Eight years. It's been eight years since he’d seen sunlight; eight years since he smiled. It had been eight years since he had a breath; a breath of great relief, of great happiness, a breath of freedom. It had been eight years; years of complete hell.

He lived among others, but even in a crowded room he felt alone. They were all like him, and yet nothing like him at all. Their very presence was welcoming and imprisoning at the same time.
