I have people ask me a lot if I've tried a dish, what's in it, blah blah blah, and then I feel incredibly stupid when I can't explain it to them, because even with my discount it's usually too expensive for me to get food there. Another thing many customers don't realize is that almost all my wages are based on their tips. Personally, I don't think anything under $7 in a high end restaurant is acceptable, but everyone tips based on different aspects.

The biggest - and WORST - part of serving, as hinted at before, is that some people are just complete jackasses. I can tell instantly by how a guest treats and talks to me if they've ever served or worked in a restaurant before. The people that are understanding and patient when it's hectic obviously have; the people that expect to be treated like they're the only people in the restaurant and want me to be at their table virtually every second have not. It's not often that I get someone that's exceptionally rude, but when it happens they are incredibly bad and mean about it. Some people do it because they want an excuse to not tip well, but when I sense a table is going to do that, I'm honestly just rude right back to them. And then there's some people that are just downright rude for no reason. So, yeah. It's generally good money, and the people I work with are awesome and I love them all to death, but because of how it's run and some of the idiot customers I get, it can really suck sometimes.

I work at a hair salon on weekends. I answer phones, make appointments, sweep, etc.
I do it for $5/hr since the person that owns the salon is a family friend. Once I go to cosmetology school & graduate, I'll be working there as a hairdresser.
I also do work for the local shows, like for bands and shit. I'll work admission, set up lights, sell merch, etc. The wage varies for that because I'm friends with most of the guys in bands.

I'm working at a small cafe that I've worked at for the past four summers.
I started when I was 15, my brother worked there and managed to get me a part-time job there. Because it's a seasonal cafe, I always work there during the summer. It was my first job and I've always stuck with it.

@ passive- Forgive me, but...that sounds rather shitty. I mean, the wages thing. You make good money but personally I'd be fed up after a bit.

I work at a local pet shop. I've worked there for about a year now. It's a really interesting (albeit sometimes stressful) job. Most of the time, I just tend to customers and clean up puppy crap and stuff like that. In the mornings when I open i clean all the enclosures and stuff too. It's not so bad once you're used to the smell.

But since we're located in the mall, we get all sorts of obnoxious people coming in, particularly teeny boppers that like to be annoying just for the sport of it. And eventually, handling dog shit gets a little tiring. So it does have its pitfalls.

I feel like anyone who willing touches feces deserves to earn more than minimum wage.

I work at Arby's. Not very glamerous or fun. I make 9.25 an hour which is just enough to pay rent and electric at my apartment but almost not enough to feed myself. I deal with a lot of older stuck up people [I work in one about 15 miles from my house in one of the richer neighborhoods] who bitch over the .05 increase on their favorite sandwich and how its not fair we charge state sales tax when the grocery store doesn't. I get asked a lot of dumb questions like "Do you guys have roast beef?" -facepalm- and the occasional "Well, I want a hamburger. Why don't you guys have hamburgers?!"

    -long sigh-

I always have to remind myself "Be grateful, you have a job. You could be homeless and hungry or worse."

I'm a server at Joes Crab Shack; and let me tell you, it's a great job! Mainly because of the people I work with. We are a huge family, we all hang out together outside of work and I haven't had better friends in my entire life.
Now, the job itself? Not too shabby. It's pretty easy, once you get good at it. It's a relatively relaxed environment, not at all stuck up or any of that. We sing and dance and goof off and get to know the clientele, if they're playful and outgoing.
I make pretty good money, I average $70-$80 on a weeknight and $100+ on the weekends, that is before "tipping out" the bartenders and hosts. Bartenders get 1% of my sales and hosts get 2% (not individually, but collectively)
The dishes were hard to memorize, because it all looks the same, and the drinks are still tripping me up; but I love my job :)
I hate the management, but I love my job, and my friends that became a family.

The worst part is the nasty people that come in, spend $200 and give me $2 or less in tips. And those tables are generally needy and are never please, not to mention cheap. I technically LOSE money on those tables. People don't understand that as a sever, I make $2.65 an hour, which I don't even get because of all the taxes I pay. I have to survive off what I make in tips at the end of the night.
Some people will never understand =____=

We are famous for doing birthday celebrations and embarassing people. Which I love :) also we dance. All. The. Time.
    It's fun.
But yeah. I love my job. :)

I work as a waitress at a small family owned restaurant during the weekends. It's a fun job because there are so many regulars there. It's quite demanding at times but it's definitely enjoyable.

I work at DePauw. It's a pretty nice job, and it's easy money, as well. I mean, there are some hardships, such as rude customers and things like that. I get paid $7.50 an hour, so I get paid twenty-five cents above minimum wage, it's pretty nice.
This is my first official job. I used to take care of animals and babysit in the past, though. I got paid five dollars every day for it.

I work as a dispatcher at a trucking company. It's nice until a load falls through or a driver does something to piss off Bossman. I don't really have any complaints about it.
