Storm Before The Calm
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Penguins fans, Olivia Dean shared her heart with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes. Her parents occasionally took her to a couple of their games, when they could drive out to Greensboro. Then, in July 1997, Peter Karmanos announced that they would move to Research Triangle Park, the Dean's home town.
When Olive was five when she was given her first Hurricanes sweater. It was the captain, Kevin Dineen's, and she loved it so much. Olive wore it to school about once a week and was very knowledgeable of the sport, even at a young age. Every year, her dad would buy her a new one, for the player of her choosing. He waited until the second month of the season to buy Olive one, though, so she could have time to watch the players and make her decision. This year, for the 2010-2011 season, she chose Jeff Skinner.
