Okay..so, I'm a vegetarian, most of the time. I'll only make an exception if it has the Bord Bia symbol. My father's a vet and owns a small farm, and I find that it's a very one sided argument you're having if you don't acknowledge the fact that a lot of farms do raise animals in very good conditions.

In America, do you not have some kind of certificate you can get that shows the animals were raised in good conditions? A little like a Fair Trade symbol, so to speak. In Ireland, we have the Bord Bía symbol, and this is basically a symbol that means the animals were raised in a good environment. A lot of people say "But how can you be sure?", but given my father's occupation, I know for a fact that there are regular inspections. In fact, even before you get your Bord Bía cert, you have to pass all these EU regulations, and trust me, they're very strict. But like I said, this is Europe, and things could be totally different in the States - I have no idea.

But ultimately, I feel that vegetarianism is a personal choice. Just like with religion, you can argue it down to the last without ever agreeing. Each argument has it's pro's, and each has it's con's, and at the end of the day, you just have to go with your gut instinct.

"It's not a 'debate' you're having, it's a 'either my opinion is right or I don't care about anyone else's' "

It's your type of meat-eaters that makes us vegetarians annoyed. I highly doubt you even care about my opinion at all, while I am taking everyone's opinion into consideration. I mean EVERYONE'S.

Also, the only way you have to take vitamins is if you go vegan. There is B12 in other animal products like dairy and eggs. =)

*I meant to say that all animal products contain B12.

Also, you only need a teeny, tiny bit of B12, so even if it is animal derived, it's better than giving up vegetarianism.

Actually, if you buy meat, you increase the supply and demand for it, so even more animals will have to be raised in horrible conditions and killed at slaughterhouses that are sometimes inhumane.

There are also many cereals and soymilks that are fortified with B12. Even if the B12 is from animal products, it's better than doing nothing at all.

@Nick Cave

Actually, all milk products contain B12, so you didn't have to give up not eating meat. You could've just eaten eggs and dairy. It's better than nothing.

Also, there are tablets you could take that are supposed to be vegan. I'll get the link in a sec.

I was vegetarian for about 5 years, and vegan for 2. I had to give up on it because of health reasons. I wasn't getting enough vitamin B-12. Which is apparently only found in red meats. It was either start eating meat again, or have monthly injections, which are actually made using animal byproducts anyway. There are some things from meat which we need which can't be found elsewhere. Before someone says you should take vitamin supplements instead... Surprise! The B-12 in those is sourced from animals as well! So yes, there are things in meat that we need to function properly that we can't get without using at least the byproducts of animals.

Yes, animal abuse is wrong.
But killing animals for food IS NOT.
That's why they were put on the earth. To eat.

In all honesty, I don't really care that animals are being killed for food or other products. Of course it's sad, but I still don't really care.

well, Im a vegetarian and I do think the way the animals are treated nd totured before they're slaughtered is horrible. thats wat basically made me become a vegetarian. i belive, we can be just as healthy without killing an animal, bt that's just me.

@pepperjack_cat I thought our ancestors ate more meat, that's why they had sharper teeth.
Anyways, I didn't really read this.
But I'm still going to eat meat. I don't really care. I wouldn't consider it a "mass murder", simply just because I wouldn't.

I think the problem over all is that our country over all just eats too much meat, yes our ancestors ate meat but not nearly as much as we do today.

Oh and -->
Actually, we do not need it. We can get the vitamins we get from meat from other sources, like cereal, nuts, etc. (see my earliest comments.
Yes, if we were planning to live like rabbits for the rest of eternity ¬_¬
Or on pills, what vegetarians like YOU don't seem to understand is the fact that meat provides everything you need without having to spend ages eating like a mouse
I swear, there are vegetarians in this world I don't mind, like my friends, and then there are you guys which just make me want to eat meat more

Jeez I've only read the first page of comments and already I'm annoyed with you Venganza, it sure as hell seems like you're not paying any damn attention to anyone else's opinion but you're making sure as hell that other people will pay attention to yours
Unfortunately, this kind of attitude just makes us meat eaters want to eat more meat just to spite you
It's not a 'debate' you're having, it's a 'either my opinion is right or I don't care about anyone else's'
We get it, you like animals, you're probably vegan, you're against it ¬_¬ We got that four pages ago

alright alright
geez
okay, yes. you can survive without eating meat but we don't have to
its their decision whether they wanna eat meat or not
but either way, there are enough cows to go around, honey

people have been eating meat for a hella long time
if we haven't ran out by now, im sure we won't anytime soon

and just cause you eat meat doesn't mean you hate animals
you can be one of the biggest animal eaters out there and still eat meat
