Sequel: She Almost Left Me ›
The One That Got Away
This is a story about a boy and a girl.
But it wouldn't be a good story without it's complications.
The girl is a nobody; the boy is a boyband sensation.
The story is set in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
It is late 1998, probably around the October, November months.
Let me set the scene for you here and now:-
Light, powery snow in a thin blanket on the ground.
A little girl still in her school uniform, watching The Wiggles happily.
Two pre-teen boys, one curly haired and one not so curly haired, but both blue-eyed.
A big brother and a best friend, both meaning everything to this little girl.
A roaring fire the only light in the whole house.
Hot cocoa with marshmallows, and a toasty little blanket surrounding the three.
This is how it starts. It is how the two children grow up to fall in love and fall apart.
You all know my stories are rose-tinted, but harsh on the tear glands.
It shall be a tragedy with its own hint of love and friendship.
A nice recipe for disaster.
I wrote this story because Danny Jones and McFly are fantastic and mean a lot to me. There is a Frankie because I needed a simple connection between the two main characters that wasn't a cliché of sorts, like meeting backstage or meeting in a bar.
Also, Frankie is the big brother I coulda but never had. He would have been the coolest big brother ever, and would have looked after us three through school, like he does Lauren in the story. So I've idealized him in this story a little bit.
Well, this only took me a half hour to write.
You better enjoy.
