Seventh grade was honestly the best year of my life. Up until then, I had nowhere to show my guitar skills and shut people up by speaking through music. But suddenly, I was caught in a whirlwind of best friends, and we wowed the talent show at our junior high as Plaster Caster – the best band in our humble little town of Claymore, Florida.

And I’m sure we would’ve gone even further that next year…if the navy didn’t transfer me and my dad all the way back across the country, uprooting us back to my hometown of Santa Monica, California.

Yeah, it’s always nice to be home, I guess. I probably should’ve felt guilty for letting Claymore grow on me so much in such a short time, but…after staring at the sun for a year, Santa Monica felt like a dull bulb that had been burning weakly for twelve years.

Things couldn’t change that much in just one year, could they?
